In The Dressing Room at Anthropologie

Happy Friday ladies. Yesterday’s post on boho-chic wardrobe essentials inspired me to visit our local Anthropologie and try some on some new things so here’s a mini dressing room try-on session at Anthropologie.

If you’re new here, welcome. A dressing room diary is when I go into a local store for a try-on session so you can see what’s new and how it looks on a woman over 25. For reference, I am 5’4″ and weigh around 138 lbs with broad shoulders and straight hips. I have a long torso and arms so I often buy one size larger on top. I try on clothes in colors and shapes that may or may not flatter me so you can see what’s in the stores and get some styling ideas. I tell you what sizes I am wearing to help you understand how things run.

As always, you can click the red text for more info and to shop the item at no additional cost to you.

WEARING – CLOTH AND STONE DRESS

This tie-dye midi dress is a melange of gray and blue stripes. It has a handy snap at the wrap front which keeps it from gaping when you bend over. It comes in sizes XXS to XXL. I’m wearing a medium. The slit on the leg makes it easy to walk but is still modest. I’m seeing lots of dresses these days that you’d have to wear pants under because the slits are so high.

WEARING – PILCRO TEE / MAEVE PANTS

This Pilcro double V-neck tee comes in six colors in standard, petite, and plus in sizes XXS to 3X. I grabbed a medium that is too snug for me so I would go up one size in this lighter color. I tucked it in so you could see the waistband on the pants.

I just love these printed wide-leg pants. They come in three patterns, standard, petite, and tall. I’m wearing a small and needed an extra small because they run quite generously. These are such great flowy pants that you could dress up or down. I see them with sandals but I can also see them dressed up as palazzo pants for a dressier occasion.

WEARING – BY ANTHROPOLOGIE SHIRTCITIZENS OF HUMANITY ELLA JEANS

This handkerchief cotton button-down shirt is the prettiest lilac color and also comes in white. It has self-covered buttons and has an allover embroidery which gives it a feminine, summery feel. It comes in standard, petite, and plus. XXS to XL. I’m wearing a standard medium which is quite loose so think I could go with the petite medium because it’s intended to be loose.

These citizen of humanity jeans are a nice light wash with slight distressing. They come in sizes 23 to 34, I’m wearing a 29 which is a little bit larger on me so I would go down to a 28. They have a great high rise and slim fit.

WEARING – T.LA TANK / MAEVE WIDE-LEG PANTS

These fabulous wide-leg pants come in standard, petite, tall, and plus, sizes 0-26W. I’m wearing a standard size 8 which has a 32″ inseam that I have folded under. The petite’s have a 30″ inseam so they’re perfect for wearing with the “seen everywhere this year”, clogs, or platforms this spring. This scoopneck layering tank top comes in 10 colors, XXS-XL. I’m wearing a medium.

WEARING – PILCRO TEE / BY ANTHROPOLOGIE SKIRT

This A-line ruffled midi skirt is available in this blue aura print, in standard, petite, or plus. It comes in sizes 00–26W. The slit is pretty high but it’s not too high to wear without a pair of leggings underneath it. I am wearing a 6 which is too snug for me so I would go up to an eight.

WEARING –  MAEVE BLOUSE  /  CITIZENS OF HUMANITY ELLA JEANS

This embroidered button-down is a linen/cotton blend with beautiful embroidery all over the fabric. It comes in sizes XXS-XL. I’m wearing a medium so it’s nice and roomy and runs true to size. The classic in me would pair this with straight white jeans and some blue sandals 🙂

WEARING – MAEVE BLOUSEMAEVE PANTS “THE COLETTE”

I just love this outfit. This button-down tie-front shirt comes in standard, petite, or plus, sizes 0 to 26W. It’s 100% cotton. The cuffs have a blue and white stripe on the inside. They show it styled with this embroidered cami which is adorable. I’m wearing a standard in 8 which is too large but since it’s cropped, I’d stay with the standard and go down to the 6.

I love these wide-leg pants! The nautical motif is very popular every spring/summer, but more so this year because it’s on-trend. They come in standard, tall, and plus. The petite is sold out but I like this length just fine! These are selling out fast for good reason. It’s hard to explain, but they have a timeless quality to them so they will be wearable year after year.

WEARING – WOVEN FLORAL RUANA / T.LA TANK TOP  /  CITIZENS OF HUMANITY ELLE JEANS

This beautiful ruana is a quintessential boho piece that would have come home with me if I were several inches taller. The subtle, spotted animal print is black and white, dotted with random flowers and it’s light and flowy shape will elevate anything you pair it with.

Hi Jennifer -always interesting pieces at Anthropologie but I tend to gravitate to their winter tops: tees, sweaters, tunics, jackets and accessories. For some reason I rarely shop there in summer. Just me. I must say I love that gorgeous blue skirt and the Colette pants! I may have to give a second look! Thank you Jennifer!

The best thing in this post is the last, long length ruana. It would be a very easy thing to shorten to whatever length you prefer, and not expensive if you had someone else do it. I am regretting you thought it was a “no”! I’m short so I have to know how to think in this way about much of what I buy because height wise I am “petite” but in proportions I am not.

  3. Jennifer, thanks so much. I have been wondering how to spruce up my very conservative style. I purchased that lovely silver bracelet from yesterday’s post. I think I am a one or two boho, not the entire look, but I enjoy looking at different pieces that I might add.

  4. Love going to Anthropologie and browsing their home decor items. Their clothes tend to be too young-ish and trendy for me, as well as quite pricey. Everything looks great on you! Jealous of your “buff” arms!

  5. Cool post! I love Anthropologie, but have to say, most items don’t look good on me at 5’2″ and the weight that I am at the present moment. I go into our local store all the time and it seems to me that the styles are more for younger women; although, I have to say, I love everything on you!
Yes, I would add a touch of boho to my wardrobe!

  6. Liked the nautical pants and tied shirt. Very cute. And the Lilac shirt with the jean. Other than that, the style was not to my taste. But still enjoyed the post as always.

  7. Jennifer, what is the difference between a RUANA and a DUSTER?
    or KIMONO?
They look very similar , and I believe I have one of each .( Chico’s) Is it just a different term used by designers.

I do enjoy a bit of boho in my look… colourful, flowy fabrics with looser fits. Often kept in closet & enjoyed .
    For warmer weather dressing though.

    1. A ruana does not usually have sewn-in sleeves, but many do so I think the terms are used interchangeably by brands.

  8. Though normally not a fan of floral patterns , do like the Maeve pants with their modern print and due to their fabric content is something I might wear paired with a soft/draping top ( for example a tank top in a rayon blend ), dress strappy heeled sandals and a small scaled handbag to bump them up a notch with jewelry in accordance. Whereas for more casual wear, style them as you have but with a chunky sandal plus jewelry and unstructured minimalist hand bag in a natural material. Really like the Maeve Wide Leg pants on you. -Brenda-

    1. Thanks, Brenda. I am really tempted

  9. My favorite is the camp shirt. You do look cute in the ruffled skirt though! I have wider hips, so I couldn’t wear that particular style. I do love the boho look. I tend to swing between classic and boho.

  10. Peggy West says:

I would not look good in any of these clothes so it is a pass for me. However, the blue color in the midi ruffle is exceptional.

  11. Love your posts on the Boho look. Could you please be on the lookout for a ruana or poncho for petites under 5’4″? I’m beginning to think we aren’t meant to wear them. Thank you.

    1. That’s exactly what I wanted to ask!

      1. I will. They can be overwhelming on petite women so they also need to be slimmer fitting

    2. I will be keeping my eye out for them because so many ladies love them

I love all the pants you’re showing here, Jennifer and can see me in them! It’s one of my go to stores for tops ( especially in fall/ winter ). I have some older wide leg pants from there ( I call them palazzos ) as they are patterned and flowy- pretty too! Thanks for sharing! You look great!

    1. Thanks Paulette, Happy Friday

  13. Happy Friday. I like the anchor print Maeve trousers. The first pair got really poor reviews. I know it’s now a fact of life that even expensive brands don’t bother to match patterns at the seam, but I still object paying more than $100 for sloppy work. The other outfits — thanks for modeling! – didn’t wow me: most are too pastel for my coloring. The ruana is pretty but I don’t wear them or kimonos, just not my style. You mention wearing heels or clogs with long pants, but a 30″ inseam as way too long for a true petite — and most of us over 60 women don’t wear 3″ heels anymore. (And forgive me for a pet peeve: “Maeve” misrepresents what the name means.)

  14. Love Anthropologie! Sometimes I’ll just browse through my local store for home inspiration and cool fashion looks! Very unique items. Love the jeans and flowy tops. Sometimes I need a little boho chic added to my basic jeans and white tank top. Great try-on session!!

    1. I’m so glad you liked it. I did not know I had so many boho lovers in my audience

  15. I love boho but at 4’11”, I try to keep it to one item. And Anthropologie
( there’s a typo in your title- missing the r) has a lot of petite sizing. Yippee! When they have sales it’s hard not to go beserk! Really like how you show mixing in boho with classic.

    1. Hey Susan, you’re missing the “r” in berserk! 😂

    2. Whoops, thanks! I fixed it. I agree, their sales are really enticing 🙂
