Monday Musings- Precious Memories and Improving Energy Flow

Happy Monday ladies. As expected, our temps hit 102 yesterday so rather than stay home, we went for a Sunday drive. These drives are becoming a bit of a tradition for us these days because they help break up the monotony of the week. This week we drove north to the woods near Nevada City but it was an oppressive 92 so we hightailed it back to our car. Next week maybe we should head to the coast??fashion blogger Jennifer Connolly wearing white and beige linin in a forest setting

Here are a few things on my mind this week-

A New Logo

A Well Styled Life hasn’t had a logo since it’s inception in 2012…but not for lack of trying. I won a free logo design from two different companies and as they say, you get what you pay for. They came up with cheesy and dumb logos. A few years later I hired two highly competent branding companies but none of their designs resonated with me so I didn’t use them. Last week, I finally bit the bullet and tried again.

This time I used a company that allowed many designers to submit their ideas in a timed competition. The longer the process went on, the clearer my vision became. My daughter and I bounced ideas off each other until we finally decided on the fonts…but we knew it needed something else. It needed an image or medallion. I wracked my brain until inspiration hit. I sent all the designers a picture of the above earring which I inherited from my mother. It was one of her favorites and is now a favorite of mine. She purchased these over 45 years ago on our first trip to Ireland. Ā I sharednew logo for A Well Styled Life

I wasn’t sure what they would do with this image but when I saw it incorporated into my logo I knew it was right. The other thing I simply love about this logo is that the contest was won by an untrained, stay at home mom who supplements her family’s income by designing. Bravo Nicole, you have done an amazing job!!

Wind Spinner

I’ve admired and been infatuated with wind spinners for years. Don’t ask me why I never bought one because I have no idea. We drove past a tiny shop selling wind spinners yesterday and I dragged my husband inside.

I wanted the largest and most expensive one they had but in the end, I purchased the one that matched my mask:) When I got home I discovered the exact one I bought is $5 dollars cheaper on Amazon.…but hey, I’m doing my part to support small businesses!

Wind spinners are thought to move the chi around which improves energy flow. Several of my neighbors have multiples in their yards which looks so cool. Seeing them spin makes me happy and anything that improves the energy around us is positive in my book!

Here are some other amazing ones I have in my cart, but I need to weed them down to just a few.

Have a great week and remember to take enough effort with your appearance that you feel confident.

When I saw the pic of you and your grandson, I noticed those beautiful earrings even before I read about your new logo. I love your new logo but even more, I love the story behind it. Stay safe and try to stay cool.

Love the logo too! And I adore your blog and your look, so classy. Lovely thing to do to go for a drive together, you have inspired me to do that. I made a reservation for our favorite winery restaurant in two weeks time, eating outside overlooking the vineyard -it is 3 hours away and my man thought that was a bit far-but now I will think of things along the way, little stops and local stores, making memories. We love listening to podcasts. So nice to see something new! Happy week!

  11. Your logo is perfect. I would love to have those earrings! How special that you inherited them from your mother and Iā€™m sure one day your beautiful daughter will be wearing them. I just love your blog and look forward to reading it each day.

  12. Steffich Fine Art makes beautiful, mesmerizing, sculptural wind spinners. I bought a large one several years ago and love it! Check out their web site! I think youā€™ll appreciate the beauty of these pieces.

  13. I love the new logo and the story of its creation.

  14. You need to head to the coast, Jennifer. That kind of heat saps all your energy. The refreshing ocean breeze will feel so good. I know you retired to your new location to be close to your much loved grandson but how do you function during the summer months?

Love your new Logo! Itā€™s simple and classy!

  15. Love the inspiration behind your logo. Makes it even more special. I like the cool looking outfit you were wearing for your drive. I’m always trying to avoid the sun! I’ve never bought a spinner but yours look beautiful. I’m always looking for chimes since my son bought me a special one. Stay cool! It’s really warm here in Spokane.

Love the new logo, Jennifer, and how you’ve incorporated something with personal meaning!

We have a large wind spinner in our front yard that we purchased from a small shop in the village where we go skiing most years. Just love it!

  17. Jennifer, I enjoy reading your blog and appreciate the effort you put into it. So I hope youā€™ll take this comment in the spirit in which itā€™s meant. Some polishing of punctuation and grammar would take your hard work to the next level and really help it shine. (For example: ā€œHappy Monday ladiesā€ should be ā€œHappy Monday, ladies.ā€ That comma is needed to define the introductory clause. Seeing it missing on so many of your posts always stops me for a moment, like a pebble in my shoe.) Grammarly is an app that can do this editing for you, finding the places that need punctuation, identifying subject-verb disagreement, etc. That app, or a pass by someone who is good at copy-editing, would make a huge difference. Itā€™s like picking out a great outfit and then making sure to iron out the wrinkles or tack up a loose hem. No offense intended; just would like to see your hard work better showcased. Thanks! (And, of course, donā€™t post this comment ā€” not trying to embarrass you.)

    1. I find your post offensive!

    2. Hi Virginia,
Because you have commented on my blog before, your comment goes out automatically before I see it.
I am not offended in the least. I actually use Grammarly but often ignore their suggestions because…well, because I can:) Iā€™m positive the punctuation in the last sentence is totally hosed;)
Iā€™ve never claimed to be a professional writer or editor so I wonā€™t let the odd typo or misuse of punctuation prevent me from making my point.
I hope youā€™re able to enjoy my content in spite of my grammar. šŸ™‚

    3. Virginia, Iā€™m sorry but you are being rude. Many of us see the grammatical errors but would never point them out. We are here for Jenniferā€™s advice on fashion and beauty, not for an English lesson.

  18. The new logo looks very chic which reflects the image I get from you. We just got a break in the overwhelming heat and humidity, so hope you get one as well. A drive to the coast sounds so lovely and refreshing so enjoy that. The wind spinner that you bought is really pretty, and yes, it may need company in the yard. Enjoy the enhanced chi.

    Perfect logo!!!!

  20. Your new logo is beautiful and perfect! I read your blog every morning and love it.

  21. The inspiration for your new logo really speaks to why you have such a beautiful, diverse group of followers on your blog. Just reading about the precious memories of your mother makes me pause and think of my own mother. We pass so quickly through these years and maybe donā€™t realize at the time how we are creating these same memories for others.
    Love the wind spinners too!
My husband and I have been going out for long drives also. Itā€™s nice to escape from our home and check out the countryside!

    1. I love the way you worded that Jan. When I think of what I would want to do with my time if I was told I had a year to live, it wouldnā€™t be to travel and see new things. I would want to be spending time with loved ones, creating lasting memories for them! Iā€™ll be gone so what Iā€™ve seen wonā€™t matter.

    the logo is perfect!
wind spinners, ive been wanting to try those. ive heard they will keep the ducks away. while i love the ugly neighborhood muskovies we have, they do unspeakable things to my patio. and bleach isnt as easy to pick off the grocery shelf as it use to be, sometimes that entire aisle looks scarily empty.

    1. I just hope it doesnā€™t keep my hummingbirds away:) Duck Poop is no fun.

  23. Susan Kelley says:

great logo and what an inspiration. It’s unique and personally you! Which is what a logo should be. Now put it on everything! Best,Hope your weather improves. We just dodged the hurricane bullet but they are predicting high temps this week!

    1. Glad you dodged that one, they are terrifying. Thanks Susan. I just need to figure out how to add it now:)

  24. I like your new logo!
Do not feel guilty about the $5 difference for your wind spinner. Amazon does not need your $$$ but small businesses do. (I try to order books from Barnes & Noble because I’m afraid they may not make it through the pandemic without more support)

    1. Holly, me too! I just actually went in person yesterday to my local Barnes & Nobel and bought four books!

      1. I canā€™t wait for mine to open again

    2. Iā€™d be so sad if Barnes and Noble didnā€™t survive. I already miss browsing in book stores. I could easily spend 4+ hours doing it.

    3. I love that all you ladies support your Barnes & Noble bookstores. I do, also! I like that Amazon is convenient for armchair ordering, but going to my bookstore is one of the joys in life for me. Spending time just browsing and perhaps finding a little gem that I might not have noticed otherwise. Love your new logo, Jennifer, and love your blog even more!

  25. Patti Shannon says:

I love the logo as well…and I adore windspinners!

  26. Love the logo and the new profile pic! I want to thank you for supporting small business. This has been a very difficult time for many of us and generally I’m all for saving money. But in the long run, that $5 isn’t a lot and it can mean so much more to a small business.

    1. I totally agree. We all need to support small business. Large companies have their place but I wouldnā€™t want them suppling everything. We need the variety and spirit that small businesses provide. Theyā€™re a delight to support.

  27. Love your new logo. I think it reflects you well!

  28. Beautiful earrings!
Check out Seanā€™s Celtic Design for beautiful handmade Irish jewelry. He can be reached on line but I have met him at many art fairs. Quality stuff and not so expensive. Great guy!

  29. Love the new logo – it’s elegant, modern and invokes a hint of old world with the special medallion.

  30. Love the logo and the spinner looks fun!
