Casual Look for New Years Eve
Are you going out for New Year’s Eve? We seldom do and if we do, the dress code is very casual. To be honest, I often ring in the new year wearing a robe and slippers. It’s a nice robe but there are no accessories involved so it’s not overly inspiring.
Today I’m joining two of my favorite bloggers today to bring you our take on a New Year’s Eve outfit. Real clothes:)
I met
Everyone’s New Year’s Eve is different but we usually stay pretty close to home which means dressed up casual. A little texture, subtle sheen, and low key sparkle work for my relaxed lifestyle.
This velvet jacket gets a lot of wear this time of year. Over Thanksgiving, I dressed it way down with chambray and denim. Today I’m bumping it up a notch, but it’s still casual.
Velvet Blazers
My dressed up casual usually starts with dark denim but I decided to add a bit more attitude with these faux leather pants. They’re described as a python foil print but are a ponte knit that looks like snakeskin. They’re super stretchy and comfy. I tried them on in petite here, but they would have been too short to cover boots, so I opted for the regular length.
I chose these suede ankle boots with a pointed toe to elongate the look of my legs. These have a higher shaft so stay slipped under the leg. I hate when pants get caught on the top of ankle boots. It just feels awkward and I don’t like having to fuss with my clothes. I went up a half size in these boots so I could add this comfort shoe insole for extra padding.
Faux Leather Pants
I’ve had this sweater tank for years, and bring it out each holiday season.
It has gunmetal colored paillettes sprinkled on the front, so I decided to skip a necklace. Just a pin and earrings felt right to me. I remembered these sparklers I spotted this week and wished I’d bought them. In the end, I wore my grandmother’s Austrian crystal earrings and a feather pin (similar but a bit poofier) on my lapel.
A crossbody/shoulder bag is always helpful at holiday gatherings so your hands are free to hold a drink or nosh goodies.

Thanks for reading and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.
Love your outfit! For New year’s we usually go out with friends for an early dinner and then watch Rockin New Year’s Eve!
Jennifer you look amazing ! You really suit the dark blue. My hubby and I stay in now on Nee Year’s Eve. We have a special supper and wine and I usually wear a lounging outfit that is very comfortable. Being from England I have my husband bring in the New Year by stepping outside then coming back in. I bang a couple of pots together too. I don’t know where that tradition came from! Does anyone from England do that? Happy Holiday to you and family!
Happy holidays Mollie!!
This is it! This is a look I love. I have a cream sweater with little metallic threads and wine pants. I would love to find a velvet jacket in wine. You look beautiful as always. Such a rich blue and perfect for you.
This is so perfect for New Years Eve. Loving that embellished top!
jennifer, I love this outfit as a whole but also all the individual pieces. You look wonderful!
Thanks, Joanna! Having the right pieces in your wardrobe makes all the difference:)
Love that outfit top to bottom! Have a wonderful 2020!
Thanks, Happy New Year!
Fantastic look for you Jennifer…very classy! We may be babysitting for the grands, but your outfit would be perfect if I was going out!
Babysitting the grands is great fun!
I love your look, Jennifer! You look great and so stylish!
Thanks, Tania…so do you. Those shoes:)
You look fabulous!
Jennifer, you look amazing! Comfy pj’s are tempting for New Year Eve but you look so pretty that your hubs needs to take you out and show you off.
You’re sweet Donna! Lol, I’ll tell him you said that;)
You look great in that outfit! I bet that top is Eileen Fisher. Am I right? The jacket is so nice also. EF has the best velvet. I bought a short sleeve velvet top last year that has some spandex in the material. Great for gals with larger busts.
Thanks Linda. You’re right. The top is EF as well as the jacket. Her things are investment pieces I wear for years and years.
Hi! How old is too old to ear faux leather pants? I’m 72 with good legs and wear leggings all the time with longer tops. What is your opinion?

You’re not too old if you like them and have the legs to wear them. There are no rules except the ones you make. If you feel they look too young on you, you won’t feel confident in them.
You look amazing in that outfit! I love those pants!
Thanks Lori. They’re as comfy as pj’s:)
you look so gorgeous in that dress and your hair has got much more volume in the last time…
Enjoy N.Y.eve wherever you are .
