Cashmere Giveaway: Dressing for a Ladies Night Out

Cashmere Giveaway: Dressing for a Ladies Night Out

I was so ready for Spring…then it started raining again. We need the rain, but I want to wear Spring clothes! Today I’m sharing how I dress for my Spring mood during Winter weather. Don’t let the pictures fool you. It started pouring cats and dogs an hour later and hasn’t let up since!

Style has the power to transform your confidence. Working from the outside in, women can boost their confidence by hitting their Style Sweet Spot. Pam Lutrell and I began this new series, Hit Your Style Sweet Spot, to help and inspire those women who are struggling with their appearance. Each week we choose a scenario from our daily lives to show why, what and how we dress to reach our style sweet spot. Your style sweet spot is when you feel confident about your appearance and know you are sending the message you want people to see.

Stepping Up Your Game in Retirement

Last week Pam and I shared how we dress in Black and White. This week we are showing how we dress for a Ladies Night Out.

Lighter colors in winter weight fabrics are a great way to span the seasons.

True confessions!! When did my hair become so silver?

I’m starting with color and texture. Shiny patent leather handbag, simple pearl earrings and fun pleating in this Zen Jacket, by Babette.  I’ve loved and worn Babette for years. I am wearing the jacket snapped closed as a shirt, but will wear it open over a tank top in warmer weather.

Dressing for a Ladies Night Out, I always pay a bit more attention to detail.

This bracelet was an unusual purchase for me because I don’t wear many patterns. It was made by the Aboriginal Canadians and sold at a little shop on Vancouver Island. It’s now a favorite because of the rich memories it brings back of our home there.

Having a lightweight cashmere shoulder wrap is the perfect way to transition seasons.

My favorite pants from Eileen Fisher can be dressed up or down. If you haven’t discovered the ease and wearability of ponte knit, you owe it to yourself to try. They travel perfectly and are easy care, machine wash and dry. These pants are one of the work horses of my wardrobe, so you’ll see me wearing them a lot!

Cashmere Wrap from Purple Poppy!

I love these classic Ray Ban sunglasses with Flash lenses, because they’re polarized and silver framed!

I’ve added this Cashmere Topper by Claudia Nicole, available at the Purple Poppy. It’s a great weight cashmere for Spring and will be the perfect wrap for summer evenings and restaurant air conditioning.

Style Tip- Remove labels from garments, once you own them. This prevents them from sticking out and showing through thin fabrics.

The label in this wrap was centered in the back seam. It would have shown through the light color and preventing me from wearing it certain ways. **There is no label or size police. Cut those puppies out and enjoy!!

Purple Poppy is gifting a Cashmere Topper to one of my readers, in your choice of color.

The winner has been chosen and this giveaway is over. Thank you!

Now let’s pop over to see how Pam is hitting her Style Sweet Spot.

xo Jennifer

i looked at the shawls.I usuall go for bright but a shawl for me needs to be neutral and different than a jacket so I picked the “Dune” color which is not white and not beige.
It will look good with everything I wear and though warm it will look cool towards spring and summer.

Bayberry, Seashore, or Galato. I tend to wear turquoise and pinks a lot. Usually I always play it safe in wraps and go with an off white or black. Would love to have one of those lovely colors to try.

It’s a tough choice between Sand Castle and Poppy. I wear a lot of reds and browns so either color is perfect for me. Love the other items that Purple Poppy sells, too.

The color choices of the wraps are beautiful, but for Spring and the climate in the Southwest, the white wrap you have chosen is a perfect choice for cool desert nights.

At last, after a lifetime of getting my ‘look’ completely wrong, I’m now working on re-inventing myself. I’m devouring blogs that address the fashion issues of ladies who are fifty-plus. A creamsicle topper would lighten up my face – see, I’m learning! 🙂

    March 14, 2016 / 1:51 pm

I’m new to your blog and I’m enjoying it immensely. Now I want to go back and read the earlier entries. As for the giveaway, I would have to choose MIST. It only took 15 minutes to decide. Thank goodness they don’t have more choices. Joni Mitchell was right: Too many choices can make you crazy. Thanks for the opportunity to win one — and for the spot-on style advice. Enjoy your Blabs, too! I see this is the blouse/jacket you were wearing in one of them. Love the pleating!

Thank you for the styling tips. It’s so nice to see advice for women “of a certain age” as opposed to those who are twenty-something. If I had to pick a color, I would choose Rio since a pretty red would go with many other things in my closet.

  39. nancy
    March 14, 2016 / 2:57 am

Oh yes, I always remove the labels. I think it’s so ugly when you see them. And it’s itchy. What a fantastic colours for that scarf. I like them all really! 🙂

I’m very new to your blog but love what I see and read. I would choose the colour Mist. The beautiful light wrap would be ideal in my North of England climate where even in the summer I need something to keep off the evening chill. Beautiful.

  41. March 13, 2016 / 10:03 pm

Your outfit is perfect for an evening out with girlfriends. The wrap would be welcome almost any evening of the year here on Vancouver Island – the ocean breezes are cool, as you well know. Mist would be my choice – neutral and pretty.

  42. Terry A.
    March 13, 2016 / 9:53 pm

A tough choice indeed. Lovely colors. I think I would have to pick Lilac. It reminds me of a favorite sweater I used to have, and would bring back happy memories.

  54. March 13, 2016 / 3:46 pm

Fabulous giveaway, Jen! This is the perfect way to wear cashmere. I love this on you. I would go with the champagne (for obvious reasons;). It’s so hard to choose with such beautiful shades.
The rain hasn’t let up here either. Has it been a week? My husband just re-booked our trip to Riviera Maya for 10 days from now. Clearly he is feeling better. So happy!!
    Have a great week, Jen.

  55. March 13, 2016 / 3:30 pm

Cutting the label out is one of my favorite tricks, but sometimes, if the fabric’s too thin, even with tiny scissors, you run the risk of tearing it. Ash #236!

    • Jennifer
      March 13, 2016 / 6:45 pm

I always use a seam ripper and remove the thread the label is sewn in with 🙂

  68. March 13, 2016 / 1:12 pm

Geez o-pete—you weren’t kidding that it was hard to choose. The colors are quite beautiful. I would opt for something that’s not common in my closet—and bayberry would have to be it!

  73. Delyn
    March 13, 2016 / 11:38 am

What a wonderful color selection. How to pick just one? I think it would have to be the cobalt blue to bring out the blue in my eyes.

  74. March 13, 2016 / 11:33 am

    Hi Jenn!
Wow . . . such a selection of colors! I love the versatility of this accessory! While I should go with color, my practical self says . . .” Sand Castle”. I can wear it with pearls and ponte knits, and boho it up over a tank and blue jeans. Gosh! One of these would be a great tuck into my work bag. Nice feature! I have bookmarked Purple Poppy.

  75. March 13, 2016 / 11:33 am

Beautiful wraps. I love the blush and pink ice. Both great but the blush would be more useful.

    Cheers, M-T

  82. March 13, 2016 / 9:18 am

WOW!! I’d meet you anywhere for a Ladies Night Out w/you dressed like that. That color is soooo beautiful on you, and the sunglasses add that great je ne sais quoi, but…..I DO “sais quoi.” It’s your great fashion/style instincts putting this all together and making a classic outfit your own. The jacket/blouse is also “to die for.” I often recommend Eileen Fisher to clients, but I think they now carry petites, n’est-ce pas? Time for the Image Consultant, herself, to take a look.

Well, my friend, you have really hit your Style Sweet Spot and mine in this outfit. Gorgeous!!!

    Talk to you this week.

    Cheers, M-T

First of all – I really like your outfit Jennifer – especially the shoes.

My favourite for the topper is Butterfly (purple). I wear a lot of black & white and like a pop of colour to accent that.

Hope your weather improves – our snow has melted and we’re having an early spring (fingers crossed).

    March 13, 2016 / 4:58 am

Don’t know why I’ve taken so long to sign up as I’ve read all your posts for quite some time now – love your simple yet classic (with a pop of modern something) style.

Wanted to let you know that there seems to be something wrong at the “Poppy” site – you can see the different colour samples but the photo never changes – I’m always a sucker for turquoise so that’s the colour I would choose – it’s a lovely option to have and one I love to wear with black & white as a change from my ever present red. 🙂

  110. Carol LaRochelle
    March 13, 2016 / 4:55 am

Aren’t all the colors pretty enough to be in a Popsicle cone. I would choose any of the blue ones to make my eyes pop. The azure looks intriguing
    Love your blog.

Your best accessory is your hair. It’s such a beautiful color. If mine was that lovely silver I would stop with the highlights/lowlights and go au natural, too.
I love the details on your turquoise jacket/shirt. It really fits your curves. Very flattering!
Thank you for the opportunity to receive one of the cashmere toppers from Purple Poppy. There are so many colors to pick from that it’s almost impossible to say just one. Decisions, decisions! I think Blush, as it’s the color of the year and will nice with olive chinos.

Oh Jennifer, what a dilemma! My first thought was midnight but after reading and rereading your comments stating that it was a perfect weight for spring and summer restaurants, my thoughts moved on to MIST. I can imagine wearing this on those lovely evenings. You look so elegant in the photos wearing the lighter colour. This helped my decision.

Midnight for me: it reminds me of how the elderly Frenchman who would greet me when I arrived for French lessons with his wife: “Ah, clair comme le jour et belle comme la nuit!”

I recently found your blog and it is just what I need as I feel I’ve let myself become frumpy and am now ready to bloom into FABULOUS! My first choice for the cashmere topper would be Sky to accent my blue eyes & blonde hair. The Snow one would be more practical, yet Sky is calling my name and making me smile at just the thought of wrapping it around my shoulders. Sigh. I am excited to read all your previous posts and become Stylin’ Sharon!
