Uniform Dressing For Fall

Happy Wednesday ladies. Do you have a uniform look you reach for again and again? I do because when I find an outfit that’s easy to wear and fits my life and style, I’ll wear it until the pieces need to be replaced or I want it in other colors. Today’s outfit is just that…a look I reach for often because it’s exactly how I love to look.

Thank you to jennifer connolly of a well styled life wearing halogen cashmere cardigan

One of my go-to looks for fall and winter is jeans, a nice top, and a cardigan.

I also love a cashmere pullover, but this Halogen cardigan gives me versatility for varying temperatures. It’s super soft and cozy, available in petite or regular in several pretty colors. I’m wearing a S in regular. Halogen is an in house brand available only at Nordstrom that has affordable wardrobe essentials combining trends, and timeless, clean styling. I zero in on Halogen cashmere every year at the Nsale because the price can’t be beaten and the quality is wonderful.

  1. Hi,
I’m late on commenting because I just saw this. Your post reminded me of a YouTuber named Carolyn Chebaro. The ones I watched were about uniform dressing. Once it cools down my uniform for work and play is going to a white shirt of some kind and a top layer such as; cardigans, blazers, utility jacket and jean jacket. I may substitute a black shirt in for the white. Right now the only uniform I have is the one that will keep mosquitoes away.

  2. I will be soooo happy when the Nordstrom Sale ends and all the hype stops. This Sale is great if you are in the USA and beyond disappointing if you live in Canada. There are only a few physical stores which would be fine if their online Sale was good. Sadly Nordstrom does not see fit to offer the same items on nordstrom.ca as they offer on nordstrom.com. (e.g..Just one example of many….Vince sweaters are not part of the NSale on .ca) I will be willing to support Nordstrom when they value my business enough to offer me the same goods.

That’s my go to look for much of the year as well… jeans, top, and cardigan. Your long grey cardigan looks lovely. I have one, but it’s very heavy. I’d like to replace it with something lighter weight but still cozy.

  4. I am so ready for this California heatwave to go away. Then I’ll think about fall clothes,

You look great in your “uniform” so classic.
I prefer a shirt to a t shirt since my muffin top won’t disappear.
    Love,love the grey long cardigan

  6. Since the lock down, I wear more elastic waist, knit pants than jeans. Not exactly stylish but comfortable around the house. Top them with a big shirt. I wear jeans when I go out and usually a blouse with some detail. Summer is just tricky because it’s too hot for a third layer. I love your cardigan but not sure about the top. It looks like it might be thin so you need something under it.

Love those jeans and blouse! I wear long sweaters . They give a longer taller look.

  8. My go-to look is much the same! I love the barely-colored ‘Authentic fit’ slim jeans from JJill. The waist is just high enough, the Tall length works perfectly for me, and the fit is great. They run a little large, so it’s good for me mentally, too, HA! I’ll wear them with a soft, solid (any color) tee and my sweaters tend to be cotton ones. I love the feel of a sumptuous cotton sweater. Bravo for embracing long sweaters! The cashmere sounds perfect, too.

I love tees with jean jackets and either leggings or slim straight Jean or pant. I do have two longish cardi toppers like yours–pale beige and black. When the humidity vanishes I can wear those over my long sleeved or short sleeved tees.
You look great in your go-to! Love it….

  10. You do look great in this outfit. I love a long cardigan too- and I’m under 5’! It just has to be way below my hips- just above the knee or even better, midi length, or I look dumpy. Also, I look for the hemline to hang straight and not curve in, which gives a bubble-butt effect! I too am looking for jeans- I never wear skinnies because my legs are thick all the way down to my big ankles. With huge knees! ( really, jeans that fit – a 0 or 2 petite) sometimes don’t slide over the knee!) I’d love a high rise dark wash straight leg that isn’t tight. With no fading or whiskering. With narrowish hips for my pretty straight body. Jennifer, is this possible?

    1. Yes, That is absolutely possible! These are great fitting straight jean. I have both black and blue in this style. I have straight hips too so love that these fit!

  11. Love the long cardigan and those jeans. I’ve always thought I was too short to wear the longer length but I think if I keep everything streamlined under it it just might work!

  12. Love the way you look in this outfit. The sweater looks like a soft hug and the colour is so lovely on you. This is something I can see myself wearing well into the fall, just add a scarf for a bit of fun and good to go….wherever that might be besides groceries. Countdown is on for freedom for you two. Where will you go first?

    1. Good question…I am heading to the water to just breathe deeply…then probably on to Nordstrom and Sephora. We would love to go to Tofino but I’m not sure

  13. Patti Shannon says:

My winter uniform is jeans and a turtleneck…if I’m going someplace I might add a scarf or dramatic jewelry and a poncho or sweater if it’s really cold and I do love a long sweater. Or I may just wear a vest over it.

  14. Karen aagesen says:

Love the look on you, but at 5’1”, a long cardigan like that would overwhelm me. I love a short cardigan though!

  15. That is a great outfit – I love a long cardigan.
I stopped buying jeans when manufacturers were adding excessive stretch, but now I understand that has changed, so I am looking for straight leg jeans to wear this fall with a blazer and ankle boots.

    1. I agree, I am not fond of the tight look. As I live in south Texas I am always on the lookout for high rise and “light weight “ Jeans. I find I need to go up a size and then have them altered.

  16. Jennifer, love the “uniform” on you. Do you have a link for the sandals?

  17. That’s my uniform too, Jennifer! Your daughter was right to suggest those jeans. They look great on you!
