Casual Cotton and Linen Outfit

Happy Sunday ladies! Twin sets have been popular with the preppy set forever and I admit I am a fan. There’s just something so polished about a matching shell and cardigan but the traditional crew necklines aren’t my favorite. I do better with V-necklines.Jennifer Connolly of a well styled life wearing long linen sweater and brown pants

This is the same long linen cardigan I wore over a linen dress here. Today I’m styling it with a color-matched tee underneath. This is my nod to the twin set but in better proportions for me. Almost everything I’m wearing today is marked way down!

I love the comfort of this soft tee. It appears to be sold out in the seaglass color but there are so many in my store, I assume they will restock them on the website. I’m wearing an XS in regular, which I never wear so it runs large. The cotton has a really nice feel and the fit is comfy and loose for hot weather.

I tried tucking the tee in loosely but decided I prefer it out on me. It’s not too long (even in regular) to wear straight so in petite it would be even better. This handbag was a terrific purchase because I pull it out during all seasons and get a lot of use out of it. That’s one of the beauties of a classic handbag, it always works.woman wear J.Jill long linen sweater

These are the J.Jill long sea green sweater and brown pants from J.Jill

I  snapped up these sandals during a recent laundry supply trip to Target and am thrilled to find them pretty darn comfy. The straps come high enough up my foot to stay on securely without gripping my toes and they’re very flexible. These daisy earrings are more playful than I usually wear so I wasn’t sure how often I would wear them, but it turns out a lot. I love the cheery look for summer and they match my sweater perfectly. They’re handmade from an artist on Etsy and available in tons of color combinations.

I find J.Jill collections can be spotty. Sometimes they’re amazing and other times I wonder what they’re thinking. This is a particularly good one with soft colors and fabrics to mix and match that will keep you cool in the hot weather.

Very lovely, great colour on you and the purse is super cool. Greetings from Vancouver,BC

    1. Greetings Shirley! My daughter lives in Vancouver. Beautiful place

  2. The earrings are really fun and I too like the ‘sea glass’ colour (Canadian spelling, as opposed to color). So are twin sets making a comeback? Or are they still considered dated?

    1. I think they’re one of those classics that keep coming back, so if you love them, wear them!
I do know colour…I’m a Canadian living in California:))

  3. This is a winner of an outfit, Jennifer! I really like the sea glass color, the untucked V neck shirt, and the matching cardigan. I bought the shirt in a delicious raspberry color in medium – should have bought the small. You are right – it runs a little big. JJill has terrific light weight, tissue paper thin cardigans in all lengths. I have several of them and they are versatile. Happy 4th of July a week early!

A shout out to Jan, who described the color as “sea glass”; a perfect name for it and it is so becoming to you.

  5. Jennifer I love your outfit and that it is Jjill. I am a big fan and often order from Canada, dislike the difference in the dollar , shipping but usually not disappointed in the outfit!
Read you every morning, I am much taller and older but love what you wear and can relate to your comments! Thanks!

  6. Very pretty look that can be worn anywhere. I love the colors of the sea and sand and rocks. It just says, relax and take life easy. i love your summer hair look and those sunglasses.

  7. Lovely outfit that could work one anyone! I love that shade of blue too!

  8. I love that you are a Jill shopper. I’ve tried other fashion blogs but their links to clothes are usually way too pricey. And Jill has good sales regularly.
Lately Jill collections have not been good colors for me. This is lovely on you but I could not wear it. The style ,however, is very much my taste and comfort level.

    1. I like that J.Jill repeats successful shapes in varying colors each season. Some collections are awful on me and some are great!

      1. Exactly!

  9. I would never wear this long sweater in the summer. Just too hot where I live!

  10. These colors are very harmonious on you, and also sophisticated, lovely.

  11. I love the color combination!

  12. Love the color, I would wear it all. Not the earrings as I can only wear gold or silver and don’t go with large earrings.

  13. I love a sweater set, and usually have half a dozen in the closet, I don’t care how much I read that they’re dated. I feel good in them.

    1. We need to wear what we love no matter what’s “in”. We can update any look with tiny details and accessories.

  14. Just ordered the pants. They have a great drape.

Love this outfit on you! This is definitely my style. I agree, that you should have your slacks shortened to just at the ankle bone. I wish that the long linen cardi would come in brighter colours. None of the olours available would suit me , other than navy and black, which I already have. Would like something more fun for summer.

    1. Keep an eye out on their subsequent collections for brighter colors. They make this sweater all the time.

  16. The sea glass and mocha combination looks amazing! Also, the v neck T-shirt and long cardi help create that look of a longer torso. I can see myself wearing this entire outfit with the exception of the cute earrings. I don’t have pierced ears so I might add a long, light weight necklace. I would also wear the T-shirt untucked. I like to wear clothing that doesn’t require constant readjustment after sitting and standing. Yes and yes to the cotton and linen fabrics!

    1. I agree with Jan on everything.
      Have a blessed day everyone!

    2. That’s why I prefer it untucked too. Plus it’s just easier and I’m all about ease this summer

  17. Awesome Colours, love the combination. Love your Blog

  18. Those colors look great on you! Is your cardigan a regular or petite? If I get a cardigan too long it just looks awful. Yours looks just right.

  19. Great outfit and a very sophisticated colour combination. I love linen and although not a fan of twin sets, have embraced the longer duster cardigans over a simple v neck top.

  20. I have a couple of JJill long sweaters that are great. Love your outfit and the pants I also wear those.

  21. Love this color and I have several of the J Jill long cardigans…may have to add another color to my collection.

  22. Beautiful outfit. I love the colours.
