Would You Wear It- Casual Linen Shorts Outfit

Happy Wednesday ladies. I want to thank you for your prayers and well wishes for my husband after his lung cancer diagnosis. If I did not reply to your comment, please know that I did read it and am so very touched. Many of you graciously shared your personal cancer stories in the comments, which inspired hope in other readers who are battling this dreaded disease! This supportive community is one of the best parts of this blog. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

There’s no doubt that summer has arrived in all its glory so I have a casual linen shorts outfit for you today. It’s time once again for our mid-week mannequin. Each week my friend Pam and I share a mannequin we photographed and ask our readers if they would wear what it’s modeling. Stores dress mannequins to showcase their newest merchandise and inspire our purchases. Some are great, others are a disaster.

I love you to share if and how you could style these pieces to work for your shape and lifestyle. Please keep your comments constructive so we can all get styling ideas from each other.

So what do you think? Would you wear this look?

I had no idea that linen shorts were such a popular item! They are literally everywhere this summer. Here are a few that caught my eye.

Here’s what’s trending on AWSL this week-

white sandals

These braided sandals from Talbots are super popular. I classic white thong is so useful all summer.

striped blue woman's shirt

This classic cotton shirt in Empire Stripe

clarks annadel wedge on Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life

These Clarks wedges are very popular with good reason. The cork wedge absorbs shock when you walk and are nice and stable to walk in.

Now let’s head over to Over 50 Feeling 40 and see what Pam’s mannequin is modeling.

Thanks for reading and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

I would not because I don’t wear shorts, but love the look if I did!!

So sorry to hear about your husband’s diagnosis. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Love this outfit! Very classic and timeless. Would pair a white short sleeve blouse or tee with the shorts as I live in the hot and very humid South. Shorts with a 7 inch inseam look best on me so I would shorten these. Great crossbody! These neutral pieces would go with so many other things in my wardrobe, I may have to make a purchase! Definitely a winning outfit for me. For reference I am 5′ 8″ and athletic body shape age 59.

Love, love the luck. I would love the shorts more in a capri but the white blouse and silver jewelry would be fantastic with my silver hair. The pieces are classics that could be paired with basics in my wardrobe.

I don’t do shorts, so it’s a “no” from me. I’m cooler in a long flowy maxi dress.

I would totally wear this, but with a pearl lariat necklace I just purchased. I thought that because I’m 69 years old, I shouldn’t wear shorts; however, I still have nice legs (at least I think so), and I live in St. Louis, Missouri, where we have 100% humidity and 100+ degree days. I perspire easily, so I either wear shorts and a tank top or maxi dresses/skirts. This is such a classic look, which I love, and I would pair it with a pair of red or navy wedge sandals. A winner!

The outfit looks nice but it’s not for me. I seldom wear shorts. I’d rather wear a skirt! I own one button-up shirt and it’s a knit that works with my curvy body. I’ve never felt that the lines of a basic white men’s style shirt were a good look on me. When I wear shorts or a summer skirt, I wear a semi-fitted t or a wide-strapped tank.

Love the shorts! I would definitely wear them as long as they weren’t too short. White washes me out, so I would choose a shirt in a different colour.

Elegant, classic and tailored- it checks off all the boxes.

Very classic, I would wear it if the shorts were long.
Linen is so classic in the summer,

I am behind in my emails so I just now saw the post about your husband’s diagnosis. I am very sorry to hear this but it seems like you have an excellent support system and have caught this beast early. I wish your husband good health. My husband had cancer but unfortunately his was not found until it was stage four. It was stomach cancer which is one of the “sneaky ones” that doesn’t give you any signs or symptoms until it is very advanced. I will pray for you both.

I don’t like linen that much I have to say. But I do wear shorts. The blouse I like a lot.

Love both the blouse and the shorts, however can count on one hand the number of times I’ve worn the latter (as was always self conscious of my long legs) though I did wear my share of dress culottes or mini skirts when they were in fashion during my late teens/early twenties … ☺. That said; as now in my senior years I only have one pair, purchased two years ago and I’ve still haven’t worn them come to think of it …. lol!

I would wear this outfit minus the necklace. It is very classic, & the vertical stripe on the shorts would be leg lengthening. I might get used to the wrinkles that come with linen, but I’m not sure. I’m so sorry to hear of your husband’s diagnosis. I will be sending prayers & positive thoughts his way.

Love the outfit- with cap sleeves on a hot day , or a cami under for mid day, awesome!
I never tie a blouse under my substantial bust. Is there a way to do it without adding bulk?
Age old question, though again, may be that you have blogged about it in the past: can you hide bulges with bulges( belts, ties, pockets etc? Or is it best to draw the eye somewhere else like the turned collar accomplishes?
    Thanks from warm Southampton, Ontario!

The good – I love the soft, muted, low contrast look of this and I prefer natural fibers. The bad – these shorts are too full and too long for my frame. I am too fair for that much white.

I wish I could wear this look! I like it, but it would not flatter me and I would feel very uncomfortable in it.

  22. JUDY
    July 1, 2020 / 9:27 am

I love this look and would definitely wear it even with my 73 year old scarred legs! Unfortunately, the shorts- in a petite size- are only available in very large sizes in the gray and not available at all in the other color. I would not be wearing the shirt much in the summer as it gets so very hot here in Texas. I really like short sleeves for this time of year.

I LOVE this look! Cute shorts and White shirts are always a favorite!

I have these shorts! They are very comfortable if on a car vacation or it’s just hot out. I love the crisp blouse, but I switch out a crisp white sleeveless blouse with hoops and a straw purse when it is over 100 degrees. The necklace is darling and it would wear it with the long sleeve white blouse in the evening or when it cools down.

I love this look but I feel more comfortable wearing a skort instead of shorts. It’s crazy because the skort would be the same length as shorts but for some reason I feel more comfortable in them and not as self conscious about my 69 year old pale legs!

  28. Mary Lanteigne
    July 1, 2020 / 8:52 am

love this outfit so classy, but could not wear , not with my 72 year legs. my husband fought cancer and won so my prayers for you both is that the same will be for you.

  29. Linda
    July 1, 2020 / 8:28 am

I love this outfit but these 68 year old legs would not look good in the shorts. Even though I work out a lot and focus on my legs you can’t hide the wrinkly legs. But I love the outfit!

  30. Linda
    July 1, 2020 / 8:02 am

Cute outfit! I would love to wear it but my legs wouldn’t look good in them. Fifteen years ago I would have worn this entire outfit.

  31. Glenda

If I still wore shorts these would be in my cart. I love this look though. A crisp shirt with a popped collar always looks sharp. I would forego the necklace and opt for hoop earrings.

  35. Katrina
    July 1, 2020 / 6:31 am

My first thought: why wear a long sleeved collared blouse if it’s hot enough to wear linen shorts? A fresh white tee or sleeveless blouse seem much better. In hot weather I ditch any showy jewelry & opt for studs only.

I agree 100%. I’m sad to read that some women don’t wear shorts or sleeveless tops because they don’t like how their bodies look. We should embrace our whole selves.

I don’t usually wear shorts but these look very classic, really like that. Love a crisp white shirt but would not wear it with the necklace. Probably just wear a bracelet.

  39. Carol
    July 1, 2020 / 6:18 am

Very attractive and cool looking. That dove grey is a very low key cool vibe giving color. If you went for a sleeveless white blouse then the grey cardigan in the back ground would be a great piece to throw over your shoulders after sunset at a party. Or even tie around the neck/shoulders as you sometimes do, Jennifer.

Love the the outfit but like others would prefer pants. Necklace is beautiful but a little overwhelming on this out for . Smaller necklace and some bangles maybe!

  41. Eileen
    July 1, 2020 / 6:02 am

I love linen and natural fabrics, but the construction of a string closure , I never buy, as I’m a pear shape, and like a slimmer waist closure, and a high waist style. I believe linen is more eco friendly, so that’s good. When I have vacationed in Europe, I noticed linen is very popular .

  42. Mary
    July 1, 2020 / 5:43 am

Cute outfit for a summer day. I would wear the blouse with shorts that are slimmer. I like the fabric, and length of the shorts but not the width. I have a nice straw tote that would look great here, and I would ditch the necklace for bracelets.

  43. Joanne Long

I’ve been loving linen this summer! I’ve found some nice pieces on ThredUp. So cool and breezy!

  45. Belinda

I love this look! Would also love the shorts in a cropped pant. My legs aren’t shorts worthy but living in SC sometimes you just have to ignore the flaws.
Nothing classier than crisp white shirt!

Well, now here’s a store display that would draw me in for a closer look! The color mix is lovely and the cool and comfortable style are just what I’m looking for. I do error on a more conservative style and this certainly appears to fill the bill! If I could switch out the shorts for a pant and wear the white shirt open with a darker grey tank, I would be In my zone of confidence! Bottom line though…..great look!!

  47. Theresa
    July 1, 2020 / 5:07 am

I agree with the comment that “ my legs do not come out in public” 😂, but I like the blouse and would wear this style bottoms if it came in pants. I like the wrinkled linen look in the right context…to me it looks young and casual

  48. Terri
    July 1, 2020 / 5:00 am

It’s a beautiful outfit, but my legs are thin and these shorts are too big in the leg. Over the years I’ve learned that a closer-fitting leg looks much better on me.

  49. Susan Kelley
    July 1, 2020 / 4:57 am

My legs, with lots of surgerical scars do not come out in public, therefore would not wear these, even though I like the look! As pants definitely I would wear them.Love the necklace!(looks like Chicos to me!) glad things are coming along for you and your. Stay busy, It does help get past the cancer issue! Know that is hard to do with all our current restrictions. But you must have the most beautiful garden. I enjoy the way everything seems to grow in Cal.not burn out as in Fla. every year,we think we have a love back area and then the heat comes and its bye bye flowers, etc. Stay safe. Best wishes!

I have these shorts, and wore them once on a very hot day. Cute, but sorry-I cannot get used to wrinkles. I always try linen bottoms, then never seem to wear more than once or twice. I do better with linen tops for some reason. But they are very well made, and fit perfectly

LOVE this look and would definitely wear this. Classic Clean and sophisticated. Popping the collar gives this outfit it’s cool vibe. YES YES YES!!!

    • Jane
      July 1, 2020 / 7:27 am

I would leave the linen shorts for those who are long and lean. I would look for a cropped leg, wide trouser in similar style for the summer. Love the crisp blouse, a real skin saver in the sun.

Continue to Pray for your husband and others battling cancer. Such a terrible Disease. Hopefully one if the many new advances in treatment will be the answer.

Yes linen shorts—I’m eye 😳ing them. They are something We can use here on the very humid East Coast. Lol. Love this outfit! It speaks to me! The white shirt looks crisp and cool as does the totally neutral shades in pale tones.

It’s not my typical style but I would wear this…but I’m not a big fan of shorts. I would look for breezy “linen” pants with a subtle stripe. Thanks for sharing!
