Dressing Up Double Denim
My casual lifestyle means I wear jeans, a lot. I like skinnies, straight, boot cut, and a wide leg but my new favorite is the trouser cut. They just have a classier vibe than other styles which makes them more versatile.
No matter the cut, the most important feature of a jean, is itās fit. If they don’t make you look good, keep looking until you find a pair that does.
For this look, I wore double denim. I started with a column of white, including earrings then topped it with a classic denim jacket in a soft color. The lenses of my sunglasses are the only nod to color and brighten the look.
They have slash pockets in front and welt pockets in the back which is dressier than standard patch pockets because they lay flat and don’t show unless you tuck your top in. The fabric is a cotton, polyester, Lyocell, and spandex blend which is super soft and more elegant feeling than other types of denim.Ā
When I think of denim I also think of denim jackets because they’re the perfect layer for days when I need a casual topper. They also have a cool vibe which is ageless. This is my fourth Talbots Classic Denim Jacket because it’s sort of perfect.
It has the same gorgeous fabric content as the trousers and gentle shaping through the torso so it’s not boxy. The Stone is a soft neutral gray which will pair with navy as easily as white and black.
I wear my white jeans year-round so will wear these trousers paired with a black sweater, black booties, and chunky silver jewelry this Fall. They’ll also look cute with a casual tweed blazer and flats.
Have you tried denim trousers?

Thanks for reading and have a great day.
A big thank you to Talbots for partnering on this post.
I love trouser denim and you styled it perfectly!! Will check out the pants!
I’m so glad that we can wear white year round, it gives a lot of versatility to our wardrobes. These trousers extends those selections even more!
Yes, this outfit is classic/fresh and just what I would love in my closet. Would you please share the sizes of trouser and jacket you are wearing? I especially love the gray of the jacket! And your styling vision! Thanks for your fashion inspirations!
The jacket is a medium in regular and the pants are an 8 petite. I have a long torso and shortish legs
Very flattering classic styles. Skinny leg pants have never worked for me except with boots and tunic. So glad nicely shaped pants are returning. This outfit is right up my alley. All pieces are timeless in style and I love the grey and white.
What a nice looking outfit. I have been looking for nice, well cut jeans so off to Talbots!
Love this look. Jennifer is your jacket petite? Sounds like you are wearing the pant in petite, right?
Thank you for this blog, putting yourself out there for us and investing the time and energy. Because of you I have been able to reduce my clothing by almost 1/2. Who knew I was so clueless? ?
The jacket is regular in M and the pants are petite. I have a long torso so this time I opted for the regular jacket and it fits well.
Love the trouser jean. The last pair I had was NYDJ from Nordstrom. Glad they are back. That outfit looks really great on you. I bet you will wear it often.
I will wear it a ton this fall.
Love your denim look!! Just bought a pair of denim trousers in London this past May. Have to wait to wear them until I visit family in Connecticut this fall. Here in central Florida the temps have been upwards in the low 100s just awful!! Wondering if you are in Florida also with the palm trees in the background. Then I saw the pics with the mountains so possibly California? Anyway hope your weather gets cooler and we can experience some fall weather and fashions
I am in California. They should be perfect for Connecticut in the fall. It’s so beautiful there that time of year.
Do love how you put the pieces together and express you are so fortunate to be able to wear ‘white’ jeans all year around as here in Canada they are normally just worn in the summer season. Also, I agree ‘ the fit’ is important (yours look marvelous on you BTW) which brings me to the following tip; if possible try more than one pair on as due to their industrial manufacturing the same size and style of jean can ‘fit’ differently. Reason basically being; when cutting the fabric it is generally stacked in numerous layers so those on the top will be smaller than those on the bottom however seam allowances (their stitching lines) are not altered which in turn results in a ‘fit’ variance.

A non-boxy denim jacket — hooray!
Thanks for the tip Brenda!
I have eagerly been waiting for the return of trouser jeans, but Talbots doesnāt offer these in a tall inseam ?. How deep is the hem?
The hem is about an inch and a quarter so there is fabric to let a little bit down.
You look fabulous in this outfit! The pants are especially perfect on you; great choice!
Thanks Karen. I went ahead and bought them in blue too:)
This look excites me – and not much in fashion has lately! The styles are fresh and current, have flattering shapes and look sharp. Glad to hear they are also comfortable. I haven’t seen much in that stone colour either. I hope I can find these in Canada.
Ditto x 1000. Talk about flattering! Itās amazing the way low rise jeans and pants have just evaporated from the planet, small burgs or big cities. I canāt wait to get to Talbot.
I was so glad to see the end of low rise jeans! It took a while but now theyāre a rarity in the stores. Trends do become fashion direction if theyāre popular enough.
The Stone is a lovely color. There are Talbots all across Canada so you could check them online, if theyāre not in your town.
