Tropical Flavors

Happy Thursday ladies. I’m following yesterday’s spring stripes with tropical fruit and flowers. I live in a 2, occasionally 3 season climate so our temps are hitting the 70’s these days. I’m not quite ready to swap my wardrobe around, but I’m heading to Mexico in a few weeks and in the mood for color. Today I’m styling a casual outfit with a Farm Rio tropical shirt.

As always, you can click the red text for more info and to shop the item at no additional cost to you.

I just discovered Farm Rio last week and I’m having a blast exploring the colorful line. FARM Rio will plant one tree for every product sold as a partner of the global reforestation nonprofit One Tree Planted. My mermaid skirt is on its way, and in the meantime, I decided to check out this linen shirt. It’s covered with exotic tropical fruits and flowers with wooden buttons that add to its rustic feel.

This stretch tank comes inĀ  3 colors, I’m wearing the rose quartz which picks up some of the colored fruit in the linen shirt. It has a high/low hemline you can wear long but I tucked mine in to help my legs look longer.

I have several Bare Mineral lipsticks and love the formula. It’s a mineral-infused vegan lipstick with minimal ingredients, lots of hydration, and richer color than regular lipstick. This one is ‘Joy’ which they describe as candy pink and is a great combo with the tank.

These track-style linen pants are a fun new shape this year. They have a cropped length (I’m wearing a medium in regular so they’re full length on me), and a tulip hem with a side slit. They come in 4 colors in petite and regular sizes XS-XXL.

These block heel slides have a low, stable heel and will dress up and down all spring/summer long.Ā I typically wear neutral toe polish but as I look at these pictures, my toes are screaming for a bright pink so I may have to switch things up before my trip to Mexico.

I’ve always found Farm Rio an interesting and fun line of clothing. The prints are outstanding but I have difficulties with the fit. The unisex shorts are so cute but swim on me. The women’s shorts are just that, way to short. The bust in the well designed dresses are way too small. Forget the swim suits as they seem to cater to youth. Forget their balloon pants. Wouldn’t it be nice if they sold their beautiful fabric by the yard then we can sew our own clothing (for those so talented (not me) or have them custom made for us?) The jacket is adorable on you! Wish I could wear black backgrounds but the color sadly fades me out. I’m still on the lookout for Farm Rio clothing that fits well and compliments my fair Norther Italian complexion. Such a challenge isn’t it?

    1. Being able to buy their fabric would be amazing!!

Well, this is interesting! I would put hot pink and/or denim with Farm Rio, but not together, for simplicity with bold prints. I absolutely love the collaboration between Adidas and Farm Rio, even Kohls carries reasonably priced T-shirt dresses and workout wear separates in fabulous prints to liven up your casual style. A little tropical or ethnic looking design absolutely feels classic to me, vacay appropriate and a great wardrobe staple for an effortless hot summer look or a tropical get-away capsule wardrobe! We can all use that???

  3. I am a big fan of Farm Rio. It satisfies my Boho tendencies. Of course, a little goes a long way, so I don’t overdo it. I will be in Mexico again next month, and I’m looking for some new things to take.

    1. Mexico is such a fun escape, I’m really looking forward to it. Where do you go?

      1. Loreto and La Paz this time.

      2. We will be in Loreto Bay. There are some great restaurants in downtown Loreto.

  4. Funny you should write about this today. I got the new Boden catalog, and it’s full of colorful prints. Outside my comfort zone, but I plan to buy something anyway b/c happiness! I looked at the skirt you bought: so cute and fun. Have a wonderful time!

  5. I love a bit of tropical in the spring and summer. Very nice outfit you are wearing!

  6. Fun and refreshing colors, Jennifer and do like Rio Farm products as recently purchased two items from them for myself even though I lean towards more classic dressing. (For casual wear the oversized Mixed Print Sweatshirt for early Spring and cool Summer nights and for a polished vibe the Vivacity Dolcezza Blouse for Summer.) Am currently in the search for bottoms however may just end up making them if I can’t find the style and colors I’d like.

    1. Ooops, that should have read Farm Rio …. lol!…. but while I am at it am going to add regardless that both were a tad pricey (in Cdn. $$$) the fabric itself was worth it as both items laundered well so should be easy wearing. -Brenda-

      1. Good fabric goes a long way in my book. You sound like a wonderful seamstress. I used to love to sew.

Love this look on you Jennifer! I bought a Farm Rio skirt last year and wear it often and get lots of compliments. Bring on colors !! Happy week:)

Well, since I rarely buy new clothes for trips or vacations, this is a revelation. Soft Surroundings has similarly styled clothing and I always wondered where would one wear them. Bright colors in the tropics make sense in some places. But, alas, not for me as I would not wear the items in daily life. Tucked in shirts with drawn string pants are not in my closet, tropical or otherwise, as I prefer a different look.

What a perfect outfit for your trip to Mexico! It’s fun and the colors look great on you. I like the cute pants but can’t wear the shorter, cropped length. My legs are too long and they hit at the wrong spot (same thing with 3/4 length sleeves). And, yes, you need to brighten your toes. I wear a watermelon color on my toes in the summer. Thank you, Jennifer, for showing us looks and clothing we might never have considered.

    1. Since I polish my own toes itā€™s time to buy a fun color for the warm weather.

  10. Jennifer–
What is the recommended care for the pearl and diamond studs, since they have sterling backs? I wondered about the DY sterling and pearl earrings you showed the other day, too.

    1. David Yurman sterling does not tarnish. They come with a soft cloth to wipe the metal, but to be honest, I seldom do. I always put my pearls on last so they donā€™t get hairspray, etc on them.

  11. I love the shirt, however the price…….ouch! Guess I will pass on this one.

  12. Iā€™m such a dirt magnet when I wear white, that I wouldnā€™t dare to include the linen pants in a vacation wardrobe, but the scalloped hem is a cute touch. I have one tropical print shirt that I enjoy, but one is enough in my small closet.

  13. Like the black Paradise shirt. So versatile through Spring and Summer.

  14. I’m not big on tropical prints, but I do like the shirt you are modeling. I guess when in Rome….

  15. Hmmmā€¦.how can i be the most diplomatic about this outfit? On a prior note, you mentioned that you model clothes, not necessarily your choice, but to show us how certain choices look. Thank you for showing me what a tight tank tucked into an elastic waist pants and a floral drape looks like. Need I say more. šŸ™‚

    1. lol, not all combinations are home runs.

      1. I think you look great! Happy & fun – that IS a home run!!

      2. Happy and fun is always a winner for me:)

    2. You need not say more. In fact, you perhaps could have said less. I might guess you will not be going on a Mexican vacation and may not recognize the necessity of tanks and loose linen pants for a very hot and tropical climate. I love those pants, Jennifer!

      1. It’s so hot and casual there, white or color just feels right to me. Things I don’t wear here, work there perfectly.

  16. Oh, I wish I was going somewhere tropical! Have fun, Jennifer. I love all the colorful prints. Enjoy!

  17. I shopped at Farm in Rio when I was there. They are some of my favorite clothes and yes everyone there was dressed in bright colors.

    1. Very nice vacation outfit. I really like the slimmer leg linen pants. Most summer linen pants are full and flowing and being 5ā€™2ā€ are too much for my frame. Iā€™m definitely going to check them out. The colorful top will be great for a trip to any tropical climate.

      1. Theyā€™re a fun alternative to wide legs

  18. I love tropical prints and don’t see enough of them. I’ll check out this site!

    1. As you always say, wear what makes you confident. None of these florals would make me feel confident. I love color, just not big florals.
