Would You Wear It- Watercolor

Would You Wear It- Watercolor

Happy Saturday ladies. Today I have a watercolor top for you. As you know, I have been getting several online personal color consultations over the last few months. Some are resonating with what I think are my most flattering colors and some are not. I’m not saying a hard no to any of them yet, but I am getting a broader idea of what my best colors are now. As I’ve shared here, I believe our most flattering colors shift as we age and that we are best served with a refresher.

I’m also learning that my best pallet may not be definable by a season, and I’m just fine with that. I’m becoming hyper-aware of the colors around me and the nuances of hue, value, and saturation. After my last consultation, I will share a roundup of what I’ve learned and who I’ve used.

Also- The Three Colors You Should Never Wear

Since it’s Saturday, it’s time for would you wear it. Each week my friend Pam and I share a mannequin we’ve photographed and ask our readers if they would wear what it’s modeling. We all enjoy the give and take in the comment section so please keep yours constructive.

So what do you think?

Would you wear this outfit?

Please share how you could style the pieces to work for your shape and lifestyle?

Thanks for reading and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

I love the fabric of the cobalt blue top, but raglan is not flattering to me. I wish it was a different style.

Mm, not sure. And they say when in doubt dont! So no, I am not a huge fan of blue and white together and it looks a bit tie dye which I am also not a fan of.

The blue and white make a striking combination and on the right body style it would look great. Big patterns like this tend to overpower my short body. I prefer smaller patterns.

I absolutely love that outfit, and the colors. The only thing I don’t like is the sleeves. I would buy that top and cut the sleeves off to just above my elbows.
I am looking forward to hearing about your color analysis, as I want to do one.

I didn’t even notice the lavender top until I went back to the photo. I don’t like that color, and I don’t like the look of the material. I think it might cling to me too much

I would wear the blue and. white outfit as shown. Cobalt blue and white is a great color combo for me. I just bought a very similar pair of linen pants in an off white colorI. wasn’t sure I would like the cropped length, but I wore them the other day and they looked fine. A nice change from capris or long pants on a hot day. This top gives off a slightly boho feel and I like that occasionally.
The lavender top is not that appealing to me and I’m not fond of the tie just hanging there. The color is OK for me and I would maybe try it on just to see how it fit, but not with the ties.

I like the color of this top & would try it on. I’m not crazy about the dangling ties at the neck but don’t think it would look right with them tied in a bow or a knot, so while I might try it, I likely wouldn’t buy it.

I like the blue print very much. The polyester would be too hot for summer but in theory I would wear this top with the slim leg pants.

Any tie at the neck is too busy for me. Seems to be the style these days. So both of these are a “no.”

I’d have to say to both outfits.

The lavender color is gorgeous, but the style is all wrong for me.
The blue and white top is quite striking, but again the print is not right for me.

I don’t normally wear cropped pants, but I might try these on. They look super comfy for warm weather without having to wear shorts!

I love the top and would definitely try it and wear it if it fits well and doesn’t look to overwhelming. This blue is a favorite and I love the combination of blue and white, especially in the summer. I also like the linen slacks although I would prefer them in black and would probably just wear the top with black linen slacks I already own. I like the lilac blouse but have found that lilac does not seem to be one of my colors.

I love the blue and white print, but ,if it is polyester, it would have to be a spring top for me. I agree with most of the others that it would be a better choice to pair it with a narrower legged pant.
The lavender top is gorgeous, but, I just don’t see myself choosing it. If it was a dress, I would wear it. The color is scrumptious….I would love to see it in a crepe fabric for a fancy occasion.

I love the cobalt blue top. I wear it with slim-fitting pants like the Brigette crop. I’d keep the look simple with pretty earrings and possibly a bracelet or two. I would not wear the linen pant. A more structured fit is a better look for me. I think the lavender top is pretty but I’m not sure I’d like it on me. I’d have to try it on to see if it flattered my curvy shape. It would also have to be in another color!

I love the bold blue and white colors. Sadly, I would say no to wearing it. I am short 5’1” and larger through the shoulders and bust. I’m afraid the top would wear me. If it were the same colors and pattern in a more petite design, I would love to try it. I’m not fond of linen or wide legs. I’m trying to love a more unstructured look, but I’m not there yet. I do like the lilac blouse to the left in the picture. I think I might be able to wear that.

    June 27, 2020 / 9:40 am

Firstly, a no to both pair of pants as the pair on the left are too unstructured for my taste as lack design whereas the wide leg ones on the right I’d prefer to be longer. As for the blue ‘n white top, love its colours/pattern but would prefer it in another style as in a camisole or even a tailored shirt that would be more suitable for my lifestyle. Last but not least; re the lavender blouse regardless that I applaud its unique color and pleating details I personally wouldn’t purchase it as know it would only collect dust in my closet.

I like both actually. I’ve never tried lavender but I’d try it on. I’m finding with my silver hair that a mid range of color is better. A pastel can make me look washed out & darker near my face in any color is not good. I love drawstrings. I have no seat and hardly any hips but a lot of waist. I can adjust them and the gathering makes my seat look better in back.

I really like both tops. I wear white pants all summer but have to have a slim leg.

    June 27, 2020 / 9:10 am

Yes to the blue top! That’s one of my ‘flattering colors’ (thus a favorite) and I like the sleeve length, the raglan sleeves (that are close to the arm at the bottom), and loose fit. I would pair it with a slimmer leg pant and different (or maybe no) necklace though

  18. Bev
    June 27, 2020 / 9:02 am

I love the blue top but because it is flowy, I would pair with white skinny jeans. The wide leg pants I would pair with a close fitting t done with a French tuck.
I can’t wear olive or beige they totally wash me out. I love red, orange, lemon yellow – brights in general

The lavender top is not my cup of tea at all although the colour is pretty

When I think of watercolour, I think of softer, gentler tones. Though I like the blues in this top, the pattern is too bold and it would overwhelm me. The pants are also a no for me as I prefer a slimmer leg in an ankle length pant.

    June 27, 2020 / 8:59 am

I love the blue watercolor. I find a bold color in the same shades is more wearable than multi colors. I would wear it with straight leg, slimmer capris or slacks–lose on top, fitted on bottom and vice versa. I do own very similar slacks but never wear them since I prefer slim pants and loose tops. The lavender is too pale for me and too fussy, but I would enjoy seeing it on others. I’ve bought 3 linen blouses from Chicos this week. They are cool, opaque, and tailored. I’ve avoided them in the past because of wrinkles. I’m happy to have gotten over that since it’s been in the 100’s all week.

The blue blouse is a beautiful pattern and fabric coloration. But too bold for me. Whether I would even try it on would depend on the fabric content. Some fabrics, like shiny silky ones, are not flattering on me and I find that element as important as color and fit.
I agree with most comments on short pants. Not flattering, especially in white.
The pleated lavender top is a cool, low key color that, in my opinion, few people can wear well. Like sage green and muddy pink….I call them awkward colors. But I’ve always liked the lavender color in a color crayon box! An artist whose work I enjoy online, Ann Follet, uses this color liberally in her work and it’s gorgeous. It actually has an almost magical quality, and works to enhance other colors.
So in clothing I’m thinking it’s best used in a print rather than as a solid piece. Or combined with other solid items.

I reluctantly agree that our color changes as we change. I’m finding it much more challenging to find styles, fabrications, and colors that flatter me now. Maybe it’s that I’m less inclined to make the effort to “style” my outfits as creatively as I used to. Less energy and frankly feeling less attractive . I need something to give me as shot of enthusiasm. This site does help inspire me quite a lot. Thanks Jennifer for your continued posts.

No to both. They’re too busy for my small body. I would head right over to the 3/4 length sleeve beige top behind them. It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for.

I love the blue top but would wear it with silver jewelry and I don’t personally care for wide leg pants. The lavender color doesn’t make me happy so I’m guessing it’s not in my palette and it is a little “fussy” for my taste. I have previously bought styles like this but realize that I’m happier and more comfortable with styles that are simpler.

  24. Susan McClelland
    June 27, 2020 / 6:56 am

I like the blue top but the lavender one is much more my style/taste. I’m on the fence about the white pants – not sure whether the wider leg would be flattering on me.

Oh yes, I have this blouse and am anxiously waiting to wear it when the occasion arises. I love these different hues of blue which will coordinate with the many hues of blue pants I own; also with my white pants. I have blue eyes and “blondish” hair and these blues are me! Also love the peasant blouse styling and it’s quite slimming on.
No to the gold necklace, for me it would be white, silver or blue earrings (silver sandals would be great also).

Love the color and the pants. Not sure about the style of sleeve and the top would look better with slimmer pants. No on the necklace, not a chunky or heavy necklace type. I prefer fine delicate necklaces.

The blue “watercolor” top looks like a TieDye piece that’s been renamed to fit a new fashion trend. I never did like tie-dyed anything, even back in the 60’s or 70’s. The pants on either mannequin are too short for my taste. I wear pants to keep my ankles warm….these would not cut it!! The lavender top with all the pleats and the skinny tie remind me of late 60’s early 70’s garb…not a fan of either look! The ties always get in the way…feels like a choking hazard to me! In conclusion, I would not wear these outfits!

I like the blue color, but being a short person, I tend to stay away from baggy clothes, both tops and pants. I’m not thrilled about the fact that wide leg pants are coming back in. I like to wear things that have more shape. The narrower white pants in the other mannequin are more my style. Plus, I don’t especially like pattern on the blue top.

Lately I’ve been into navy’s and blues, and I have had several compliments lately when I wear blue. I guess since I’ve gone gray, it’s a good color for me. Although the color would compliment my aging hair and skin tone, I’m not a fan of this top. The print is ok but not a fan of the cut & sleeve style.

I do like the top, but I think I’d want to try in on first. I would pair the top with a skinnier type of pant. The necklace would have to go. I would choose something in silver and probably something chunkier.

  32. Linda GR
    June 27, 2020 / 5:26 am

I like the blue color in the top, but the style is not best for me. I do like the pants, and I’d probably purchase them. I really like linen clothing, wrinkles and all.

Both nice outfits! But the cobalt blue and white with a large print would be too loud for my shortish height and small features!
The trousers are too wide and short for me. The lilac colour is pretty but no pleats please! White pants look fine. Really keen to read your thoughts on your colour analysis journey , here and to come!

I have recently tweaked my style messages and I am going for simpler prints , so for those reasons, I would not wear this. It is a beautiful, eye-catching top…and might have been for me in the past. But, no longer. I do wear this blue!

  35. Cindy
    June 27, 2020 / 5:19 am

I love the blue top but since it’s kind of big and boxey I’d wear the skinnier pant with it. Big on top, skinny on bottom. Don’t think the lavender color is for me. I have never been drawn to pastel colors.

  36. Jan
    June 27, 2020 / 5:17 am

It’s a no to both of these featured tops. The lavender top is loaded with small details that do nothing for my shape. The cobalt blue top is made of polyester, not a good hot weather fabric. I also like a set in sleeve. That structure seems to balance out my shape so much better than a raglan sleeve.
Looking to the back of the featured display, I love the linen shirts hanging on a rack with a $39.00 sign! I checked them out and there are a variety of colors and one that was reduced to $29.00. Now that’s a big, shut the front door, yes, for me! Lol
    Happy Saturday to all!

@Jennifer: As we in Canada do not have a Chicos do you find their sizing chart accurate/consistent? I’m eyeing the no-iron linen shirts I believe Jan is mentioning and am curious as to the size you would choose for yourself. Thank you!

I really like this cobalt and white blouse but agree with those before me who would prefer it for myself with more tapered leg pant, a narrower leg. It’s.a very attractive top. . Until I read a comment I didn’t realize it was all polyester, however. I don’t own any all polyester summer garments. It’s not at all comfortable in high humidity as we have here. So I’d pass.
The violet top Is somewhat pretty too, but I’m not drawn to it so probably would pass.

The color and print are nice, but I like the lavender top and narrower pants on the left better. I end up walking on the hems of wide leg pants and getting them dirty.

  43. Yvonne
    June 27, 2020 / 4:47 am

I like the look of the print as bright blue and white is a favourite of mine, however as it’s polyester and appears to be quite a boxy shape, I would pass on this.

  44. Sue
    June 27, 2020 / 4:39 am

I love blue and white but not this outfit. The top is too bold, I don’t like raglan sleeves and the pants are too full. I would wear the lavender top on the left with staight full length white jeans. I like the subtleness of this top and the neckline — no necklace needed. The pants shown here are a bit too short for me.

  45. Linda V
    June 27, 2020 / 4:32 am

I do love the top and the color! but I would not wear here in Florida because it is polyester! Too warm for summer! The pants are too wide for me.

  47. Diane B
    June 27, 2020 / 4:19 am

The top is very eye catching, and for that reason I would not personally wear it. I do like the colour, but with the pattern and raglan sleeve I would pass. I do however really like the top to the left. The length and softness of it with the more fitted section through the waist are attractive. I would get rid of the ties at the neck and leave it open with a necklace. The length of that one would lend itself to slim pants or even leggings and a flat shoe. Keep us posted about the colour journey and who you fine the most interesting.

I love this look! I loved cobalt blue . I would not wear a necklace as the top has those ties. Maybe some silver bangles. I like that the top has elastic at sleeve bottom and doesn’t flop around. The length of pant is great. Strappy sandals, maybe even silver metallic or going out.
