10 Summer Wardrobe Essentials

Sun protection
~
While editing my closet today I found a couple of items I need to refresh for summer. That got me thinking about what basics we need to make summer easy and that’s the way I like my summers.
A wide brimmed hat like this one from Eric Javits blocks 95% UVA and UVB rays.
It has a 4″inch brim so it’s perfect for running errands, jumping in and out of the car and general day to day exposure to the sun.
Be sure to keep it on in the car. Yes, there’s protective film on your car windows but its not enough. Compare your left and right cheeks…you’ll find more sun damage on the left side…assuming your driver seat is on the left!
Also by Eric Javits  with the same 95% sun block properties, it offers even more protection just based on the brim size.

This highly rated sunscreen protects you from both UVA & UVB rays. It goes on beautifully under makeup and was an Allure and Elle magazine “best pick”.  I use it everywhere, everyday.

A New White Blouse
~

This Kate Spade one is semi sheer and lightweight. It looks great over skirts and tucked into your favorite white jeans. Do check your sleeveless white blouses from last year to be sure the underarms are not stained from your deodorant. White T-shirts fall into the same category regarding “freshness”.

Espadrilles

Colorful ones like these French ones from Quel Objet are comfy and classic.
Picture them with white jeans and a colorfulT shirt or a longflowy summer skirt.

Or these fun, dressier ones from Paloma Barcelo which show off that pretty pedicure and also look terrific with your white jeans and casual dresses.

Cotton T-Shirt Dress
~
A lightweight T-shirt dress to throw on over a bathing suit, run errands during the day, lunches out or casual dining in the evening. This nautical striped one by Rag and Bone is effortlessly chic and easy to wear.
Multiples of these type dresses are always great to have on hand. They pack well and are usually easy care.

New Lipstick
~
Try some of the new colors for summer in a lighter weight version. It’s a great pick-me-up for very little investment. Remember to choose the warmth or coolness of the lipstick color to match your skin tone.
You can break this rule if you like…but be aware if you do, people will notice your lips first… not your pretty face.

A Great Pair Of White Jeans
~
Crisp white jeans are a great summer staple. These narrow legged ones by Cookie Johnson have light stretch built into them for optimum comfort. Like white shirts and T-Shirts, you should check them over for stains, yellowing and to ensure the fit is still flattering. For some strange reason our bodies can change year to year.

Summer wrap

Choose one or two in a fun color that you’ll be happy to throw on. Evening breezes, air conditioned theaters and restaurants all feel better when you have something to cover your shoulders. They’re also great to wrap around a bathing suit at the beach or pool, throw around your neck or waist for color and tied onto your summer tote.

Summer Tote
~
The is the classic Lands End canvas tote that takes you everywhere. Lands End says this is the bag that started their whole company.  Throw a clutch into it so you can leave the tote in the car while you dash in and out of shops!
This raffia one by Milly is a bit dressier and fun with the green leather and bamboo top handles.

Cute Sandals
~

Great for day or casual evenings, these simple nude sandals go with virtually anything. There are lots of different “nudes” out there so be aware. When choosing nude shoes, hose or lingerie for that matter, choose your nude that blends with your own coloring.

I love a wide brimmed hat for summer on the boat and in the convertible.
Eminence organic mineral sunscreen is my “go to” protection.

White tees, white shirts, a cotton chemise to sleep in and some capri’s and casual sun dresses with sandals and flip flops. I almost forgot to add some pretty scarves!

We use those Land’s End bags for our boat totes and they are super strong and hold a lot of gear.

I hope your hubby is on the mend.
