Fashion Over 50: How to Choose White Jean’s
Happy Memorial Day ladies! This weekend is the official start of summer and when we in the USA honor the men and women who died in service to our country. It’s also when the out of dateĀ Ā fashion rules give us permission to begin wearing white! Since I’m not one to believe or follow fashion rulesĀ so I wear white year round… including whiteĀ jeans.
A flattering white jean may seem like an oxymoron and feel elusive but I know they exist. Today I’m sharing some tips forĀ choosing and styling white jeans that you can feel confident wearing.
Fabric
Choose heavy denim that is thicker and opaque. Panties showing through is not a flattering look so always remember to wear lingerie in your skin tone. White lingerie shows through white and pale fabrics.
Fit
AvoidĀ overly tight legs whichĀ give a sausageĀ casing effect. What works for dark jeans isn’t always as flattering in white. Skinny white jeans can be slimming but look for ones that hug rather than strangle. Straight and flare styles are often more flattering in a white jean
Rise
As with any jean, the rise can make or break the fit of white jeans. The higher the rise the less likely you’ll struggle with any muffin top action.
Style
The lower theĀ back pockets the lower your backside will appear. Back pockets that are set far apart will make your backside appear wider. If you don’t tuck your tops in choose jeans without extra belt loops and pockets that can look lumpy under your tops. Pull-on styles are great options.
-and finally-
Shoes
Wear your white jeans with a nude, pale neutral, white or metallic shoe. Even a flat shoe in these colors will help elongate the look of your leg for a slimming effect. A dark shoe slams the eye to a halt at your ankle and makes you look shorter than you are. It also draws the eye to your shoe and makes it the focal point of your look.
Do you wear white jeans?
Thanks for reading ladies and have a great day!
I struggled with white jeans for years but as I changed my life style and lost weight I tried some and now have several that I wear often. My favorites that I reach for all the time are from Dress Barn and the Belle by Kim Gravel line from QVC. Which are really a nice weight knit that looks like denim. I love the wide waistband and even on a log driving trip they are not all stretched out when I get there!
I now am an unstoppable collector of white jeans and will probably try some brands that were mentioned above.
I need to check out those Kim Gravel pants. Comfort is critical. Thanks for the suggestion.
I love my white jeans, two pair, from Talbots. They are straight leg, ankle, and the ruse is perfect for my body type.
However, I don’t wear them year round. Here in the northeast I’ve never thought of keeping them around during our cold, stormy winters. I guess I could! (I do wear a pair of Winter white dressier pant, slight flair) near the holidays…Why not my jeans? No clear answer……
I have a āthingā about white pants. For me, they are an accident just waiting to happen. Every time I wear white pants or a white skirt I wind up with spaghetti dumped in my lap or baby poop shooting out the side of the diaper to land on my lap. Needless to say, I donāt tempt fate with white pants anymore. Iāll stick with my dark jeans or go to linen pants.
Lol. I hear you Phyliss! We all have an issue with something.
Jennifer, what size did you buy in that lovely Periwinkle blouse from Purple Poppy? That is my favorite color! A
Medium might work for me, but I fear a ‘pulled’ look at the buttons, if a bit too tight in the bust. At one time, I think you wrote that a ‘new customer’ who mentions having seen an item on your Blog, might receive a small discount? Well, thanks and I just have to have that blouse! Looks fantastic with your white jeans, too!
Laid flat, my medium measures 40ā across the bust. I measure 36ā so itās a nice roomy fit but not sloppy because of the pleats. The discount code is POPPY at checkout. I hope she still has some for you. I wear mine a lot!
Wow, You look amazing in that periwinkle blue top. I know I am off topic but that is lovely on you. paatval
Thanks Pat. Compliments are never off topic.
Oh your post is so timely, Jennifer, as I just purchased a pair of white jeans this weekend. They are from Dress Barn and are ankle length. Because I have short legs, ankle length is a more flattering length for me than capris. The jeans I purchased are just the right weight in fabric and fit without being too tight! I know they will be worn often as I can dress them up or wear them for more casual occasion.
Enjoyed this post and your blog!!!
They sound perfect! Thanks for being here Beth
I am not n the market for white jeans but your suggestions for how different features can spell win or fail are right on for those.okingto buy. My two favorites are from Kut from the Kloth (both Macys and Nordstrom carry the brand) in the Catherine style. it’s more of a boyfriend cut but very flattering on. Y other fave is. Jag jogging bought last summer.
And a Happy holiday everyone from MN,where vulinteers helped place flags on every grave in Fort Snelling National cemetery. Very proud of our state to see that effort and all the donations that made this possible. Honor our vets for the sacrifices they have made for all of us.
Loving my white jeans from Maurice’s for casual wear and crops and ankle pants from Chicho’s. Bought everything when they had a 40% off sale very early in the season. So I am good. Love wearing white pants and I am 69 going to 70 in August.
Smart lady! Itās always a good idea to stock up when things are on sale. Have a great birthday. Mine is in August too
Love the white jeans that you show from Soft Surroundings … are they true to size? You look so fresh!!
They are true to size and do shrink a bit in length when you put them in the dryer.
I love white jeans because the fabric is heavy enough that undies don’t show through and because they don’t have that Mrs. Thurston Howell III look of a retiree on a cruise, which white polyester pants can do even to someone relatively young and chic.
My favorite jeans provider is Loft, which has two cuts: Marisa for women with small hips and Julie for women with small waists.
Youāre so right about the Mrs Thurston Howell look! And how funny they we call her that. Iām heading back to Loft this week and will try on the Marissa. My waist is certainly not small these days;)
Iām on the look out for white jeans that flatter. Iāll keep these points in mind when shopping.
I love your top. It is very flattering. There is not much info on the site. Would I be able to find a store near Seattle? We boat down that way in September. I would order online but unsure of size.
Your look is perfect! Casual, yet comfortable! I am a huge fan of SLIMSATION pants. They are quite reasonably priced for the superior quality. Yes, I bought them in white! ????????
I will have to try them. They sounds great!
I wore a pair of white jeans EVER this weekend! Thank you for the nudge in trying something new. Liking my Levi’s and will need to wear a few times, getting used to them (just like red lipstick). Good idea about no dark shoes.
Baby steps are the best way to branch into a new look. So true about the red lipstick Sophia!
I adore white jeans! My favorite also come from J Jill, as do a lot of my classic pieces. I also have an ankle jean from Chicoās that are nice. I think white looks so fresh in the summer. Happy Memorial Day to all, and to those who have served, thank you, thank you, thank you!
I love my Chicoās because the fabric is thick and the fit is easy.
I don’t normally wear white jeans but I just love both of these outfits! I might have to rethink my aversion to white.
Worth a try Cindy!
I have two favorites …one is a slimsation white pant, and the other is the white Metro legging from Soft Surroundings which fits more like a pant. You are so right Jennifer…fit is everything and the sausage effective is a big problem!
I love my Metro leggings! Funny they donāt call them jeans because they are.
My new favorite white jeans are from Macy’s-JM collection pull on white jeans. They tick all the boxes-higher rise, smooth waist, but a fake fly front and pockets, heavy enough fabric, just the right leg width/length. I bought them in a petite so they would be ankle length on me and they worked great. Am tempted to go buy another pair. My other favorite “real” jeans are JJill-nice weight, length, and style.
Those pull-on jeans sound awesome. Iāll check them out next time Iām in Macyās. Do buy another pair if you love them!
