This week’s dressing room diary is in one of my readers’ favorite stores. Most of Loft’s clothes are available in regular and petite with a smaller amount in plus and tall size. Loft is having an amazing sale right now so it’s a great time to shop. Dressing Room Diaries is when I go into a store and try on new merchandise so you can see how they look on a woman over 25 and larger than a size zero. I’m not shopping for me, although I do occasionally find some goodies that are too good to pass up.
One of the takeaways from this post is; don’t limit yourself to one size category because a better fit may be in another group. For reference, I’m 5’4″ and 143+ pounds. I have an inverted triangle silhouette with broad shoulders and straight hips. Here we go…
These faux suede pants are intended to be a slim fit, but this is one size too large for me. They’re also available in petite. I prefer this length pant on one that has a straight leg. They fit well and are soft as butter. I gravitated to this sweater because of the bobbles. It fits true to size and is also available in a warm camel. I’m wearing a regular medium.
These cords are super soft and stretchy, available in tons of colors. I’m wearing a 10 regular above and a 10 petite below. The petite has a much narrower leg so I prefer the regular for me. The sweater has a nice marled texture and is longer in the back so it would be great over skinny pants or leggings. I’m wearing a medium in regular so it fits true to size.
Here’s the same sweater in large, regular which swims on me. It also comes in a sunny yellow color. Chunky sweaters are on-trend this fall and since this one is mostly cotton, it’s not heavy and won’t feel as hot as wool.
This long pocket cardigan is so classic. It’s available in regular, petite and plus. This is the emerald color and it also comes in pale gray or black. As I look at this picture, I wonder why it didn’t come home with me. I’m wearing a regular in medium and like this length. It runs true to size.
A great little knit dress that could dress up or be worn with black tights, flat booties, and a denim jacket. It’s machine washable and available in regular, petite, and tall. This is a medium in regular so it fits true to size. I’d choose the regular because I have a long torso and the shaping hits my waist at the correct spot.
I love this classic coat. Its styling is timeless and looks very polished. I’m wearing a medium in regular on the left and it swamps me. The petite medium on the right is a perfect fit so it runs a little large. It’s also available in plus.
This is the year of the sweater duster and Loft has some great ones. The color is deep charcoal which I don’t think has been uploaded to their website yet. I linked it to the duster in other colors. I’m wearing a regular in medium and love the dramatic length. It’s a bit big on me so it runs large. These leggings are not my favorite in this pale color. The length is right in the 10 petite, but the thighs are too snug on me. I’d prefer the 10 regular which has is slightly fuller through the thighs and still maintains a high rise. The sweater is really soft, comes in 4 colors, and is lower hip length on me in regular.
These skinny pants fit really well. They’re a slightly heavier weight with lots of stretch and available in modern (straight) or curvy cut. They’re cotton, polyester, and spandex. I’m not into utility anything but they call this a utility blouse. Go figure. It’s the prettiest shade of blush. I’m wearing a regular in a medium so it runs true to size. The long blazer is too long on me in this small regular, so based on the sleeve length I would be better in the petite and go up to a 6. This is way too snug on me. Long blazers are on-trend this fall and not just for the tall ladies amoung us.
This chenille sweater is super soft and cozy. It’s chunky cropped style is very popular this fall. I’m wearing a regular medium so with my long torso, I wouldn’t even consider the petite for me. This is a soft green and it’s also available in a vibrant grape color. The jeans came home with me, which is saying a lot because I seldom buy jeans on my first trip. They have the same great fit as all Loft pants but they’re made from 7% certified recycled polyester (equivalent to two recycled plastic bottles*!) Imagine that, helping the planet and great jeans. I’m wearing a 10 petite.
I’m seeing more and more shoes, and garments made from recycled plastic bottles which is a wonderful idea. I have one pair of shoes made from it and a pair of booties on the way to me.
Have you bought clothes or shoes made from recycled plastic?
Thanks for reading and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.
