Would You Wear It- Sheer

Would You Wear It- Sheer

Happy Saturday ladies. I hope you’re all keeping your spirits up this week. I know tempers are short and we’re all frustrated. What we can count on is that the light at the end of the tunnel won’t be an oncoming train for long. We will get out. We will see our loved ones again and we will resume our lives.

In the meantime, I’d like to encourage you all to remember to be kind. We may hate what’s happening in our world, but we can’t know what others are dealing with because we all have private struggles. We really are in this together and you are not alone.

Now let’s have some fun. It’s time for would you wear it. Each Saturday my friend Pam and I share a mannequin and ask if you would wear what it’s wearing. We do this to foster communication in the comments and to better understand your style goals. Plus, it’s fun. We usually snap our mannequins in the store, but because we’re both stuck at home, we’re using other means. I snapped today’s mannequin through the window of a closed store a few weeks ago.

I love to have you share how you could style a look to make it work for your body and lifestyle.

So tell me, ladies, is this your style? Would you wear it and how would you style it to work for you?

Please keep your comments personal to you so no one gets their feelings hurt.

Here’s what’s trending on AWSL this week-

Mine arrived and they’re too short 🙁 My toes hit the end so I need to exchange them to see if they’re a better fit in a larger size. I love that they’re waterproof and it seems many of you do too. They come in a variety of colors and will be great poolside and all summer long.

The second most popular item is this gingham top. It’s hard to go wrong with classic gingham for spring.

Here are a few sale updates

I think this is the first mannequin that you’ve shown where I like everything! Would definitely wear it, in fact I think my white pants are very close to those.

I would wear it with a black bra underneath … for evening. xo

    I love Black & White.
It is always a classic combination.
I would be more likely to wear black pants as more slimming on my silhouette.
Love the sheer blouse & it would also be cute worn open with a camisole underneath.
If we ever get out of the house it would be a great addition to my wardrobe worn with red 👄.

I do wear an outfit like this a lot! In addition to white jeans, I have white slacks and love to pair with polka dots or stripes. I would wear this with a white, black, or colored tank or camisole. I have the white Birkenstock’s and love that you can wash them. I went a bit crazy and bought three pairs from Nordstrom’s the white waterproof ones and the two-strap style in white leather and a thong-style in black patent leather.

I would wear it with a nude camisole underneath. I do not like seeing white or black under tops or bottoms. I feel sorry when I see a woman wearing white underpants under white slacks it just accentuates things better left covered. It is the reason ALL of my undergarments are nude. I am an hourglass/pear shape and I wear white or light slacks as long as I wear a darker or print top that is long.

Cute top. I own a similar one. I like it with dark denim or white jeans. The pants shown here look big…maybe size down? Happy Saturday!

Great outfit and suggestions! I’d wear it , with a long necklace in white.
I wonder if it would be worth basting ( long, easy to remove stitches ) the side seams for those of us not comfortable with the partial tuck or balloon effect of too much fabric. Perhaps narrowing the sides would streamline the look?
    Thanks for the ideas!

Yes, like the sheer blouse a lot and I’d wear it. Since I’m petite would tuck it part way in at the front so as not to be swamped by it. I’d wear it with white capris, maybe a little more form fitted. To me, the trousers look too baggy in the picture. Like Andrea, I love polka dots.

I’m a fan of the top and like so many others would wear it with a black or white cami. I would love to see how women with a tummy who don’t like to tuck in would wear this blouse. I find that blouses untucked often make me look larger than I actually am and wearing a belt doesn’t look right either.

That’s one of the reasons the half tuck is so popular.

That shear top is so lovely! I would wear it with a white cami or a black cami … or even one that is more colorful like bright pink or yellow. It would work so well with cropped pants or jeans. Such a versatile garment!!

I like gingham but for me the top is too overwhelming. Maybe differents sleeves or perhaps a belt.

Very classic top and pant. Glad to see something besides skin tight pants. I don’t wear black anymore so I wouldn’t buy the top, but white pants are a year round choice here. I must have 15 pairs.
I love gingham but something about this top feels “off” to me.. not sure what. I like the fabric and the style. I had bias cut, maxi A- line skirt made of b&w cotton gingham of this scale long ago that I loved. Maybe I’d like this blouse more if it were cut on the bias. Or perhaps it needs a long necklace to break up the checks a bit. I know I would struggle about deciding to buy it. I think I’d go for it in yellow and white.
I’m a huge fan of classics across the board so I give both outfits a thumbs up.

Love the combination. However, in Texas too hot to wear a blouse and then have to add a cami.
Dont care for the tuck look. Leave that for the young girls. Like a classic look.

  16. Nancy Walden

I like the blouse! My white pants are ankle-length leggings so I would pair it with black pants and a matching cami.

    May 2, 2020 / 9:26 am

Oh yes! A very sweet look. I probably would wear it with a cami also.
    No, to the gingham top.
I have 2 pairs of the plastic birks, they are more supportive than most flip flops.
But your toes have to sit in the floor of the shoe.
They wash well in the washing machine

    May 2, 2020 / 9:20 am

I would not wear the gingham. It is lovely but so not me. The sheer I would wear with white or black cami. It would look great with a maxi or midi white skirt also. Dress up or down with shoes, flip flops or dress sandles. Silver large hoops and a silver necklace.

  20. Cindy
    May 2, 2020 / 9:17 am

Love this outfit, even the way it’s tucked in the front. Like Cyndi, I’d love a lesson in how to wear a shirt tucked in.

Yes! I would wear this but probably with a black tank under it. I like a touch of sheer!

  22. Penny L. Luckenbaugh
    May 2, 2020 / 8:20 am

Yea, I would- with a tank or cami. I would pair it with either black pants or a straight black silk skirt I have, No tuck in, tho.
Silver jewelry and maybe sandals in a hot pink or bright blue- just to liven things up.
This would be a great evening out choice- and won’t it be wonderful when we have those again.

  23. Karen Young
    May 2, 2020 / 8:12 am

I would wear the sheer with either a black cami or black bra depending on how sheer it looks when on me. White longer shorts for my desert climate and casual lifestyle. Big silver hoop earrings and any colorful unpatterned flip flops. Big checks are too eye-grabbing for me and summer temps too high.

  24. Julie
    May 2, 2020 / 8:03 am

This outfit is definitely something I would wear. It’s simple. The top is more flattering for my “thick” waist. You can add some color with earrings & sandals…accessories.

  25. Carolyn
    May 2, 2020 / 7:46 am

Yes! Yes! Yes! Love this look. I’d wear it in a second but I wouldn’t do that tuck in look.
I’d definitely wear a black or white tank under it. I’d even wear it with white jeans.
Thanks to you and Pam for doing these posts since I know you don’t go out and it’s not as easy now.

I love this look and would wear with a tank or cami. I also think the blouse would look great with a pair of ankle length jeans and black ballet flats. I have three pair of waterproof Birks and love them! They can be worn anywhere and I also wear them around the house in the summer. They offer good support for my aging feet.

    May 2, 2020 / 7:29 am

I normally don’t wear sheer but if it has a pattern like this I feel more comfortable wearing it with a cami. I would love to have the gingham but I prefer traditional blue and white instead of black and white. I might go for a pink though. I like the style a lot.

I found a black and white gingham checked top almost identical to the featured Talbots one at Walmart yesterday. On clearance for $3! Certainly not Talbots quality but nice enough. Several other fun styles for same price.

    May 2, 2020 / 7:05 am

I love love love this look, both tops are darling and the sheer top could be worn year round – as another Cyndi described. I’ve always loved gingham. I love the tucked look but It never seems to look right. Jen maybe you could do a tutorial on different ways to do it? I would probably wear these with white jeans instead of the dressier pants.

  32. Cyndi
    May 2, 2020 / 6:56 am

I really like this blouse! With the white pants and the white cami underneath, then in colder weather, with black. Topped with a red cardi or blazer…soooo many possibilities!

  33. Bab
    May 2, 2020 / 6:55 am

Nice outfit and would wear a white cami under the blouse. I usually shy away from white pants – seems I can get a spot on them just sitting alone in a room. The gingham top is cute but the check is too large for me.
We are ready to break out of the house here. Can’t wait to see my hair stylist as this girl needs a hair cut!
    Have are great day.

  34. Holly
    May 2, 2020 / 6:51 am

Yes, love everything about this outfit. The blouse would also look great with black pants. In Winter I would wear my red wool coat over it. You could wear the blouse with red pants & a black blazer, the possibilities are many.

I have a top similar to this in silk in my summer colors, soft pink, mink brown pattern. I wear it with high waisted, wide leg jeans, tucked in, as I’m pear shaped. As a summer, I don’t wear black often. The pants look very classic, but I would have to try them on, as pear shapes have a hard time with certain rises.

You’ve hit the jackpot with this outfit. LOVE IT. I’d wear a white or back cami underneath. The color combo of black and white is a favorite of mine.

I love this outfit and can see myself wearing it with a black cami underneath the blouse. But I don’t get the little tuck in front. What’s with all the half tucking? it is not a flattering look, at least on normal bodies.

  40. Rose

Love everything about this outfit. With some cute sandals you’d be all set. Also liked the gingham top.

    May 2, 2020 / 6:07 am

Love this top! I’d wear it just as in with white cami and white pants or a skirt!

I’d also switch it up with black cami and black pencil skirt with black pumps!

It would also look few at with jeans.

  42. Audrey

As a petite “senior” lady I would wear this black and white outfit. I like outfits that don’t over whelm me, but give a more taylored look.

  43. Diane B
    May 2, 2020 / 6:05 am

I like the look today, but I don’t wear black anymore and white pants have never been a good look on me unless it is all white. I do have polka dot tops like that in navy and lighter blue and love them with a nude cami under them. The pants would be good for me if they were grey or blue instead, so I guess I would look to the outfit for inspiration and not actual outfit itself. Thanks for keeping up the diversion for us Jennifer. Stay well.

I would definitely try this one on if I saw it in a store. With a black tank underneath the top would not look quite so sheer and the fit is flattering. I always say I need a good pair of white pants but then I spill coffee on myself and I have to re-think it.

  45. Cathy Cunningham
    May 2, 2020 / 5:51 am

  46. Mary K
    May 2, 2020 / 5:46 am

Yes, I like the pairing of polka dot top (especially like the balloon sleeves which could be pushed up for warmer weather). The only change I would make would be a navy/white dot top as black is too harsh for my skin tone. Would definitely wear a tank of navy or white. Love the white pants with the overall look, tho I could also see wearing navy slim pants for a longer vertical look. Finishing touch would be white or silver earrings and white or navy sandals!

Love this black/white outfit! Have something in my closet which is very much like that, although like most of the commenters here, would choose a cami to wear underneath it. White jeans are my summer “uniform”!

I love my waterproof Birkenstocks(call them (birkencrocs). This is my third summer to wear them to garden, to the pool/beach, around the house. They are comfortable and have some arch support.
I agree with previous comments. The shirt and pants are a cute summer go to, light, airy, flattering without being too revealing.

I would this top with a cami of some sort under it. Miss Linda GR has the right idea…nude, white or black. The white pants are perfect and I would wear sandals or flats. No heels for this old gal since I just fell in our driveway last week. Gotta have a firm footing! Enjoy your weekend. xoxo

Yes, I would wear this outfit, and like someone has already mentioned, smallish prints can be flattering, sometimes more so than solids. I love cool crisp white pants, white jeans or white Bermuda shorts. So classic and cool.
At first I thought the blouse needed a dressier pant, but then took another look, and I definitely like this! I’d wear a grey or black cami beneath, certainly. It’s a YES from me……

I love the outfit…the top would have to have a tank or cami under it and I wouldn’t do the little tuck in the front although I know it’s very stylish. I’d wear with either a sandal or black slip on, a birdie or Skechers go walk.

I would definitely wear this outfit. I find that sometimes a print top is more forgiving to my shape than a solid color. And I did read somewhere that you should buy your white pants a size larger than your normal size. I would like a white or grey tank under the top and a neutral sandal would work. The outfit projects a classy, confident look that would be easy to pull off.
Have a great weekend ladies! 🌷🌸

I would wear bot black and white tops and the pants. This is very much how I dress. With the sheer polka dot top I would wear a cami either white or black. I’m considering the white Birkenstock’s. Just my choices…….

Yes I would definitely wear this whole outfit…as is..I would wear either black or white cami under the top ..and probably wear a pair of Black/white snakeskin kitten heels …I’m 77 so that’s as high as I can go now unfortunately….Love the outfit ..Thanx Jennifer for the inspiration….I have some silk HiLo style kaftans from Camilla and Silk Islands which would be stunning over top….

  59. Leslie

I would definitely wear this. I love black and white together and this look is my style. I would wear a white or black tank underneath the blouse. It’s pretty and age appropriate without being fussy. I feel like at my age fussy looks dated. Crisp and tailored are better for me and i think this look fits the bill.

  60. Leslie

I would definitely wear this whole outfit. I love the top. Of course I would wear a tank underneath, black or white depending on the color of pants I was wearing with it. I like white pants in the summer. They look crisp and cool and make me feel summery, if that makes sense.

  61. Gail Schwartz
