Styling Petite Crop Jeans

If you’ve read me for any length of time you know that jeans are a major staple in my wardrobe. I wear them in every color, wash, and shape, on everything but the steamiest days during the summer. And even then, if I’m planning to stay in the AC, I’ll toss on a pair of jeans.

The shape of jeans changes pretty often and while I do have my favorite, I like to experiment with new styles to keep my look current. I’ve avoided cropped pants and jeans for years because I’m only 5’4″, but this season I gave them a try.

I found these jeans while shopping with my daughter. I love how over 50 fashion blogger Jennifer Cobbolly wearing rose colored shirt and blue jeans

They end at a spot where my leg indents which is one of the most flattering lengths for your pants. Any shorter would be where my calf widens which would make my legs look thicker.fashion blogger Jennifer Connolly wearing pink Talbots shirt and crop jeans

How Long Should Your Pants Be?

I’m wearing them with this super-soft Tencel shirt which is on major sale. I tucked it in to give my legs the longest line possible. Rather than a belt, I decided to fold an extra-large scarf on the diagonal and thread it through the belt loops.

I love the elegant look of scarves but they’re usually too hot to wear around my neck this time of year. Tying small ones around the handle of my handbag or a large one around my waist means I can still enjoy them and stay cool. In hindsight, I would probably tie the scarf one belt loop over so it hung down the side of my leg.

You look so great today, always a lovely smile too.

Love the colour of the shirt.

I find I donā€™t wear blue jeans so much any more, especially for going out.

Not going out much these days!

  2. I don’t see a Petite length in the link you shared. Have they sold out? What is the inseam on the Petite? I am 5’3″, so this would probably be the size I’d need, too. Thank you.

  3. What a cute outfit! The color of the tencel shirt looks great on you!

  4. Cute cute cute! I love the crop style, especially for summer. Your scarf as belt is perfect too!

  5. I love cropped pants for this time of year. Not having fabric around your ankles is cooler. In the colder months, they show off your booties. So happy to see you styling and loving them!

  6. I loved the Tencel blush shirt so much that before reading the rest of your blog, I ordered it!!! Ha – I just hope it will look as good in me as it does on you!!!

Those look great on you, Jennifer! I’ve been wary of wider leg styles but you’ve convinced me to give them a try.

  8. Ooh..love this look on you! I am a big fan of all the elements you’ve pulled together here, but I am hesitant about tucking in a shirt, because I am high waisted. As I continue to shrink with age, it appears that my waist is creeping higher and higher – very odd. I think for my body type, I would probably pair this top with slim ankle jeans, and leave it untucked. I would drape the scarf loosely around my neck. In any case, this outfit would have to patiently wait for cooler weather.

I love my wide-leg crop jeans, too, and I’m only 5’1″. ! Looks so cute with the scarf. I will be copying you, Jennifer. Thanks so much for participating with us!

Jennifer you always look pulled together and look nice in the cropped jeans. I am just a little taller at 5’6″ but cropped pants make me look dumpy. I have worn Capri pants that stop somewhere between just below my knee to almost 4 inches below that. I pair them with tunic tops. I stopped wearing denim jeans several years ago because I do not find them comfortable. I like ponti knit slacks or a heavy weight cotton/spandex knit. They are soft and comfortable but always stay wrinkle free. They are not legging tight but just slightly skim the body.

    1. Iā€™m a huge fan of ponte knit pants too. Theyā€™re so comfortable while still looking polished.

  11. Annie Diamond says:

Jennifer! Love your look today! Such a creative way to incorporate a scarf and really takes the look of jeans and sandals to a whole new level! Interesting to note the detail on looking for the right length of a cropped jean!

    1. Thanks Annie! I love the artisan details in your jeans. So pretty.

  12. You did it! It’s tricky, but it can be done. I am getting quite fond of this type of jeans, which means they will be discontinued soon.

    1. I love the fabric in these shirts. They never need ironing and the colors in the ones I have are softer. I have the blue and pink and wear them constantly. I was 5’4″ most of my life but now I’m 5″2and 1/2. I lost height over the years. I still can’t wear Petites because my arms and legs are still regular and I like more rise in my pants. Hate it when the crotch is grabby.

      1. I can seldom wear petite pants but these ones work!

  13. Linda Simpson says:

This looks great on you, Jennifer! And I see I’m not the only who uses scarves as belts. I’ve been doing that for around 30 years, and I never tire of the look or the compliments I receive.

    1. Thank you. Itā€™s such a simple way to wear scarves and so fun.

      1. Linda Simpson says:

Especially in this summer heat and humidity!

  14. Love your look! Jennifer, I have a very full tummy – and never wear my tops tucked in … does this mean ā€˜fullerā€™ bottoms are out for me?

    1. You can wear them! Just wear a top that stops high hip length so you have plenty of leg showing.

  15. Love the cropped jeans on you. You have such a great way of dressing up your look. I’m only 5’1 so not sure how those would work for me but I wear cropped skinny jeans all the time.

  16. This is hands down my favorite look on you! You look current and fresh. Good job.

  17. Hi Jennifer

Great idea addressing Petite Jeans. I really like the wide leg crops. For my physique they seem to be fairly flattering. Love the scarf belt as well. Great minds think alike!!

  18. I have not tried the wide leg in the cropped length. I like the slim leg in that length. I have much larger hips than you and somehow feel the full length in a wide leg is much more flattering on me. In the heat we have been having it is more linen pants and skirts instead of jeans right now and look forward to getting back into them.

  19. Linda Pacheco says:

Im only about 5’5″ and i love crops..always tuck my shirt in, sandals, and abelt or cute scarf..i like a fitted red/white stripe shirt with them!li

  20. Love those jeans on you. I bought a similar pair and wore them a lot this Spring…until I saw a picture of myself in them. For some reason they made me look square…in shape. I donā€™t know why. They still make me feel happy so if it ever cools off, I think I will wear in the Fall!

    1. If they make you happy, wear them! Maybe play with the proportion of your shoes and top to see how you prefer them.

  21. Oh my goodness what an amazing look!!! The blouse and scarf are sooooo good. I love this color on you. It is obvious in this picture that you really feel great in this outfit. I agree with you on getting the length of jeans in this style to be right for the most flattering look and you nailed it. I am definitely going to steal this inspiration…. šŸ˜‰

  22. I checked the other bloggers and found nothing about styling jeans? What’s up?

  23. Those are really great earrings and I like the crop style jeans on you. I hardly ever wear jeans, but I do have a wide leg crop style in white denim. Unfortunately, since our summer has been so hot, I’ve only worn them twice.
