5 Easy Ways To Refresh Your Style This Spring

Spring is here and it’s a great time to shake up how you put your outfits together. It’s so easy to get in a styling rut and have our look start to feel stale. Today I’m sharing 5 easy ways to refresh your style this spring.

Switch up your accessories

PEBBLED PEARL BROOCH

If you regularly wear earrings and a necklace, try replacing the necklace with a brooch. They’re an often-overlooked accessory that adds a distinctive look to every outfit. The younger generation doesn’t seem to have caught on to this little gem of an accessory, but they’re making a comeback. Break up jewelry sets and pair them with other pieces for a new look.

SWEATER / JEANS / LOAFERS / LIGHTWEIGHT JACKET / SUNGLASSES / WOVEN BAG / BANDANA / EARRINGS / LIPSTICK IN “TRUST”Ā

try a new color Combination

Orange and bright pink is a popular combo this spring that looks current and fun. If this is too bright for you or not flattering to your complexion, try combining two other unexpected colors that do flatter you. Play with what you have in new ways that’ll have a refreshed feel. You can also lighten up your base color for a change of pace. If navy is your go-to neutral base, try off-white, taupe, pearl gray, or soft yellow.

Update Your Handbag

VINCE CAMUTO CROSSBODY

A handbag makes a huge impact on your style so try a new shape and perhaps a fun color. The woven trend is super popular this year and available in every shade under the rainbow. Always carry a rectangle bag? Try a round or oval shape.

Style Your Hair differently

Get a fresh cut and try something new. It’s all too easy to get stuck in a hair rut because we’ve found what works so stay the course rather than update. If you wear a side part, a refresh can be as simple as flipping to the other side. You could also try a zig-zag or diagonal part which helps balance the volume of hair on both sides.

Swap Your Shoes

DENIM JACKET / SCALLOP HEM PANTS / STRIPED TOP / SUNGLASSES / EARRINGS / BRACELET / CROSSBODY BAGĀ  / TASSEL SLINGBACK SHOES / LIPSTICK IN “RUBY YOU”

If you regularly wear neutral-colored shoes, try a pop of color. A red shoe adds instant fun to any outfit, as does yellow, mint, orange, or even a patterned shoe. Step away from (bad pun) neutral-colored shoes and try some with unique detailing.

Have you thought about how you will refresh your style this spring?

Thanks for reading and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

  1. I have a brooch or pin on all of my jackets and outerwear. A much younger friend even noticed and recently gifted me a new one saying “I love how you wear pins”. I work in retail and need to wear closed-toed shoes, so I have a selection of flats and Sketchers in assorted colors for work.

I am a new follower, seventy-three, love clothes, shoes and bags! Your style is lovely and I am enjoying your post!

    1. Welcome, Anne! I’m so happy you’ve joined us.

  3. I have several denim jackets , so initially , I had not clicked on the one in the photo. When you do , the model on the Chico’s site it wearing the chevron top, but I scrolled through all the tops & tees and didn’t see it šŸ™

  4. Love the combo of the chevron stripe top under the denim jacket and white pants.
Particularly like the effect of the chevron stripe . Unfortunately there is no link for that top.

I love all your suggestions. My guilty pleasure is watching Lady Colin Campbell on YT. She inspired me a year or so ago to bring out my brooches and pins. My favorite from my collection is one my husband and daughter bought me for Mother’s Day. Their favorite artist is Salvadore Dali and there was an exhibition in Philadelphia years back they attended. In the gift shop was a brooch with his version of the Madonna and Child. It is unusual, but still quite exquisite. I never fail to get noticed when I wear it.

    1. It sounds amazing!!

  6. Jennifer,
I don’t see a link for the navy/white striped tee. Is it a Chico’s tee?

    1. Click “Striped Top” in red under the pic. It’s Nordstrom.

  7. Hi Jennifer, You read my mind with this post, what fun. Thanks to reading your blog and Pam Lutrell’s, I’ve been trying to freshen things up for the season and also get away from so much black. I just opened
my delivery of gold hoop with pearl dangle earrings and a pair of olive green suede Biza sandal booties. I have a pretty medium shade purple top on order and a white cardigan, too. That leaves the hair and the bag to work on! I think I might already have a bag in the closet I can pull back into rotation. Thanks for all the inspiration!

  8. Love these outfits youā€™ve put together! Fun ideas here! I havenā€™t owned red shoes in yearsā€”itā€™s time!!

  9. Thanks, Jennifer. I’m not a big pin person, never have been, but I enjoy looking at them. Madeleine Albright wrote a book about all the pins, brooches that she collected or was given over the years. I highly recommend it. I love the combos you put together and am trying to decide what lipstick I should buy from your Bare Minerals collection — nothing to bright and nothing too pink/peachy. If you have suggestions, pls let me know. Have a lovely weekend.

    1. My favorite is the Confidence which is a medium rose shade

  10. Thanks for all these great suggestions; I always enjoy your posts. It’s still quite cool in my corner of the country but I have a big yellow flower pin from the 70’s that I think I’ll wear on my denim jacket!

    1. Yay, that will add cheeriness to your look

  11. Jennifer, I’m going to get out all my brooches this weekend thanks to your inspiration! I’m also going to dig out what I would call “pins.” Along with brooches, they were “the thing” when I was young! I think, as you have alluded to, they would be quite the conversation piece in this day and age.
Your posts are fun and informative!
    Have a great weekend!

    1. Happy Weekend, Nancy!

  12. Hi Jennifer, these are such great reminders for spring. After what seems like an interminable winter, we need pops of colour! I love adding colour through accessories and have several brooches that add sass to my outfits. While I own one black handbag, I only carry it for funerals or somber occasions. My teal Chanel handbag is my favourite!

    1. Your teal Chanel would be my favorite too! It sounds so pretty

  13. Thanks! I actually purchased my first white denim jacket which was really a challenge since I waited so late in the fashion season. And have yellow, blue (Your faves), and fuschia pairs of flats which I adore.

    1. Great ideas! I was looking at my brooches the other day and thinking I should wear them with something. I used to always wear one on my jean jacket. I love red shoes, they are just happy.

      1. I love to add them to my denim jackets too

    2. I wear my white denim one a lot in the spring

  14. Itā€™s really quite liberating when we shake things up a bit! Adding soft pink, shades of off white, small prints are all new to me. Having a hair style that has movement, not sprayed into a solid style all look more modern. Iā€™ve been adding one drop of bio oil to my daily moisturizer for a softer complexion. I use a light hand and carefully blend any foundation that I may use.
I love your brooches but not sure they will ever catch on with the younger gals. I would avoid any matching earrings/necklace combos. Actually, I donā€™t wear earrings because I always wear glasses. That and my eye makeup and lipstick is enough fluff around my head! Lol
I have a very similar cream colored, hooded jacket and wear it non stop!

    1. Happy Friday Jan! I love all the things youā€™ve done

  15. Donna Dobbins says:

When I saw the cream coat I just had to order .
We head to Ireland in 3 weeks. So I think it is the perfect coat to take.
Donā€™t do a lot of shopping at JCrew but will definitely start.
    Love your posts.

    1. Have a wonderful trip!! We loved our visits!
