Casual Skort with Tie-Dye Tee

Happy Monday ladies. At the request of several readers, I’ve been hunting for skorts to style for you. They’re a hybrid between a skirt and shorts making them a great option for women who don’t like to wear shorts. Today I’m styling a casual skort outfit with a tie-dye tee.

There are tons of patterns and shapes available from varying brands, but the one thing that skorts have in common is the ability to prevent chub rub. When it’s hot and sticky out, even the thinnest thighs rub together. The friction of repeated inner thigh rubbing causes sore skin which can even turn into an infection.

Casual Skort Outfit

These yoga skorts come in misses, petite, plus, and plus petite sizes S-XL. They’re a machine wash cotton/spandex blend that is super soft and comfy. I’m wearing the regular small, which is 1/2″ longer than the petite. They come in 5 colors, I’m wearing black. I love the side pockets and pull-on styling. They’re so stretchy, you really could do yoga in these.

This skort is shorter than the shorts I wore last week but for some reason, they feel more covered up. Perhaps it’s the overskirt so there’s not as much leg and backside definition. Whatever the reason, these are a great alternative for women who don’t want to wear shorts.

TASSEL EARRINGS

What are the odds that a tee that arrived last week would already be sold out? Apparently pretty high because I can’t find this blue one I’m wearing. There’s a sleeveless version here, and a gauze shirt one here. A totally different color option here…but not this exact one.

Tie-dye is such a boho pattern I decided these boho tassel earrings. would be a perfect touch, and at under $9, within every budget. Boho isn’t in my style wheelhouse that often but I can’t resist the lightweight tassel earrings I see each summer. They’re just fun and feel right on hot days.

ANTI CHAFE PRODUCTS

My simple thong sandals get a ton of wear each summer because they’re high enough on my foot to feel secure without having to grip my toes. Similar here, and here, and here.Ā  I’m not a fan of flip flops for daywear but a nice thong is just as cool on hot days yet looks a bit more polished.

  1. The skort looks great although I cannot wear short skirts/shorts/skorts in summer because I need support socks or stockings all year. But I’m really commenting to say I love the T-shirt you are wearing. I’ve been resisting the tie-dye trend which will likely be short-lived, but this T-shirt would be a great way to give a nod to the trend. And it looks great on you.

  2. I have tons of skorts from Susan Graver on QVC! Some summers I don’t like them on me, other summers I do! So, I keep them. They are great for a beach vacation. You look a bit more dressed up, yet still feel casual. Also, Lilly Pulitzer has some really cute skorts in bright colored patterns!
For me, with shorts, skorts or dresses; always self-tan on the legs!
I love the one you have on and it’s perfect with the tee. Love the earrings too! Very cute!

  3. I have the Talbots yoga skirts in navy. I found that the shorts under the skirt start to ride up between the thighs. It becomes a bit uncomfortable while walking. Does anyone else have the same problem?

    1. Yes, the short portion under sports skorts, always ride up on me also. Iā€™m a pear shape, so all under pieces and underwear that doesnā€™t have snug leg elastic never stays in place. Iā€™ve worn the ā€œ cheeky ā€œ look for years, way before the manufacturers came up with the idea for swim/. Underwear, no thanks, give me retro instead.šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

    2. I am almost 5′ and weigh 140. I just purchased four skorts. I have worn two around the house and they both ride up. Now that I’ve read everything here about skorts I will try a yoga type skort and hope it works. They are very comfortable and easy to wear!

  4. I’m 57 and never wear shorts anymore, just skorts! I love them because they’re more feminine than shorts and they don’t ride up between my thighs when walking like shorts do. My favorite are the Duluth NoGa skorts because the fabric is comfy and wears like iron. I’m wearing an olive one from 2-3 yrs ago right now. The Lands End Active Knit Skort is also nice, though a bit on the shorter side for me. Athleta makes good ones too, and if ordering from them, I always get them in Tall so that I get a bit of extra length. Jennifer, you look great in skorts!

  5. Karen Kasberg says:

I have a few skorts which Iā€™ve not worn in a few years. Youā€™ve inspired me to get them out and wear them. I have to agree with you in that the skirt part does make you feel more covered up.

  6. I have the Active Knit Skort from Lands’ End and I love it so much I just ordered another! I feel like it hides a belly better than shorts, and I prefer it to a skirt because it does prevent chub rub and also eliminates my constant worry that I’m going to inadvertently flash someone.

  7. I love the skorts from LL Bean; they have all sorts of pockets, zipped and no zipper, to hold anything you might need. I’m short the the skorts look like a skirt on me, Because I’m over 70 I think it’s more sensible for me to wear cool skorts than shorts. You know, the wobble factor.

  8. I love tie dye t-shirts. I have a few that I just love.
I donā€™t own a skort at this time, but after see yours, I will I be on the hunt for a new one or two for this summer.
    Thanks for the info. šŸ˜‰

  9. I found a skort up here at Target in Breckenridge because it was too hot to wear pants . Everyone is very casual and wearing workout clothes or shorts.
Thank goodness I had some short sleeve t shirts packed.

  10. Tip: If you have pasty, white winter legs, wearing a white, tan or lighter color skirt will create less contrast and generally look better.

    1. Self tanner is a great option too:)

  11. Love skorts, best for me in summer. They are so comfy and cool for here in Florida. BTW did you do something different with your hair? It looks beautiful, the bangs frame your face so nicely. Have a great week Jennifer ā˜ŗļøā˜ŗļø

    1. Thanks. I put some Velcro rollers on for a few minutes while I put my makeup on just for some extra poof.

  12. I like skorts and have a white and a denim from last year. Your skort is nice and I will consider a black color since it slims and goes with any top. The pockets are an issue with me….the side pockets give a wider look to my hips so I prefer the front of skort to have a zipper with pockets just like jeans or just a flat panel-no slit pockets.
I really like the slightly shorter length on you….you have the legs for it. The tie dye tee is really fun and reminds me of the days when I bought Rit dye and made a huge mess making my own dyed tees.

  13. I save my many golf skorts for golf; the prints are so fun, the fabrics amazing especially in the heat and, well, they are pretty pricey. My many Talbots skorts can transition to golf, shopping and grandkids watching and Iā€™ll wear them on the course as well. Two athleta skorts I hike in are made from a durable fabric that resists tears from any mishaps. Here in SoCal desert skorts are worn all year round.

  14. Really like the skort on you, Jennifer. As for myself only own one pair of Bermudas so guess I am, not a ‘short length’ kind of gal … ā˜ŗ. That said though; when I was younger wore all lengths in shorts and if I recall correctly in my late teens/early twenties a favourite of mine were hot pants that were somewhat short which gave the illusion of a skirt that came in the option of separates, as well as in dresses and jumpsuits. -Brenda-
P.S.: Re your Sunday news bulletin. Do like the Lo & Sons handbag as appears exceptionally well-designed!

    1. They are great. I just also ordered the small one in ivory too

  15. I am also a fan of the Athleta Soho skort. I own three of them. They are lightweight and comfortable for summer. They are also both functional and versatile. They can look casual and sporty with a t-shirt and sneakers, but can also be dressed up a little with a sleeveless print blouse (I like the Loft multimedia tops) and sandals. Since I don’t have a very defined waist, I often have trouble finding shorts that fit in the waist without being overly large in the hip and thighs. With the Soho skort, the elasticized waist and slight flair in the skirt give me a more defined shape without overwhelming my hips and thighs.

    1. I can visualization how they would give you more shape! Smart!

  16. I’m an avid skort wearer. At 5 ft. they are one thing I can shop for that do not need to be petite. Most are skirt length on me and thus don’t look as athletic as they may on others.

  17. Paulette Levy says:

I own only one skort- itā€™s white and I donā€™t even recall where I got it. Iā€™ve worn it only once. With a collared ā€œgolfā€ tee. I donā€™t play golf but it seemed appropriate.
Now I must find it- may wear it this summer!
    You look great in yours!

    1. White would be so perfect for summer

  18. Jennifer, I like the skort better than the long shorts on you (which means shorts might look better on me too). By showing more leg, you seem taller. I think I will have to try a skort, even though I don’t play golf!

P.S. I loved your remark about peddle pushers (when you were chatting with the other ladies about body types). Would love to see you model some peddle pushers.

    1. I have a pair on order:). I love that length leg on me.

  19. I don’t play golf, but I do wear my skorts more often than I thought I would when I bought them. They are perfect for hot days–comfortable but stylish enough for a run to the grocery store. Mine are from Patagonia and they look new after many washings. Thanks for featuring these options!

    1. I will check Patagonia out! Thanks

  20. I wear skorts all the time to play golf but also wear more and more instead of shorts. Iā€™ve always loved skirts so they make a wonderful compromise between the skirt and shorts. You are right on that you donā€™t get that leg rubbing in the heat. If you get them long enough they can be worn for most anything and be dressed up or down. Bought the scalloped white one from Talbots with a black and white poke a dot top. This outfit is for going out to dinner not golf. They are really great for traveling.

    1. I see how great they would be for traveling!!

  21. I really only wear my skorts to play golf for some reason. I guess I’ll start wearing them around more. I love the comfort and especially the pockets. A must for golf! I love your skort and tye dye shirt, looks really cool. Again I’ve only worn golf shirts with my skorts. Clearly I need to branch out!!

    1. I love skorts! I have short legs so need a shorter inseam and these provide that while being polished. I find 7 in shorts work for me as well.
There are many styles at Macyā€™s brand Karen Scott and Chicoā€™s.

      1. I just found the Chicoā€™s ones, they look great.

    2. Clearly, I need to try golf!! Iā€™ve always wanted to.

  22. Because I play golf at least twice a week in summer (and more on vacation in the winter), skorts are an important part of my wardrobe as are golf shorts. I agree that athletic brands typically have the most useful features, and they have wonderful fabrics. Iā€™d love to see an entire article on styling all sorts of golf clothesā€”tops, jackets, vests, etc. great styles even for non golfers.

  23. I love skorts and wear them all the time in the summer! The skirt falls over my pudgy belly whereas shorts seem to emphasize the pudge there. They also seem to up the style game and feel more polished (depending on the fabric, color, etc, of course). They also seem to slide across a hot car seat better, too! I have two that fall just above my knee and a couple of much shorter ones that I usually wear just around the house or to exercise.

  24. Iā€™m a huge skort wearer. I love that they look polished and put together, have the freedom of shorts, and work in the most casual situations but can carry off a slightly dressier vibe as well. And if you get one from an athletic brand they generally have ā€œrealā€ useful pockets. My favorites are the Soho Skirts from Athleta, but have a golf skort from Dickā€™s Sporting goods that i love as well.

    1. Good to know, thanks Karen
