Weekend Reading: 03.14.25

Happy Saturday! I am thrilled it’s finally the weekend.

My daughter and I were going back through photos this week, and she was surprised at how few photos there are of me wearing color. It doesn’t really surprise me, but I would like to add a few more touches of color to my wardrobe. Since classics are such a big part of my wardrobe, my mind goes to classic colors…but maybe I should try others. I dislike fast fashion and I’m not a fan of “disposable” clothes that are gone in a season, so I’ll be treading carefully. Just musing 🙂

Bestsellers of the Week

Fashion On My Radar

  • Pants other than jeans…shocking, I know. This week, I wanted to wear something other than cords or jeans, and I realized everything I had was cropped…not what I want to wear in chilly Vancouver weather. These NYDJ slim pants look great in the feather color.
  • I love the look of these Nic+Zoe stretch trousers and would just ignore the name suit.
  • I bought this woven leather tote in beige last summer, and now they have it in navy!
  • This open-weave cotton cardigan is so great for summer
  • I’ve had my eye out for this classic shoulder bag, second-hand for close to 20 years! You’ll be the first to know if I treat myself to one.

What brand are your glasses – in the plane picture – I love them!

Sending you lots of “feel better soon!” thoughts, Jennifer. I just bought the Maison de Sabré small soft leather tote in Emerald Lily from Nordstrom with my tax refund. I know it is far from a neutral color, but it will be perfect with my green Vivaia square toed flats that I bought a few months ago to finish off one of my office outfits. I just couldn’t resist the temptation, LOL! Emerald green is one of my favorite colors and it’s usually so hard to find. I also went to the evolvetogether website and bought a set of their N95 masks in the khaki for me and another set in black for my husband to keep in our travel kits. With our summer and fall travel plans, I want to avoid us getting sick from someone else on the plane. Speaking of bright colors, have you finished your lovely blue sweater yet? Did you decide to go with the i-cord edging? Please share a picture with us when you get a chance. Sending virtual hugs to you and anyone else in the AWSL community who needs one. Also, Happy St. Patrick’s Day to anyone who will be celebrating on Monday.

    1. You are so sweet, Christine, thank you. Your greens sound fabulous! I agree, we should snap up colors we love when we see them because we may not see them again soon. I’m partial to periwinkle and always keep an eye out for it. I did finish my sweater. I ran out of yarn so could not do an i-cord, but I plan to make one on the teal one when I finish. I’ll share photo’s soon. Happy weekend

I have vowed to keep a couple of N95 masks in my handbag from now on. We returned from our holiday – three airports and two 8 hour flights so large planes and lots of coughs! I now have laryngitis which my Dad used to call “poetic justice”.
I too am trying to add more colour to my wardrobe. Some of your recent posts have helped, thank you! Feel better soon!

    1. I hope you feel better soon too, Jenny. I love your name

  4. I hope you do not come down with what the passenger next to you had! I am so sorry you had to sit there! Please stay well!!!
The trousers you featured were so cute. I, too, love to live in jeans and these pants look very comfy but stylish too. A nice addition!
Thanks for all you do for your readers; you are a treasure trove of info for me!!

    1. You’re so sweet, thanks Rita

  5. Dear Jennifer: So sorry for you to have had this exposure to someone’s cough. Hopefully the photo of you with the mask on was what you quickly did. You have reminded me of the importance of having a mask with me at all times. We need to get to the point that we think nothing of wearing a mask in public if we are ill or coughing. This is the norm in Japan I am told both pre- and post pandemic. Sadly mask wearing has negative implications for many in the U.S. Our son, a pulmonologist, does tell us that airplane filters are now much better and more closely monitored than pre-pandemic. But that doesn’t really help if the guy next to you is coughing up a storm of viral stuff. Hope and pray you stay well.

    1. I see people wearing masks for allergy season, which is actually pretty smart! Thank you Mary

  6. Diana Broere says:

Hi Jennifer. I love the cream/brown scarf you are wearing in the photo on the plane. Is it new or one you have had for a while?

    1. Thanks Diana, I have had it for many years.

  7. I keep at least two clean masks in my bag all the time now. We are experiencing an early pollen season and my nose and eyes are already itching and running. We can hope that was his problem?
It is warm for 2-3 days then cold and blustery with high wind and fire danger. The have been fighting two grass fires up north here. One was started accidentally by a homeless man, probably trying to keep warm and cook some food.
It is still long heavier jeans time here and socks, coats, hats and gloves! Cozy up and keep the tea going this weekend. Hope you beat it off quickly!

    1. Thank you Sydney. Say safe and warm

  8. Sue Lewellen says:

Hope you feel better soon. Lots of flu going around where I live.

  9. Betty Barton says:

Jennifer, I loved the tip about keeping a brooch from slipping off. I’m 85 and, thankfully, still going strong.
My mother passed a couple of years ago, and I have all her brooches- good ones and costume jewelry, and I really enjoy wearing these pieces.

    1. Isn’t it a great one?? You’re so lucky to have her brooches.

  10. Beth Crawford says:

    Good morning Jennifer.
I am looking for some advice. I love the look of the high waisted pants but I am short waisted and any that I have tried on are not comfortable and look odd on me. I am interested in the Athleta endless pants and I wondered if you could tell me how they fit in real life.
Thank you for the help !
    Beth

    1. Mid rise pants would be high rise on you. The Endless is at my waist but I have a long torso. They have a curvier fit than straight, so my straight hips have plenty of fabric. Slimmer high rise might be a nice option

  11. Oh Jennifer! How awful for you! And next to you…., what was he thinking? Stay home Mister!
    Hope you stay healthy….
Aside:,I just love the neutrals in my closet —And on me too! A pop of blue or new green is nice too.

    1. It was sort of funny when the people across the aisle from me looked over and grimaced. That’s when I knew I was in trouble
