Would You Wear It – Sweater Tunic

Would You Wear It – Sweater Tunic

Happy Saturday and welcome to the weekend. It’s very fall-like here in Vancouver which I am anxious to experience, starting at 5 pm Sunday…exactly 2 weeks after we crossed the border into Canada. I won’t say this quarantine has been tough but it has felt very long.

It’s no secret that women love to discuss fashion. I love to analyze and talk about fashion too… but never at the expense of another woman’s feelings. That’s why "would you wear it?" is the perfect venue for our discussion. Each week my friend Pam and I photograph a mannequin and ask you to tell us if you would wear what it’s modeling.

Please keep your opinions personal to you so other readers don’t get their feelings insulted.

So tell me, ladies, would you wear this look? How could you style it to work for your shape and lifestyle?

Here are a few weekend sale updates:

Nordstrom – today is the last day of the Nsale. This is a great sale for cashmere…so if the moths have been at yours this summer, have a look:) I love this sweater so much, I ended up ordering it in the Heather and Pink:)

Talbots – get ready for fall with 25% off your regular purchase PLUS Talbots is donating 10% net proceeds from sales this weekend to Dress For Success. Now more than ever, women need help seeking jobs so for every top you purchase this weekend, Talbots will donate a top!

Chico’s – 40% off full-priced dresses and sweaters, online only with the code 92666

Loft – 70% off seriously good steals, online only with the code LOVE.

J Crew – 35% off almost all fall faves with the code FALLISH. I adore cabled sweater but most are very warm so I’m always happy to find lighter weight ones like this one in cotton. The color is a perfect neutral to go with all my fall things, and I sized up so it would be nice and slouchy. I’m a sucker for Chanel-ish sweater jackets and this one looks really comfy.

Now let’s go see what Pam’s mannequin is wearing at Over 50 Feeling 40

Yes! I have similar sweaters and I love to wear them with leggings and boots or booties. I feel they look modern and I love to wear a long pendant or scarf. Would love to have one in cashmere!!! Thanks for the great posts !

Oh, wouldn’t I LOVE to wear cashmere . My skin is sensitive to all wool🙁. I would wear that style of sweater if it hung well. Then I would pair it with skinny full Length jeans or pants. I would wear ankle boots but not such shiny ones. This type of sweater looks comfy and cozy to me.

I love this sweater tunic and I would definitely wear it. I love the colour, so rich.

I would wear it with black leggings and black knee high boots; a black pencil skirt with black tights and black booties or skinny jeans and runners!!

Love the sweater — so classic! — and the pants (I’d prefer them slightly longer). The boots look much too heavy and clunky to me — I’d rather wear something a bit more slim-looking; I can see a black ballet flat with the right pants (channeling Audrey Hepburn?). Honestly I’m going to try to find the sweater right now!

Sweaters are one of the fun things about cooler weather and I would definitely wear this style! That particular coloring isn’t one of my flattering colors but I bet it comes in other colors

The sweater is great, but the color would not be good on me. I would like it in either black, navy or grey, or a jewel tone. I’d wear it with ankle length leggings, or slim denims.
The boot looks clunky to me, so that’s a definite no.
Hope you enjoying your Canadian getaway. I spent every summer until I was an adult in Vernon BC on Lake Okanogan. I love it there-beautiful country and nice people.

Hi. I love this sweater too and would buy it but at my age I would not wear tights but slim pants and the same boots! Totally my look.
Interested to read one of the ladies used to live in Vernon, B.C. Canada as that is where I live now.

I am looking forward to the sweater season.
I could not wear that colour it might look better in a brighter colour.
    Cashmere is worth the investment!
    Cute length for the pants.
Looking forward to a nice fall in Vancouver, enjoy🍁

I gave up on sweaters some years ago. I am allergic to wool, and cotton sweaters are too “stiff” for me. If I’m wearing a blouse with a collar and long sleeves, I might get away with a wool cardigan, but I no longer even try.

Re the comment that self-quarantine in Canada is now 10 days. Self-quarantine if you have been out of the country is still at 14 days. Like you, Jennifer, I have two friends who are anxiously waiting for Sunday for their quarantine to be over. They have had several phone calls and house calls to ensure they are, indeed, self isolating. Yahoo for Sunday!

I like the sweater, but in a different color (like ivory)and not so over sized.
Definitely need longer leggings or jeans and above the ankle boots or longer.
    Great casual look.

I like the classic color combo of camel & black but don’t like the oversize look of the sweater. Also, the neck of the sweater is too high for my short neck.

  12. Nancy Walden
    August 29, 2020 / 11:06 am

Bulky sweaters aren’t flattering on my curvy body. I have a short neck so I avoid large collars. The camel is pretty but not a color I look good in. The pants are a possibility but I would wear them with different shoes. I just don’t like the look of a bootie with a pant that short.

I love this classic look and the colors and I wish I could wear it but the collar is too big for me and I know I would always be thinking that! Love your cardigan Jennifer, gorgeous choice, I went for the Vince crew neck cashmere marzipan color and it is so beautiful I am very tempted to buy another.
    Happy weekend:)

This could easily be my winter “go to” casual outfit, though as I am from the northeast, I do agree with the person from Canada who would not wear it with pants as short as shown.

      August 29, 2020 / 2:22 pm

Me too, don’t like cropped leggings especially with those boots and sweater needs to be longer

Don’t ware slip skirts since they show off tummy area, not flattering!

Heavy sweaters might work outdoors but otherwise, I run HOT!

Beautiful sweater! I love to layer and would probably wear a chambray shirt or a white shirt under the sweater … with the collar popped and the cuffs rolled.

I dislike this sort of sleeve on any sweater. To me they just bring the eye down and give a negative feel. Sleeve seams look better at the shoulder. They have been seen everywhere for a few years and I never buy anything with this sort of sleeve – just a ‘downer’ look in my opinion.

Love the camel colour as I am a 70 year young redhead…being petite and a bit curvy I do not really think this look would work for my body shap. I have narrow shoulders ..more of an “A” shape with small waist and curvey bottom. I prefer long open cardigans in Fall as I feel they do not tend to cling like many tunics do on curvey body types.I can get a more slimming look and even wear a belt under a long cardigan for definition. Thie look on the mannequin would be great on those who have wider shoulders and narrow hips..and even flatter behinds.I also prefer a longer pant and flat ankle booties with a Fall look.. Cashmere is beautiful but unfortunately I am allergic so stick to synthetic or viscose blends. I also wear a lot of the Chico’s Traveler collection as the softer knit works well and is a nice quality..
Thanks again for your updates. Once again find it refreshing to see what’s happening in my home country. I moved from the Bay Area of California and now live on the tropical
East Coast of Australia. A very different fashion scene here. I do order some things from Chico’s but try to adapt to buying Australian goods.Reading your blog helps with homesickness 😊

Although the outfit is pretty, I wouldn’t wear it. At 5’3”, I tend to steer away from an outfit that is straight across my hips and is high at the ankles. The two strong color, horizontal lines on my body would create three definitive sections on my short stature, the outfit wouldn’t “flow” on me. Additionally, I have a large bust, so a tunic like this would make me look like more of a “box”. A body skimming, less structured neckline, more tonal color combination, ankle length pant and rounded hem on the sweater would be much more appealing to me.

    August 29, 2020 / 7:47 am

If the sweater on the table is the same style, then yes to this. The pink is beautiful. This would be a cool fall sweater for me as the thought of putting a coat over it for winter is a ‘ no thanks’. The jeans would have to be full length and I would wear with a suede ankle boot. I would also add a longer substantial necklace, because that is just who I am. Have fun together Sunday evening and beyond.

    August 29, 2020 / 7:44 am

I like the sweater and would definitely wear it. Would wear longer leggings and probably different boots.

    August 29, 2020 / 7:41 am

I love a sweater tunic and I am only 5’4″. That is my about all that is in my drawers in the winter. Love them with leggings and skinny (stretchy) jeans. The knit must be ultra soft though.

  22. Mandie
    August 29, 2020 / 7:29 am

The sweater isn’t a color that would work well for me and looks potentially a bit too boxy for me, but I do wear tunic sweaters and leggings with boots frequently through fall and winter. The skin showing between the pants and boots would just make my short little body look that much shorter so that’s a hard no for me.

Also technically you’re supposed to wait until day 15 to walk out those doors (son moved to Whistler in July).

  23. Barbara K.
    August 29, 2020 / 7:19 am

I do wear tunic length garments and leggings and feel confident in that combo. The color of the sweater isn’t good for my complexion, but I like the style. I couldn’t wear it since all that fabric around my neck would bring on my own personal everlasting summer! But maybe a boatneck style?

  24. Elaine @ Following Augustine
    August 29, 2020 / 7:01 am

I would try the sweater on. I’m not sure about the colour or how the shape would look on me. If I did wear it, it wouldn’t be with cropped pants. It’s clearly a winter outfit and I’d freeze my ankles here in Canada! I’d choose full length leggings or skinny jeans.

  25. Deb
    August 29, 2020 / 6:48 am

Nope -not for me – too much fabric and drab color. A closer fitting cashmere v-neck is more my style -maybe in a grey or navy and still a long length with high boots

  26. Pat
    August 29, 2020 / 6:43 am

This sweater is a little too boxy for my shape and cropped pants or leggings are unflattering on me, so I can’t wear this particular outfit. I think the booties would look better with longer pants.

  27. Sue
    August 29, 2020 / 6:42 am

I agree with Rose that slim knee boots would look better with this outfit, balancing all that sweater on top. The sweater could be worn two ways, I think, either as cozy loungewear at home—then with fuzzy socks😊 OR as outerwear with layers underneath and the boots in the autumn. It’s not a good look to wear under a winter coat because of the bulk. Living where I do where winter is long, I almost always start my outfit choices with what coat I am going to wear and coordinate inward.

    • MRSBEN2
      August 29, 2020 / 7:52 am

As I live in a climate that sounds similar to Sue’s, she has pretty well said everything that I feel about this outfit. With that said; the only thing that I might add is, I personally prefer a crop pant to have a more tapered hemline in its leg rather than the one that these appear to have. For accessories I’d probably add my favourite/vintage long rope chain necklace or pewter (brushed finish) salamander brooch (a great conversational piece) to its collar and a cross-body bag.

Footnote: Glad you are no long longer under quarantine. Know how it feels as was myself back in July after waiting one week when the hair salons opened up (since in the worse way in need of a hair cut) , did get a call two days later from Public Health who tracked me for fourteen days. Fortunately, no symptoms and in recent conversation with the girl whom I go to apparently the salon had been reported by some over zealous patron who felt they were not taking enough precautions. Oh don’t know if your daughter has heard; that the quarantine period has (Federally) been reduced to ten days thus believe that is for right across Canada until otherwise advised.

This particular tunic has a little too much fabric for me. I do wear tunics but just not this one.

  29. Anne
    August 29, 2020 / 6:12 am

I like the look but I don’t like sweaters. I know, weird when I live in a country that can go down to -30 Celsius in the winter. If it were a different material I would wear it.

  30. Joanne Long
    August 29, 2020 / 6:11 am

I like the style of the sweater but the colour would not suit me. The pants are too short for Vancouver fall/winter rain.

    • Janet
      August 29, 2020 / 7:01 am

I can’t wait until it’s cool enough to think about wearing sweaters! However this one is too large and shapeless for me. I agree with others here that the pants are not a practical length for winter wear and I don’t think the shoes are a good choice with cropped pants. I don’t feel comfortable or confident when my legs are cut in half and my feet look gigantic. Can cropped pants please go away or at least can we see more full length pants when we shop?

  31. Pamela Over 50 Feeling 40
    August 29, 2020 / 6:06 am

I would wear this if the sweater has a good fit and is not too big, and I agree with others that the pants would look better on me longer. It is a pretty sweater. Probably too warm for South Texas.

  32. Pamela
    August 29, 2020 / 6:02 am

Love it! This is my winter go to; tunic sweater, ankle pants & booties!
Love the camel & black colour combo. So classic! I do not own a cashmere sweater but this outfit inspires me to invest in one this year! Thanks for the inspiration!

  33. Sandy
    August 29, 2020 / 5:48 am

I like the sweater, but not with those pants or the boots. I wear sweater tunics a lot in the winter. Don’t like turtlenecks so this neckline would be good. I would have to see how it looks on. Would like it better in a jewel tone. Before my hair turned silver I liked the tans and browns but brighter colors look better now. Would wear long jeans or leggings and ankle or knee boots. Would add a necklace

  34. Leslie B
    August 29, 2020 / 5:48 am

I live the look. In fact that”s pretty much my uniform from late fall into winter. I might change up the shoes but I wouldn’t say for sure until I tried them on. My favourite piece is the sweater.

  35. Barb
    August 29, 2020 / 5:48 am

I love tunic sweaters but I’m not a huge fan of cashmere. They make me too hot. I also prefer a boat or lower neckline. Again, too hot! The overall look is very comfy looking. Looking forward to cooler weather when we can wear something like this!

  36. Kixmiller Deborah
    August 29, 2020 / 5:38 am

Yes, I love this look! I would probably choose pants that were a little longer as I’m 5’2” and need every inch of elongation.

  37. Lidia
    August 29, 2020 / 5:36 am

For outside wear, I would wear the sweater with different pants (longer) and a full bootie. I would buy the sweater in a smaller size…I like the styling but for work, I don’t like it quite so ‘boxy’. This is a bit oversize for my taste – but I might wear this size over a softer casual pant as loungewear for cozy nights at home.

  38. sheryl
    August 29, 2020 / 5:36 am

have mercy, if i tried this on, the whole store would run screaming.
i have size 9 feet for one thing, i couldnt even consider a style like that, they would look huge on me.
leggings are cute, if longer, with a pair of pointed toe flats.
the sweater is cute, but on a much smaller woman than i am…the collar i like, but im sure it would annoy me…the cut of the sweater wouldnt flatter me at all.

  39. Susan Kelley
    August 29, 2020 / 5:27 am

LIke it but would take a pass. It won’t get that cold until Jan here in NE FL.Always like how cosy those sweaters look, but alas not for here. Stay safe!

  40. jmp
    August 29, 2020 / 5:19 am

I really like this sweater but would prefer it in a different color. I would pair it with a pair of skinny jeans or longer black leggings. Not a fan of these booties, I’d choose knee high boots instead. I struggle with how to wear shorter pants with booties. They always look funny on me.

  41. Laura
    August 29, 2020 / 5:09 am

Yes, love it – except for the shoes!

  42. Jan
    August 29, 2020 / 5:03 am

If I am purchasing a cashmere sweater, it must check all my “must have” boxes. I do love the split turtleneck on this sweater but after that “not so much”. The color, dropped shoulder and long, boxy fit would do nothing to create a longer, leaner look. If you have long legs and slim hips this would work. That’s not me!! The leggings look too short in this photo and the booties appear to be enormous. I do want to add a new cashmere this fall but I need to keep looking.

  43. Michelle Hamric
    August 29, 2020 / 4:58 am

Yes, I would definitely wear this sweater! I have a similar style sweater that I love to wear when it gets cold and I want to feel all warm and cozy. I have a royal blue sweater because that color better suits me than beiges and tans. I’d wear this outfit in the Fall with ankle boots and then move to a full-length riding boot.

  44. Paulette Levy
    August 29, 2020 / 4:49 am

Yes! I would wear this and actually own a very similar long sweater from Anthropologie (winter 2019) in a tawny color like this. With leggings it’s great here in New England as our late autumns and winters can be frosty, to say the least! It got a lot of wear….and will again this winter! Love this look. (Not too sure on these shoes however?)

  45. Deb
    August 29, 2020 / 4:48 am

Yes, I would wear the sweater with a long pendant necklace. I like long pants or leggings with booties or tall boots. Being from New Hampshire I love sweaters that cover my butt to stay warm! Enjoy getting out of quarantine!

  46. Jenice Ferguson
    August 29, 2020 / 4:46 am

Love the outfit, and every Fall and Winter have a sweater similar to this. Would probably wear it with skinny jeans. Also have a taupe boot similar to the black one. Great outfit!

  47. Debbie Bell
    August 29, 2020 / 4:45 am

This is a great cozy and casual outfit for around home in my opinion. Adding a necklace or hair band completes the look.
As an apple, I like to reverse the dark colour to the top when going out. I’d where it with casual leather slides.
I haven’t tried booties yet- we get so
much snow come winter, I love tall boots.

  48. Ellen
    August 29, 2020 / 4:44 am

I love sweater tunics in the winter! I probably wouldn’t buy this one because of the side split collar. I do like a nice cowl neck without the split though. The tan color would not work for me, but might reconsider in a different color.
I would not wear the short pants with those booties. If my ankles are cold, I am cold, so if it’s cool enough for the sweater it is too cold for bare ankles! LOL I also prefer my pants to come to the top of my shoes. Never was a fan of “high waters” except maybe in hot weather with a sleek (not clunky) pair of shoes.
I do like the unadorned booties and might like them with longer leggings or slim pants.

  49. Patti Shannon
    August 29, 2020 / 4:43 am

I love the sweater but I’d prefer it in a bolder color…perhaps deep purple or Kelly green. I’d wear it with jeans but I don’t care for the short pants and booties.

  50. Susan McClelland
    August 29, 2020 / 4:42 am

I like the outfit but since I’m violently allergic to wool, the sweater is a no-go for me. However, I would wear the pants and booties. I would also wear the pants with high ankle boots. The booties would look great with jeans.

Vancouver is one of my favourite cities – mountains on one side, the ocean on the other. Enjoy!

  51. JILL
    August 29, 2020 / 4:42 am

I love the look and have a couple of tunic sweaters. But usually too warm where I live in Southern California, and they must be really full to fit my big hips. I prefer the long cardigans.

  52. MP
    August 29, 2020 / 4:41 am

This is too much sweater for me. Just too much — to baggy, sleeves are long, dull color. I don’t like the length of the pants. I looked at the booties — I don’t like the big elastic inserts at all. I prefer a zipper. I would walk past this outfit.

  53. Gaye
    August 29, 2020 / 4:41 am

Love this and yes I would wear it

  54. Diane
    August 29, 2020 / 4:39 am

I think it looks great, but with different shoes. I would have a cream colour for me, though & maybe an interesting necklace.

  55. Beth
    August 29, 2020 / 4:27 am

This is a great sweater and one to explore. I would look for it in a more interesting color. I don’t like things. Around my neck so the neckline IG this would be good for me. I hate the “high water”pants and those shoes with it though. I only like pants that come to the top of my shoe although I am ok with some of the ones that come just to the ankle but those that stop several inches above the ankle are just ugly to me as are those shoes with it. What I really loved this week is that long cashmere sweater. It may become my daughter’s Christmas present. And mine.

  56. Rose
    August 29, 2020 / 4:24 am

I like tunics with leggings or skinny pants. I wear them often in the fall and winter. This sweater is too loose and flowy for my body type. A tall woman would look great with this style. I would also wear knee boots instead of booties with these pants. I think the booties would look better if the pants were a little longer, i.e., only a little bit of ankle showing.
