Back To Basics in Black And White
Happy Friday, ladies. The weekend is almost upon us! Let’s get back to basics today, and specifically, the classics. Today’s ootd is a basic black and white outfit that is always chic, easy to coordinate, and will take you anywhere in style.
This post is sponsored by Nordstrom and ShopStyle.
I am a huge fan of Nordstrom Made Brands and my wardrobe is reflecting that love. Nordstrom has an entire team of fashion designers who create modern styles for the whole family, of great quality at unbeatable prices. These are pieces with staying power in your, and my, wardrobe because they’re designed with us in mind.
Today’s ootd is classic to the bone with some lighthearted flats to keep my feet cool and comfy. You’ve seen me wear this Pima cardigan before and you’ll see me wear it many times more because it’s a quintessential, lightweight cardigan that pops over everything. I bought the leopard print version several years ago, and find it’s as wearable today, as then, because it’s timeless.
I added the white cardi to my wardrobe this summer and I’m thinking the gray would be great for September when I want to wear fall colors but my weather is still too warm. The 3/4 sleeves are great for showcasing bracelets and since I always push mine up, this makes it easier. The funny thing is, I like this cardi tossed over my shoulders for accent, as much as I do when worn on my body:)

I’ve tossed it over the shoulders of this black and white gingham shirt, by Halogen. Nordstrom makes this shirt in a myriad of solids and prints every season that is predictably great quality and fits beautifully. My gingham seems to be sold out but there are other prints here, white here, and chambray here.
Black can be tough to wear in hot weather but these everyday skinny-fit stretch cotton ankle pants come to the rescue with a flattering high rise, side zip to prevent tummy bulge, and machine wash and dry fabric which couldn’t be easier in the summer. They’re available in sizes 00-16 and run true to size. I am wearing a 6.
I’ve been seeing brushed teardrop earrings everywhere this spring and decided these are the perfect pair for me. Their simple organic shape is perfect for a casual outfit and the brushed finish has a modern feel that appeals to me. I chose silver, but they also come in gold and at this price, you can afford both.
I’ve discovered that a white shoulder bag fits into my wardrobe as easily as my black ones, maybe better. It’s just as versatile but has a lighter vibe that looks more appropriate when it’s hot. This Ivey Medium Crossbody holds everything I need including my big case for my sunglasses. I’m all about hand-free bags these days because they’re so easy and I don’t have to put my bag down on things.
And these Jana Slide Sandals, what can I say? I call them my happy slides because they’re amazingly comfortable, and cute to boot! I love them so much, I bought them in yellow and I never wear yellow:) The frayed fabric top is soft and the sole is flexible so they’re always comfy no matter how much my feet swell.
RECENTLY ADDED TO MY WARDROBE FROM NORDSTROM BRAND
I’ve made no secret of the fact that Nordstrom is my favorite department store to shop at because they offer free shipping and returns, every day. Plus, as part of the Nordies club, (free to join here) I get free alterations and earn points with every purchase to spend on a future purchase. I like to save up my points to use on a special something that may feel too costly, but you can spend yours the moment you earn them:)
Think of Nordstrom as your one-stop place for favorite looks this summer!
Thanks for reading ladies and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.
Pretty cool outfit that I would have never put together myself!
I agree with you about the Nordstrom brands. I was buying their “house” brands before I realized that they were Nordstrom brands.
They just seem to be right in tune with what women want.
Me too! I had no idea that Halogen and Caslon were Nordstrom brands
I love black and white. And it looks very good on you. Wish I had a Nordstrom in this area.
Just have to open an online account (one more will not hurt) 😉
Well, the other ladies have used up about every positive adjective to describe how much I love your ootd! Those feathery strap slides are so cute! As another comment suggested, you could mix and match all these pieces with your existing wardrobe. Isn’t that smart shopping!! I could wear this exact style for years to come.
Thank you for all the great inspiration!
That’s one of the main reasons I love black and white. Timeless.
I have been following your blog, and I must say the black/white combo is just great on you. I know you favor blue and pastel, but I think you can pull off more contrast and you look terrific!
Thanks Debbie. I love black and white! I do have to bump up my makeup to balance it but am more than happy to do it. 🙂
Black and white is always chic and you look great! I love Nordstrom but wish they still had a petite section.
I know! They’re all mixed in now which isn’t as easy to find.
Looking very chic, Jennifer and do like Nordstrom selections however am waiting for the USA/Canadian border to open up to take advantage of processing through Customs myself. (IMO though convenient to most, I feel the brokerage firm that ‘they’ use is somewhat costly and making a return is a hassle.) Particularly loving your choice in accessories today.
Just when you think I’m loving on color a neutral outfit comes along and you realize why your closet is full of neutrals. They just look right. I love gingham but for some reason don’t have a black and white. This makes me want to definitely get one. You look so timeless in this outfit.
Jennifer, you look so chic in the black and white!!! And I love the gingham shirt and the slide sandals. Awesome look!
Thank you Vivian!
Classic and so useful. The great pieces you’re wearing here can do double duty ( or triple and more…) paired with other pieces in our wardrobes! Thanks for sharing!
I love Nordstrom brands! Zella offered terrific and long lasting work out items. Don’t know who makes the Nordstrom signature brand, but in my experience the garments look and fit like high end products. I don’t work at Nordstrom (maybe I should), by love their PL.
The Nordstrom Signature collection is made by Nordstrom too. I agree it’s very luxurious and of high quality. Their cashmere last winter was show-stopping.
