Would You Wear It- Cropped Cardigan

Would You Wear It- Cropped Cardigan

I want to thank you all for your support and positive feedback on yesterday’s post. I wasn’t sure how it would be received, and am humbled by your supportive comments. I am so grateful for this community! You ladies are the best! Thank you.

Happy Saturday and welcome to your weekend! It’s time for would you wear it with my friend Pam. Each week we share a mannequin we’ve found and ask our readers to weigh in on what it’s wearing. We know stores dress their mannequins to show us new merchandise and give us styling ideas so we want to know what you think.

Please share if it fits your shape and lifestyle. Then tell us how you might style it differently! Remember to be kind because if it’s not your style it will be another woman’s style.

So tell me, ladies, would you wear it?

How could you make it work for you?

And as always, here are a few…

Weekend sale updates

This is the first mannequin post I’ve ever looked at and thought “Ooo….I like that one.” So cute with the tight jeans, the colorful coat and the shorter sweater. I’d wear it FOR SURE.

I cannot understand all the positive comments! I would not wear a tee shirt of any length that pokes out in the front like that one, and it ripples at the neckline! And the cardigan looks shrunken with the front edges drawn up shorter than the rest of the sweater. Looks like both stayed too long in the dryer. The cardigan is beautiful and I would definitely wear it, if it isn’t too long. Too long makes me feel shorter than I am.

The comments are by women who like it. It’s good to know what you like so you can dress in things that make you feel happy and confident.

I really like this outfit. It’s comfortable, casual and chic. I don’t care for short tees on me, but would substitute that with a tucked in tee. I have a very similar cardi and black jeans. I never thought of wearing them with a colored coat. I could easily wear this look with the long pink or blue coat I already have. Thanks for the inspiration!

I love the coat because the bright color is a welcome break from the usual blacks & grays we see in winter. It would be a bright spot on a gloomy day. I like the shorter cardigan & the jeans. I would change the white tee under the cardigan to something that could be tucked into the jeans. I don’t like the idea of showing my midsection should I be reaching for something.

  5. October 19, 2019 / 3:40 pm

I love the coat. The cut of it and the color are so nice, and the fabric looks warm but not overly thick and bulky. My body is too wide for that length and weave of sweater so I would leave it out and just wear the coat and the blouse that is under the sweater. I would like jeans that were longer.

love the outfit. Coat color brilliant. I may change the tee and cardigan colors but not sure, Yes to trying out jewerley with the outfit.

I enjoyed the blog yesterday re the info on blogging. opened my eyes and made me appreciate you evenmore.

Love the coat! Unfortunately, in Florida there is not much opportunity to wear coats and that is not necessarily a bad thing. The color would be great in a vest. The sweater would not work with my tummy but I would definitely wear the jeans.

Love this, but it would hv to be in different colors. That pink would wipe me out

I love every piece. I gave just discovered that wearing a short cardigan or jacket works for me even being short at 5’3″ if you have the short over long look like this. The longer tee or seater underneath keeps the long line going, I probably wouldn’t buy a long coat, no use for one in my climate but the pop of pink will work even with a shorter coat. It’s all about proportion for me.

    October 19, 2019 / 11:19 am

Oh wow! This ensemble is gorgeous!

I love the pink jacket atop the layers of neutral. Well done.

While the individual pieces might not work for everyone, I imagine there is way to make this look work for just about anyone with a bit of tweaking.

One of the best Saturday posts for sure!

I love the pink coat! I would wear the jeans and maybe the cardigan in another colour. Beige does me no favours. I’m fine with the length of the sweater, but not sure about the pockets. I usually wear an XS and since I’m on the tall side, the pockets could end up sitting high on my chest, which would not be attractive, especially since I tend to stick kleenex in my pockets (chronic allergies).

On the right figure, yes. For myself no. I like the high rise skinny jeans. I would like to see you post items for a plus size figure. I enjoy seeing the styles you put together for mature women.

    October 19, 2019 / 10:54 am

I love the high rise skinny pants! For my body shape, I wish the cardigan was longer, but the color is great. AND….what’s not to like about a pink coat!!

Love this blog. This is the first one that I’ve ever followed, and I look forward to checking it out daily.

    October 19, 2019 / 10:51 am

I like the overall look and all the pieces! And, I’m really liking the higher waist trend in pants. Muffin tops weren’t flattering for any age or body type and seeing cracks in public when people sat down…oh.my.goodness

Meant to type pizzazz, not pizzas?‍♀️

  16. Deborah Lilly
    October 19, 2019 / 10:37 am

I love the look, especially the pizzas the coat gives it. The cropped tops are not a good look for me, so I would look better in a longer tee and sweater (hip length). I’m not a fan of skinny jeans, so would look for a straight cut style.

  17. Cathy Cunningham
    October 19, 2019 / 10:32 am

Love the total look. Especially set off by the pink coat. I love it! ❤️

    October 19, 2019 / 10:05 am

    Absolutely! Yes! I love it!

  19. October 19, 2019 / 8:58 am

I also love the pink coat! I would wear everything here, but the cropped cardigan. It draw the eye right where I do not want it. But I love the pink coat with the skinny jean.

  20. Joanna
    October 19, 2019 / 8:50 am

I love the bright pink coat! The white stitching on the black jeans bothers me so they are a No. Being tall (5’8”) the cropped tee and shrunken sweater would not work for my body, plus the colours are not flattering on me.

  21. Maurine
    October 19, 2019 / 8:38 am

love the pop of color in the coat and the overall color combination. However, I would not buy this cardigan for two reasons: the waist length and the boxy shape. It might work paired with a longer top underneath although now a days I prefer to purchase things that offer more flexibility and I’m afraid this would hang in the closet more than it would be worn.

  22. MRSBEN2
    October 19, 2019 / 8:31 am

As a fan of shrugs, a definite yay for cropped cardigans. As for the display; with the exception of the white t-shirt (prefer something with a pattern and different neckline or even a different color like in a deep burgundy), I certainly would wear all pieces. The type of footwear would depend upon the weather. (i.e.: Leather versus suede/nubuck and shoes/loafers versus boots. Our October temps are in the mid 50’s with lots of rain.) -Brenda-
P.S.: I have a dark gray and black leopard cotton-knit top that would look marvelous with it but due to its length would wear it tucked in and would add my favourite pewter colored, leather belt to the jeans.

    October 19, 2019 / 8:27 am

As a pear shape, I am moving away from skinny jeans and towards the looser high waisted pants, or dresses. The sweater pocket placement on the waist makes it a no for me, but the shorter length I like. I prefer a narrow waisted ribbing for less bulk at the waist. I have bought a loose wool coat like the one shown, last year, in blue. I like the light weight of wool. Many lined wool blend coats are too heavy and bulky, for my frame, and our winters are milder, so not needed. I will wear my blue coat with wide, longer, high waisted pants, flat booties, and a Breton stripe merino turtleneck tucked in, scarf, and cross body bag.

Very sophisticated. An unusual but very wearable mixture of colors. Taupe and pink and the black are great for the three seasons that this could be worn in Illinois. Love it!

  25. Phyllis
    October 19, 2019 / 7:51 am

Yes, I would wear it. I like a cropped cardigan because it makes my legs look longer. The widest part of my hips falls about three inches below my waist. If I hem my jacket or top to that length I find that my legs look longer and my tummy doesn’t look so big. It is the perfect length. That is important to me as I am 4’10”. I love the hot pink jacket. A pop of color near the face is always good.

      October 19, 2019 / 10:58 am

Yes I would wear it. Even with the coat off this is the look I like I myself. Great choices!

  26. Linda Lennon
    October 19, 2019 / 7:41 am

I have a long torso so that sweater would probably hit me too high. Like the black jeans. If I thought I would get any use out of the pretty pink coat I would buy it but now that I live in the desert, coats are seldom worn.

  27. Denise
    October 19, 2019 / 7:37 am

Love the outfit but I’d have to wear it with a little longer white T to cover the tummy.

  28. Jane
    October 19, 2019 / 7:22 am

I like the cropped sweater but would wear it with high waisted wide leg jeans. I think it makes your legs look longer if you can see more of them. The coat is amazing, that would make any day happier just wearing it.

    October 19, 2019 / 7:11 am

    That color! Love!

The length of this cardigan is perfect for me with my triangle shape and tallish height. I love blazers, but mostly they don’t suit my casual lifestyle. This, however, elevates casual without sacrificing comfort. The color makes it a home run.

  30. Janet
    October 19, 2019 / 7:08 am

I would definitely wear it! I like to play with lengths and proportions, and my go-to outfit in the fall and summer is a cropped cardigan over a long tunic and skinny pants.

  31. October 19, 2019 / 6:58 am

I am not a fan of button-down cardigans but I have to say that now with the higher waist pants I kind of like a more cropped look. The only thing that isn’t large on my body is my waist so it isn’t a bad look for me.
    Always enjoy these posts!

    October 19, 2019 / 6:55 am

The outfit is very nice and I do like it…..but just not for me!! I’m too short and thick thru the middle, so I always feel anything cropped kind of cuts me in half!!

  33. Nancy J
    October 19, 2019 / 6:53 am

Yes! Love anything cropped. I’m 5’ and short waisted and have great difficulty creating the ideal 1/3- 2/3 proportions with separates, which are the mainstay of my wardrobe. I find cropped sweaters work so much better with my shape. They are great for layering over a longer top or blouse as a third piece. This outfit on display is very attractive!

    October 19, 2019 / 6:33 am

Yes..not a bizarre as many of the posts.

  35. Mary Wilson
    October 19, 2019 / 6:26 am

Yes, I would wear this look without the cropped sweater. In fact wore it yesterday with a light lavender long jacket (from spring last year) over a burgundy top and skinny jeans. My tummy is too big for a cropped anything lol. Love a pop of color over neutrals especially in winter.

  36. RoseAG
    October 19, 2019 / 6:23 am

    It’s a cute outfit.
In keeping with the “do you like the display” question from Pam I’m going to say that a gal with long jeans, a sweater and a coat probably needs to not be barefoot. I never wear a coat over my shoulders like that, but it does look chic. I guess the woman is someone who doesn’t need to carry packages and will slip into a Uber from beneath an entrance canopy.

I like sweaters that length. I can’t do top of thigh tops, so it’s better for me if things end higher up.

  37. Theresa
    October 19, 2019 / 6:18 am

I would definitely wear it with some teaks for me. The coat would have to go. I love the hot pink color but it along with the tee & sweater would be to much bulk for me as I am petite. I am glad to see the return of a shorter sweater. The long ones that have been in style are great for added warmth in our cold winter climate but again as I am on the shorter side they make me appear even more so. I would choose a different color though for either the sweater or the top. The pale top & neutral sweater would not look good against my pale skin. I would choose a brighter color for one. The jeans are a mix for me. The high waist on them are a win as I dislike having to pull them up every time I bend over. However I don’t care for the length I prefer ones that cover the top of my shoes like a boot cut. I would also add a long necklace to add some visual interest to the front.

  38. Audrey Storms
    October 19, 2019 / 5:54 am

Love the colors. I am short, but think I could wear the various garments.

  39. Robi
    October 19, 2019 / 5:45 am

It’s the perfect color for me, so I’d wear it in a heartbeat! I’d restyle with stright-leg vs skinny slacks, and would wear my bright pink pumps and add a touch of silver jewlery.

  40. Michele
    October 19, 2019 / 5:38 am

I have never considered a coat part of my outfit. You put it on when you leave the house and take it off when you arrive at your destination. A coat is worn in my area for warmth so it would be buttoned or zipped against the elements. Which means what is worn underneath becomes insignificant. Once the coat is taken off, then your outfit becomes your fashion statement. So for me, my pop of color for this outfit would come with the cardigan. This one is a little too cropped for me. I don’t want to emphasize my waist. Dark skinny bottoms, neutral blouse or top, with a bright cardigan would be right up my alley. If all three pieces were solid colors, I would add a scarf or jewelry for interest.

  41. Norma
    October 19, 2019 / 5:30 am

Yes I would wear this. I definitely like the cropped cardigan, being short waisted I think it’s a better look for me. Love the pink coat!

  42. Mary
    October 19, 2019 / 5:13 am

This outfit is something I would wear with minor tweaks. The pink coat is cute, however it would be fab in navy. I don’t like the contrast stitching on the jeans. Add a colorful scarf, black crossbody and black booties and I’m out the door. Happy Saturday.

    • Lois Williams
      October 19, 2019 / 9:05 am

Love the coat, color & length. I’d wear straight leg jeans rather than skinny. I’m afraid the sweater would not do me any favors. At 5’11” that cropped style just looks like I’m wearing the wrong size. I think perhaps someone very slender & younger at my height could pull it off. Since I’ve lost some weight I find sweaters that hit me at the hip bone look the best…donated all the tunics I used to hide in ?

  43. PatB
    October 19, 2019 / 5:03 am

Love this, especially the Pink Coat. I am determined to buy a bright coloured coat this winter. In Canada, the winter lasted so long and I wore my black coat with coloured scarfs and hats.

  44. Linda
    October 19, 2019 / 4:55 am

I’d wear the sweater and the jacket, however the tee is to short for my taste and I’m not overly fond of skinny Jean’s. I would pick a darker shade for the sweater, if available, as I find it complements my skin tones better than the lighter shades. Love the color of the jacket.

  45. October 19, 2019 / 4:53 am

I love the color of the coat! I wear this color all the time! I love the jeans also. I don’t wear cropped sweaters because of my belly! lol. unfortunately, living in Florida precludes buying a lot of jackets or coats! I am dying for an animal print coat but I cannot justify the expense. When would I wear it??? one day a year! have you run across any lightweight animal print sweaters or jackets I could wear here??

  46. Diane B
    October 19, 2019 / 4:35 am

Oh yes, I would wear it. I love the pink coat, so much in fact that just on Thursday I did buy a pink jacket. I wanted something that would cheer me up on cold days and be a change from my grey and black coats. I also like the short cardigan and have a few of that length as well. I am not dressing to look slimmer or taller anymore, just dressing to feel good and look the best me I can. The only change I would make would be to have a lower neckline on the top. I like a higher waist line on pants so when I bend over or sit down I am not worrying about what is showing. Great looks.

  47. Rita
    October 19, 2019 / 4:35 am

I would definitely wear this look! Love the pop of color with the coat and love the cropped sweater. I am petite and the cropped style works for me. This look would be great for shopping as well as dropping off and picking up grandsons from school!

  48. Roxanne
    October 19, 2019 / 4:32 am

I love this outfit! The pink coat is fabulous!! On a cold, dreary day why not wear a bright pop of color? Love the jeans and cropped sweater, although I would prefer a different color for the sweater. With my blonde hair and pale skin, I would look washed out. I truly am swooning over that coat!!

  49. Laurie
    October 19, 2019 / 4:31 am

Love, love, love the coat! I don’t usually wear short cardigans, except with skirts or dresses. I might like it with a longer blouse as someone suggested. Banana Republic has some really great pieces this season.

    • Susan Gowan
      October 19, 2019 / 7:11 pm

I love the pink coat and also the skinny black jeans. Definitely would wear these two items. Not crazy about the neutrals but that is just me. Would consider a jazzy tip of black and white or beige and black with a black or hot pink sweater. I do like the look!

  50. Ellen
    October 19, 2019 / 4:24 am

I love the outfit. The colors, the cropped cardigan, the beautiful pink coat, the cropped skinny jeans…but.
My fat stomach. *Would* I wear it? In a just world, you
betcha. Trapped in a body with a mutant pooch of a midsection, I must sadly forgo this great look.

  51. Laura Jane
    October 19, 2019 / 4:16 am

I love the whole outfit! I like the short length and the v-neck of the sweater, which is flattering on my hourglass shape. I love the color of the coat with the neutral sweater and jeans. I can think of so many different ways to wear the individual pieces. I work in an office with a casual dress code, so this outfit would be a good everyday choice for me.

I really enjoy reading your blog, Jennifer. Its one of the few I follow regularly.

  52. Leslie
    October 19, 2019 / 4:12 am

I like the cropped sweater. I have so many long sweaters that I’m becoming tired of them. Sometimes it’s nice to have something in your closet that kind of changes things up a bit. I may even wear it over a longer shirt. I never would have done that years ago but short over long seems to work nowadays. Also being a petite woman I don’t think the cropped sweater would be as short on me as on some others.

  53. Sondra
    October 19, 2019 / 4:12 am

Yes, I would definitely wear this outfit! The whole shebang!! Love the color of that coat and I think that is what makes this outfit look so great! Even without the coat, this is right up my alley for a casual, comfy look.

  54. Jood
    October 19, 2019 / 4:11 am

I love all of it, especially the pink coat. The link for that doesn’t work for me here in the UK though.

  55. Teresa Landers
    October 19, 2019 / 4:10 am

Absolutely. As shown, with a nice scarf for some pizzazz. At 5’7” with a longer torso and short arms a legs, a top no longer than high hip is ideal. All the “cover the bum” tops out there just make my fashion life harder.

    • Sharon
      October 19, 2019 / 5:50 am

I agree with you. I also have a long torso and short legs and prefer cropped sweater look, it makes my legs look longer. The “cover the bum” tops don’t do anything for my 5’6 frame.

  56. Linda Todd
    October 19, 2019 / 3:54 am

NO …..when a girl has a thick waist, drawing the eye to that area is a huge NO. I love the pink jacket, but worry the colour would reduce its wearability for me. I only invest in neutral colours for garments like that. I need to be able to get a lot of wear for my $s.

  57. Cindy
    October 19, 2019 / 3:53 am

I’d definitely wear this! It gets cold where I live so I like sweaters. The crop sweater is great & the pop of color with the pink coat is fabulous!

  58. October 19, 2019 / 3:41 am

I love this outfit. From the skinny jeans to the bright coat, this works! With the coat off, I can see myself with the tee and shorter cardi. This is a go-to look for me almost any day but my yoga days……
Because most of the outfit is neutral, neutral, neutral I just love the pop of color the coat brings….that’s what I don’t have in my closet! Need to go shopping!
