My week at the Chopra event was amazing. I knew it would be.
The days started with yoga then meditation at 6AM. With breaks for lunch and dinner, it continued until 8:30 or 9 each night. I bailed on the yoga because my hip was so sore.
Our phones had to be off all day, which was an amazing unplug for me! Prior to this trip, I never left the house without it. What if my car broke down? What if… any number of things happened and I needed it? Now I’m not worrying about it. I’m curious to see if I maintain that attitude. I hope I do.
The truth is I’m having a hard time plugging back in. Which is a good thing. Reconnecting to social media after this long a break, is much harder than I thought.
When we got back to our room each night, my BFF and I would light a candle or incense and discuss what we’d learned during the day. It was fantastic! These are Chakra bracelets she bought for us. I still have a lot to process about the retreat.
The Lime you see beside the candle was my creation. I picked a fresh Lime on the way back to our room. She was pretty sure I’d be arrested 🙂 I cut it like a star to use as a natural room deodorizer. When you put two women in one room, sharing a bathroom, the perfumes and hair products can get pretty intense.
Right now, I’m scrambling to pack for a 2 week holiday for my husband’s 65th birthday. We didn’t buy trip insurance, so I’m hobbling through it.
It will involve lots of walking, which I’ll be doing slowly and carefully.
I’m still awaiting some definitive advice on my broken hip and torn cartilage. One Orthopedic Surgeon has turned me down flat, because I’m over 55! You just can’t make that kind of idiocy up!
What are you doing for your summer holidays?

You look vibrant in that picture, Jennifer. I hope the hip issue gets settled for you soon.
Welcome home. I’ll bet it was amazing!
Taking little trips close to home, enrolled in a writing/editing course, enjoying my new office, savoring evening walks in the garden. So glad you had a soulful experience at LaCosta and wishing you gentle movement with your hip.

I would love to take a writing and editing class. Editing is so important:)) Sometimes I just run on and on and …Gentle is the way to go!
So glad you had such an enjoyable and refreshing, rejuvenating retreat.
I am playing with my camera, determined to read the owners manual and tweaking my photo taking!
Happy Wednesday,
Jemma

I still haven’t read my camera directions. It’s all set to auto and I don’t even feel bad about that:)
Jennifer, you are one brave woman! Be very careful with your hip while walking and are you using a cane? Otherwise enjoy celebrating your husbands birthday!!
I know what you mean about it being a bit of a challenge getting back from a break from social media! It is so good to unplug and LIVE LIFE once in a while!!

It is fabulous to unplug. I’ve tried the cane, but it wrenches my chest muscles on that side. I’m probably not doing it right.

Oh I think that Chopra event sounds heavenly. I’m experiencing some of what you described and I only took a kind of staycation last week. No camp for the nine-year-old and she and I did a version of MomCamp.
After seven days largely unplugged being present living off-line… I, too, and finding it hard to plug back in.

I think I’ll be plugging in differently. Not the frantic busyness that sucks the time out of my day!I love the idea of Mom Camp:)
OMG I would LOVE to do a weekend like you did. Wish I could afford it. Someday soon. Thanks for sharing this, Jennifer. I loved reading about it, living vicariously through you. Enjoy your vacation! How exciting.
Hello Jennifer,
Your retreat sounds very interesting and I like that you and your friend reviewed all you learned each evening.
Wishing you a joyful trip and good luck with your hip. Take care

Hi Jen,
I find myself smiling to think of you staying still long enough to meditate. I don’t know you very well but you seem to have tons of energy, both physical and mental activity. Was it difficult to gear down at first? that is the thing I have found about meditation. It is so hard to stop the everyday whiny thoughts from creeping in. Anyway, I think you sound amazing, very re-focused on all the right things, and that in itself is a big achievement. Enjoy the trip, post some pics. xx Nancy

Thanks Nancy! My pics will likely be on Instagram…It’s the photo album of my life.
Having thoughts is inevitable, going back to the mantra is the answer:)
I am so sorry those doctors are still screwing with you! Damn!
I love that you loved that Chopra event. I love Deepak and I have learned so much from him and meditation. I wish I could meditate @6 am – for some reason I fall right back asleep. I am a right after lunch meditator and it recharges my batteries for the day. With my book announcement I am in the midst of a whole lotta social media and look forward to managing it better in the coming weeks! Namaste baby – love the lime!

That’s a great time to meditate. I started many, many years ago but this reminder and reconnection has been fabulous.
Gee do you need to be 30 now to get a hip? Seriously crazy. That’s like my son’s otho had to write a letter to the insurance because they rejected braces coverage because he was deemed to ‘old’ at 15!!
So glad you had a good time and got to get away from the rat race a bit. I hope we can do lunch soon. Good for you for going on the trip! I hope it’s great. Love, Kim
Wonderful! I thought of you when I was in SoCal visiting last week.
