Dressing Room Diaries – Spring 2021 Looks at Loft

I stopped in to see what’s new for spring 2021 at Loft last week and was thrilled to have the store all to myself. I’m sure Loft isn’t too crazy about that but it sure makes shopping easier. **Today is the last day to get 40% off your order with the code WANT and free shipping over $75.

If you’re new here, dressing room diaries is when I go into a store and try on new garments so you can see what they look like on a woman over 25, who wears a size larger than zero. For reference, I am 5’4″ and weigh 138 pounds. I have broad shoulders, straight narrow hips,Ā  with a long torso and arms. I usually wear one size larger on top than the bottom and go back and forth between petite and regular, depending on the fit.

WEARING – PLEATED SLEEVE BLOUSEWIDE LEG SAILOR JEANS

I started off in these wide-leg jeans. I know many of you aren’t fans but theyā€™re a very popular shape, and some of you do like them. Itā€™s funny but I wore this style of pant leg back in the 70s, yet they look very modern to me. These come in regular and petite sizes 27 to 33. Theyā€™re probably meant to be shorter because I am wearing the regular version in a 28. I actually like this length. They have a super high 12″ rise that I adore because they make my legs look longer:)

This pretty blouse is a flowy romantic style with a ruffled neck and puff shoulders. It comes in regular and petite size XXS to XXL. I am wearing the regular version in small so it runs true to size.

WEARING – POINTELLE SWEATER –Ā  HIGH WAIST JEANS

I grabbed these high waist jeans in the curvy version which you can see has way too much extra fabric in the hip area for me. I love that brands offer us styles cut for our unique body type. These are available in straight but my store didn’t have them in stock. I’m seeing less and less merchandise offered in stores these days which is a sign of the times.

I had to search far and wide in my store, and online, to find a pair of jeans with a finished hemline. I like the frayed hem look on others but I’m not a huge fan of it for me. This pointelle sweater comes in four pretty colors sized XXS to XXL. Iā€™m wearing a small. Itā€™s a cotton blend that’s machine washable and great for spring

This animal print sweater (looks like a Giraffe print to me) is incredibly soft and cozy. It’s available in regular, petite, and plus sizes in this porcelain color or black with ivory. It’s a high hip length so would be great with the new, wider leg jeans and pants. I’m wearing a regular in small so it runs TTS.

These are the same jeans as in the above outfit but in the darker wash and modern cut (straighter through hip). They’re a cotton/rayon/polyester, spandex blend that fits like a dream.

WEARING – GINGHAM SWEATERJEANS

Is there anything fresher for spring than gingham? This cute gingham sweater is available in this navy or a Rosie Grapefruit color in regular or petite size XXS to XXL. I am wearing a regular in the small so it runs true to size. I think it would look great with off white jeans or chinos for spring.

WEARING – GINGHAM SWEATERLONG CARDIGANJEANS

This long cardigan is the prettiest shade of teal which my photo doesn’t show. Check it out on the website for a more accurate look. It’s knit from chunky cotton yarn so is perfect now and on into spring. It runs a bit large so if you want a more fitted look, I would suggest you size down. I am wearing a small.

The open front makes it a great 3rd piece to layer over all your tee’s, tops, and jeans this spring. It also comes in Rosy Grapefruit (looks like coral) and Carmel Brown (looks like bronzed gold).

WEARING – TUNIC SWEATERSCULPT LEGGINGS

These leggings are a very thick fabric that is totally opaque and has a nice slimming feel. They’re available in regular, petite, and tall sized XXS to XXL. Iā€™m wearing charcoal and it comes in four other colors. I’m wearing a regular small and might get away with the petite but would size up to the PM.

Iā€™ve had my eye on this tunic sweater for a couple of weeks so I was happy to finally try it. It’s a beautiful fresh blue color and super soft. The turtleneck is loose so there’s none of that strangled feeling. The high/low hemline has a side slit making it a great shape to wear over leggings because it hits at mid-thigh. It’s also available in navy, sizes XS to L. It’s roomy but runs TTS. I’m wearing a small.

WEARING – DIP DYE SWEATER MY JEANS very similar

My smile should tell you how I feel about this dip dye sweater. It’s the prettiest shades of blue and cream, they call Dusty Sea Glass. I couldn’t resist it. It’s also available in Lemonade Spritz and Rosebud Pink. The ombre effect is a fun addition to this classic, raglan sleeve pullover.

It’s available in petite and regular, XXS to XXL. I find it runs small so I went up to a medium in regular and love this fit. It’s 100% cotton which several of you have asked me to find. Rather than dipping, this sweater appears to have painted on color.

The jeans are what I wore into the store, along with these mules which are sold out.

I really liked the navy blue shoes you styled the outfits with. Can you tell us where you got them?

  2. I have always said that losing a little weight is the best youth serum there is. You look amazing.

  3. I liked all of the sweaters, especially that beautiful ivory pointelle sweater-so feminine and would look great with a strand of creamy pearls. I’m really wanting it! No, no, no to wide leg pants; they looked good on you, but I just don’t like them for myself. Too trendy and remind me too much of the seventies. I would wear any of those sweaters with my favorite skinnies or ankle jeans.

  4. Love all those sweaters on you, especially the blue. Will never be a fan of wide legged pants. I’m sure it depends on the material though.

  5. I really like the wide leg pants on you, but as others have suggested, perhaps with a different top. I’ve been a fan of wide leg pants forever, and my summer wardrobe will attest to that. I recently purchased the new “sweater set” look, with the wide leg ankle pants with a matching top. So far, I’ve been wearing this inside, but am looking forward to spring so I can wear it outside with white sneakers. That’s why I love fashion – trying new looks to fit my style and personality.

  6. That blue tunic sweater is beautiful. I like the neck, too, not too turtle-y.

  7. My favourite look was the giraffe print and jeans. I find the Vee neck particularly flattering. The sailor trousers were a hard pass for me. IMHO they would only really work with a slim fitting top. I enjoyed another shopping trip, so fun.

  8. I liked the wide leg pants on you but not with that top. For some reason you looked washed out in it. Loved everything else and I would definitely get the hombre sweater and the long cardigan

Love those sailor pants on you Jennifer! you have narrow hips so the button effect is really great! I added several linen wide leg pants to my summer wardrobe last summer and really like wearing them. One reason is that I can wear them with flats whether they be cute sandals or sneakers. Also because they are comfortable in texas heat. They solved a wardrobe dilemma for me in that I no longer love shorts, which are cooler to wear, because….old lady knees. But the wide legs allow for air circulation and the linen is breathable. knees covered….problem solved.

I pretty much loved everything here. I’d love to try the sweaters as my shape is exactly opposite of yours. My shoulders are a bit narrow and the paunch in my middle and backside just doesn’t seem to want to cooperate with my half-hearted weightloss program. So I’m always curious to see how tunic or straight sided sweaters will hang on my frame. But everything is lovely!

  11. loved just about everything BUT those particular wide leg pants. I do kind of like wide leg pants, however, those look stiff and uncomfortable. Also, I’d like more tailoring between torso and knee which would also mean slimmer below the knee. They’d still be wide leg pants but better fitting. I’m getting to the point that even boot cut is too wide a cut. So nice there many, many styles and we can wear whatever we choose.

  12. Iā€™ve been watching the runway shows for spring 2021 and there are a lot of wide keg pants but in softer fabrics. I think these sailor pants are cute but with fashion sneakers and a less fussy, fitted top.
I love the blue Tunic top!
Skinnies are not on trend, rather straight keg. Iā€™ve been wearing the straight leg this winter and so, find skinnies now look old school. Iā€™m looking for cropped, straight leg jeans to wear with sneakers or sandals come spring. Itā€™s hard to find jeans that are not faded, distressed or have a chewed gem.

  13. I feel all the tops you featured do have their merits, my favourits being the giraffe print plus the ombre dyed one which I would snap up in a minute if it had a V-neckline. (Also like the polo style in your slide show.) As to the sailor pants; though a fan of wide legs I’m afraid I will pass namely because my preference is that of a classic design that is difficult to date and not so trend distinctive. -Brenda-

  14. You can wear anything and look good but today it was the sailor pant, although I would have rather seen a T-shirt or similar top, and a bit of a chunky heel to add length, or cropped a little to show a shoe (no not like the Bay City Rollers). I also really liked the straight leg Jean with the ombrƩ sweater, it was a fresh looking to spring look. I am looking towards shorter sweaters and longer legs for me for spring, tops that stop mid hip.

  15. I especially like the long teal sweater and the gingham sweater – which I’m going to order in the rosy color. I never bought into the skinny leg style so I’m happy that wide leg pants are now popular. However, these sailor pants look stiff & I wish you had tried them with an untucked hip length sweater like the gingham one. After loving jeans for 50 years I’m now tired of them & looking for alternatives for warm weather – which is bound to appear some day!

  16. No to the wide leg pants, blouse is pretty though. Glad to see you in blue again, it is such a gorgeous color on you!! Dip dye sweater is so cute and fresh for spring.

  17. Doreen McKay says:

Love the wide leg pant! I would not wear that particular blouse with the pant, but I did like the blouse as well. Sweaters were all great. In particular I really like a long sweater for column dressing, same colour top and bottom under the sweater. Enjoy your posts very much. Unfortunately Iā€™m in Canada so donā€™t shop where you do.

  18. Love the blue color on you. The trick with wide leg pants for me is the fabric, I prefer a soft fluid fabric, then the pants width folds around the leg nicely. Thanks for the DRD.

  19. Love the sweaters, I am too short for the wide leg sailor, so they are a no, no.
One of my favorite posts is the DRD’s.

  20. I like wide legged pants because they add balance to an outfit, and yours look fresh for spring. I like them fitted at the top of the leg for a slimmer look. They also sometimes need a heel for a polished look.

  21. I always enjoy your dressing room diaries. The outfits looked lovely on you. Iā€™m also not a big fan of wide leg pants. They wouldnā€™t look nice on me at all. I love the sweaters which put me in the mindset of spring. The J.Crew jeans that you wore in the store, can you be so can to tell me what side you had on. Many thanks!

      1. Thank you! Can you provide the link?

      2. Oops NM you did provide the link…senior moment šŸ˜‚

  22. Well, itā€™s nix for me on the sailor pants and dressy blouse. The sweaters are all very nice but that wide band creates an issue if you have any thickness in your torso. As you featured these sweaters with the band laying flat, I would not be happy with that look. Your slim hips can easily wear that style and maybe it actually helps balance out your total frame. That being said, I do like the tie dye sweater and may be able to style that by folding under the front band a bit. The colors in that sweater are simply gorgeous! Yes, yes to slim jeans! I donā€™t do leggings and would not leave the house in them. I find there are so many other options for pants that I havenā€™t ended to go that route.
Thank you for a spring update. We had an overnight low of negative 21 degrees!

  23. Ha, I am opposite from the other reviewers – I LOVE the wide leg sailor pants on you. I would like to see it with a different top, but the bottoms fit you so well. I agree with you, I think they’re supposed to be a bit shorter, if we’re supposed to use the model as reference. Dressing Room Diaries are my favorite posts šŸ„°

    1. I love wide-leg pants and jeans:) They provide a great balance for my wide shoulders.

  24. I love all the outfits minus the wide pants and blouse.
That cardigan was ā€œmarvelous ā€œ as my English sweet friend would say.

  25. Love these outfits, and especially the gingham sweater and dip dye sweater!

  26. Joyce Reardon says:

I did like all of the outfits except for the wide leg pants and the blouse. It might be because you are usually tailored and this took me by surprise
