Would You Wear This Blue Floral?

Would You Wear This Blue Floral?

Happy Wednesday ladies. I have an outfit of the day plus our regular post so pour yourself another cup of tea or coffee and let’s get to it.

I am enduring a heatwave but not everyone is so today I’m sharing what I wore yesterday but tossed on a denim jacket to show you how I would wear it if I could get to the ocean, which is where I am dreaming of being these days. I bought this tank last year along with a matching cardigan and wore it to bits! The tank needed replacing this year (as most white tees do) but the cardigan was fine so I was thrilled to see they made the tank again:)  Jennifer Connolly wearing blue linen pants and white denim jacket

I spotted these pants in Chico’s last week and could not pass them up. They are 70% off and perfect for hot days. My earrings are from the amazing Canadian designer, Dean Davidson. I have a post upcoming on his amazing collections with a very special discount code for my readers. I bought my straw hat for $10 last year and wear it a ton.

Now it’s time for our midweek would you wear it with my friend Pam. We used to do these only on Saturday but decided you might need a little midweek distraction so we added this one on Wednesday. Do you like this extra one? Do you want to keep seeing these?

store mannequin wearing blue top and floral skirt

this look is from Loft

Stores dress mannequins to showcase new merchandise and also give us styling ideas. We want to know if you would wear what it’s modeling. Please keep your comments personal to you so no one gets insulted.

So what do you think? Would you wear this? Please share why or why not.

I also love to hear the ways you would style these looks to work with your shape and lifestyle.

A reader, Linda, mentioned that she has trouble keeping her mask on and asked me to find some solutions for her. I was given the answer at my hand therapy appointment yesterday. I noticed the receptionist didn’t have her’s hooked over her ears and asked about it. She reached into a package and handed me one of these. They’re called an ear saver. A quick look around Etsy discovered lots of varieties.

Please let me know if there are other things you are looking for.

Everlane is having its first Summer Sale with up to 50% off. Their cashmere V-necks have been a staple in my fall and winter wardrobe for years. The navy and rose colors are currently marked down to $60. I know it’s hard to think about buying clothes for cold weather when we’re in the throes of a heatwave, but you might want to have a peek.

Now let’s head to Over 50 Feeling 40 and see what Pam’s mannequin is wearing.

Thanks for reading and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

Probably not… I might wear the blouse as the big sleeves would fill out my narrow shoulders. Also, the blue color would be a great color for me.
The skirt is cute, but, with the summer heat, it doesn’t seem comfortable and airy. This summer there are no fairs, concerts, movies, few lunches. It would probably be a waste of money.
Jennifer, I love your ruana idea. I throw one on when I can…just to feel pretty. You look very put together. Also, my hair is fine, straight and thin. I have been putting mine up with combs, Bobby pins, scarves, scrunchies… whatever I can find that looks kinda cute!

I like the print but find the zigzag hem detail unnecessary. I don’t like the blouse style… looks ill-fitting and a bit frumpy in how it’s worn rather sloppily on the model. I think the skirt would look better worn with a classic tailored shirt In deep blue, tied in the front, with a straw bag and tan sandals to warm up the blue. Gold hoop earrings. Since the skirt is the animated key player, I would keep everything else classic and simple.

Absolutely not. This is a very dowdy outfit, very forgettable.

This dress strikes me as very memorable but perhaps not in a good way 😉

Love the skirt and top and would try them and buy them if they are flattering. They would be fine for work in the summer. Also love the Chico’s linen slacks.

Thank you for this mid-week reading. I appreciate it.
This outfit & the one over on Pam’s blog are both nos.
I prefer an A line skirt and not so busy.
Hope SF gets some fog soon so you can be cooler.

This is not an outfit that I would wear. I like the colour of the top, but not the puffy sleeves. I don’t mean to be rude, but the pattern on the skirt reminds me of a dish towel or perhaps Delft china.

Duh! I have white tees and a white denim jacket but never thought to wear them together, especially with a straw hat. Looks summery, cool and put together. I learn so much from you!

I enjoy the 2x per week Would You Wear It posts! That said, I would not wear this particular outfit as the puffy sleeve blouse isn’t my style and the canvas/embroidery combination in the lined skirt is too warm for SE Florida. The color and fit of the skirt however, I would wear.

Your outfit worn yesterday looks so comfortable and cooling as well as looking good on you. Unfortunately, Chico’s is out of the size 1 short in the pants. I might try the petite as the description shows the inseam as 27.5 and that would hit right at the ankle which is good for flats. Chico’s is always good with returning online purchases to their stores.

Those Dean David earrings are fabulous. I explored his website and all the creations are beautiful!

That is a beautiful shade of blue, and the print is really lovely. I’m not wearing skirts, but it would be a great outfit on someone who does.

This is a no for me for two reasons, contrast and conservative. I don’t like high contrast outfits and this one cuts one right in half. I find the cut of the blouse and print of the skirt too conservative for my tastes.

  12. Diana

Yes, I would wear this outfit. Blue and white always denotes a clean and crisp feel. Very Spring/Summer!

    July 22, 2020 / 10:31 am

This outfit looks fresh & pretty for a summer day. I would likely not blouse the top but wear it tucked in. I like the print & shape of the skirt. I would wear it with white sneakers as sandals don’t do my old feet any favors.

Jennifer, I love your outfit. It looks perfect on you. I enjoy the Wednesday Would You Wear It.
Now for the mannequin. The blues are gorgeous and speak to me, especially the Delft print skirt. A no to the blouse, though because of those sleeves! The fabric is lovely as is the color, but I wouldn’t wear those sleeves.

  15. Nancy Walden
    July 22, 2020 / 9:44 am

I love the color but the top looks too big/long to wear with that skirt. I usually wear my top untucked and this one looks like it would be too long and wide to be flattering. The skirt is cute and I’d wear it if it was long enough. I like my short skirts to hit between the top of my knee and mid-knee.

  16. Francesca B.
    July 22, 2020 / 9:30 am

I like the royal blue top and I would try it on but it could be too full in the sleeves for me. I don’t like the skirt much because I don’t like the strong zig zag pattern at the bottom and to me it looks a bit like a tablecloth, and the pattern is very big, I wish it was smaller because I like florals. And I love blue and white together. Love those Chico’s linen pants might have to buy them Jennifer, such a cute outfit on you. Really enjoy the mid week “would you wear it series,” so much fun and i know its Wednesday!

LOL, That’s how I know it’s Wednesday too:)

    I would wear this.

I am not a fan of pouffy sleeves, but these are more gathered and soft than puffed up. This combined with the sleeve length, works well for pear-shaped bodies. The top adds volume where it is needed.

This skirt has a zigzag pattern at the hem, which creates an A-line effect, also good for balancing a pear shape.

Blue and white is a classic summer combination. This blue works for most complexions. Win!

    July 22, 2020 / 9:06 am

The skirt is cute and reminds me of Delft China from the Netherlands and Curaçao. I’d wear the skirt but don’t like the top at all. I am short and busty and this puff would just make my chest even wider. I’d like the skirt with a tank or sleeveless top and a jean jacket. I always need a third piece with a skirt to feel less frumpy and old lady.

    July 22, 2020 / 8:43 am

I do like this outfit. It wasn’t one that grabbed me immediately but I do think it would be good. I would like the top better if the sleeves did not have the bottom band but rather were just flowy to that length. I haven’t been wearing skirts much – but I certainly do love “house” dresses for this stay-at-home summer!

  20. Anne Johansen
    July 22, 2020 / 8:33 am

Yes, I would wear the skirt. It is beautiful. I would wear a different top. I don’t like the sleeves on this top.

It is nice to see you wearing a Canadian product ( your earrings).

  21. Connie
    July 22, 2020 / 8:30 am

I love the skirt. I’m attracted to anything in blue and white and have been since my first blue willow tea set when I was six! I like the puff sleeves and would wear a long necklace to get the V that is more flattering on me. I thought about those pants when I was at Chicos yesterday, but realized I don’t tuck in my tops so it was a no for me. You look great!

  22. Mary
    July 22, 2020 / 8:28 am

Jennifer–Add me to those saying you look so great in your Chico’s pants outfit! Would you share what size you’re wearing? I went to the website, and despite the Fit Finder, I can’t decide between the different size ranges–Regular, Short and Petite. I’m 5’3″, with a 29″ inseam, and can often make anything work.
As for today’s skirt and top–I wouldn’t wear it only because white bottoms and I seem to have a thing for food spills. But it’s so cheerful! I like the top more than I expected, despite not having an open neckline; it must be the sleeves, which I don’t usually do. It probably would work for me, since I’m narrow shouldered, and would help balance out the rest of me.

Sorry, I forgot to say. I am wearing a OR, which I hemmed up one hem length

Yes to Wed would you wear it!

I miss your comments and analysis afterwards. I wish you would add the helpful comments to other pieces you show…like when you say how a v neck is good for such-and-such body types, etc.

I like this blue floral outfit a lot. It could look great or old lady-ish on me. While I do well in A line skirts, by the time you get to a size 12, the pattern could be too much and make me look bigger. Although the hemline draws the eye down. The top is blousy and the sleeves are full. Sometimes a little extra fabric is perfect if it drapes well. Sometimes it just make one look larger.

Same for all the loose linen pants. You wear them so well! I tried them last year. They were comfortable and they were all nice and drapy when I stood in front of the mirror but my silhouette looked like a walking rectangle. And I fussed to hide the drawstring so it wouldn’t bulge.

If you have a curvy butt, all those loose wide legged pants hang from the furthest point from your body. They make me look twice my size. If I wear a loose blouse, even more so. And they don’t look right with a tighter top.

Love blue color, the floral print, A line and length of skirt, the neckline and sleeves. Big yes to this outfit!

Just ordered those mask holders. Keeping the mask elastics around my ears is an ongoing annoyance. Thanks!

  26. FabulousWu
    July 22, 2020 / 7:15 am

Nope. The sleeves on the blouse are puffy and a tad too girlish for me. The length is too long for the skirt. Don’t care for the print on the skirt either. Like the colors though.

  27. Kathy
    July 22, 2020 / 6:53 am

Your outfit looks fresh and cool! I wish I could wear those pants, but I just hate things that tie around my waist. I do love the cute floral skirt with the blue puffed sleeve top. I would definitely wear something like that but would have to self tan the legs a little first. Your earrings are stunning! I would love to find something similar in a clip style as I am unable to wear pierced earrings.

Nice outfit but my preference would be white on blue background and white top.

  29. Linda L
    July 22, 2020 / 6:33 am

All the pieces you show today are in my wardrobe except for the blue, puffed sleeve top. I prefer a v-neck tee or smart, looking button down. Stay cool!

Lee, Thanks for this tip! I have the double-sided tape, & will try this next time I go out. I also have trouble with my glasses fogging up & hope this will help with that also. Have a great day!

  32. MP
    July 22, 2020 / 6:05 am

Cute skirt for a hot day. I avoid big, loud florals but this is nice, and I love BLUE! I would wear it with a navy or white v neck tshirt — sleeveless, short sleeve or 3/4. The top shown is not for me. Those puffy sleeves…

  33. Lee Dorner
    July 22, 2020 / 5:58 am

To keep masks from slipping down your nose necessitating fidgeting with them, use a strip of double-sided skin tape (used to keep clothes in place) across your nose bridge. Particularly helpful when making any more extended runs to Costco or Kroger. Pretty much the only places I go! Also keeps glasses from fogging which I wear s a shield. Be well all.

Great idea Lee. I hate how my glasses fog up

        July 22, 2020 / 7:53 am

I wear glasses and love Stark’s Vacuum masks! Yes, it’s a vacuum retailer that has expanded to masks. They are a very next-to-skin soft 3-layers (which is CDC recommended) and have a little section that flaps up to cover the bridge of your nose, so no fogging of the glasses! I have 4 of them now, and have recommended them to so many people. Free U.S. shipping.

The outfit is really cute and if I was not so curvacious (if you know what I mean) I would love wearing something like this in different ways throughout the year. But the short skirt does emphasize my hips, so it would not work. Cute blouse though.

  35. Bea
    July 22, 2020 / 5:40 am

Yes to midweek “Would You WearIt” posts! I enjoy seeing the displays and reading the comments. I don’t wear many skirts these days so probably would not buy the skirt (although I find the print interesting). I love the color of the blue top but not the style. Those bell sleeves might make my bust look larger than it is – not a good look for my body type.

I just ordered a white jeans jacket. Hope it looks as good on me as it looks on you.

  36. Debbie Bell
    July 22, 2020 / 5:39 am

Love today’s outfit, though like others, I’d probably ideally opt for cap sleeves.
Skirts are so lovely, when not biking, I really should wear them more often.
    Enjoy the outdoors!

  37. Linda GR
    July 22, 2020 / 5:38 am

Love the outfit. I’m not sure about the sleeve on the top. I like the length, but the puff may be to much. I’d definitely wear the skirt. I would probably add a necklace and a pair of low heeled flats.

  38. Diane B
    July 22, 2020 / 5:30 am

Those pants look so comfortable, I will check out the website. As for the look for today, the colours are great for summer and I would wear that skirt if it was long enough on me. I would change out the top with a white blouse for another option and add a fun necklace. I would have to try on the blue top to see how the sleeves work, but the fullness might just hide the top of my arms nicely as I don’t like tight sleeves. I do wear alot of skirts and wear slip shorts under for comfort.

Am loving your pants Jennifer and am considering them. As to the ‘would you wear it outfit’, though not one for botanical or floral patterns do like the skirt as reminds me of ‘delft’ blue porcelain. Didn’t check its fabric, but feel you could dress it up or down. With respect to the top love its colour however would pass due to its style, as for myself just not fond of its sleeves. Appreciating your heads-up on the cashmere sweaters.

I adore the versatile outfit you’re modeling today! The fabric, color and style all create a summer look that I love! This clothing ensemble lets “you” shine. Looking good Jennifer!
Now, the mannequin display makes me pause a bit. I don’t hate it but just don’t think I would want to try to make it work for me. I like the skirt but like others mentioned, those sleeves are not a favorite.
I am ordering the tank you modeled today. I can’t go wrong by adding these basic pieces. Thanks for the heads up on all the amazing sale prices out there.

I’m sorry but this outfit is so homely.I wouldn’t go out in this, because I wouldn’t feel I’ve made an effort.I don’t have many outfits now after a culling of my wardrobe, but what I do have has got to be stylish.

    July 22, 2020 / 4:34 am

I really like the floral skirt. It would look great with a jean jacket. The only thing I don’t like about the top is the sleeve style – too puffy for me. A funky necklace would be a good addition, too.

    July 22, 2020 / 3:30 am

First of all you look so cute in your linen(?) pants, tennis shoes and white jean jacket. I searched our local Talbots this week for shorts, tees etc and they had nothing in my size at all. Mostly XS or XL nothing much in between that I liked. Came away with one pair of 10 1/2 inch shorts but was hoping for 9 inch. No tee dresses, no tees in colors I wanted, except in sizes I cannot wear. I started too Late for these great sales, Covid- caution I call it.
    I’ll try Chicos next……
On the outfit you’re featuring. I would wear it if I had somewhere to go where a skirt is needed. It’s very cute and I love the top….sleeves and all! Since I’m mainly at home during this Covid pandemic, skirts don’t have the appeal they once did.
