Classic Camel Coat Over a Column of Black
Classics and neutrals have always been the backbone of my wardrobe. I find them the most cost-effective way to dress which allows me to wear pieces year after year. Today I’m styling a classic camel coat. All the other pieces of my outfit are classic too which makes it an easy look to replicate by shopping from your closet.
I started with a simple turtleneck. In truth, this oneĀ is very deep navy but as close to black as you can get. Nothing keeps me warmer in chilly weather so I wear them a lot.
I’m wearing them with my straight black jeans which I’ve had for years. Trends will change but a straight leg jean is always in style because… you guessed it, they’re classic. Mine have been washed more times than I can count but because they’re Talbots never-fade black, they are still pure black.
You may remember this scarf from several other times I’ve worn it. I fell in love the first time I spotted it. Then I waited and saved, and saved some more… before I finally bit the bullet and made the investment. Treasures are worth waiting for and I love it all the more for waiting. To be honest, I would rather have one fabulous scarf than 3 mediocre ones.
This dark turtleneck could be harsh against my complexion so I love how the scarf adds a pop of light. The pattern also picks up the camel from my coat, my complexion color, and has a few of my favorite blues.
I kept my jewelry extremely simple with just these twisted silver hoops which were a Christmas present from my daughter. I love them so much, I have to make myself not wear them every day.
My boots are plain and simple (similar boots)making them the perfect option to cover my ankles when it’s too cold for a ballet flat. Let’s not forget my hat. For me, they are an almost every day accessory. There’s no point in trying to treat sun damage and rack more up as you go:)

Love your coat! Camel is the best neutral; goes with black, navy, grays, browns – everything – making it a best choice for an investment piece. The double-breasted cut is a bonus, wraps nicely to keep out the breeze. For those who aren’t fond of camel, that’s where a scarf can fill in your “flattering color.” I have many scarves, thin/thick, patterned/plain. For me, living in SoCal, scarves are a must-have. Turtlenecks? Not so much; a great look, but too much heat. I found a black sweater-knit turtleneck dickey this winter, giving me the look without the sweat š I enjoy your posts, thank you!

Sending you a HUGE THANK YOU for showing boots. There are too many Bloggers who have one post with boots in December and then it is all bare ankles after that. Bare ankles are not an option from December to April for many of us….actually a recipe for frostbite. You look fabulous and perfectly dressed for Winter

Love camel and black. When it rains, I always wear my camel trench which is also a raincoat, with my black sweater and pants, throw on my leopard boots and I feel ready for the rain. I canāt do hats because I have a small head and pixie cut too. I heard a requirement of an anchor woman on TV is having a big head. No kidding!
Eve: I have a very small head too. This means buying hats that actually Sized. You measure your head and choose your size by that measurement….not many companies do this anymore but there are some. Check out Conner Hats They have so many styles that something will suit you. connerhats.com

Thank you, Jayne. It is still pretty swollen and the dark purple marks are still very visible. Today, I noticed I am peeling so I guess that means it is on the mend:)
Itās slow going but steady. Iām expecting to be swollen for a few weeks.

So you took a timeless color and style and by adding your trademark hat, created a more personalized outfit. This seems to be a lesson in being true to our personal style and how to add interesting accessories to achieve that look.
I did take a serious look at that coat but declined the urge to purchase it. Right now, I would have very little use for a new coat.

Fabulous look!!! Love the black and camel vibe. In my younger days the camel coat was my absolute favorite . Since my hair color has now changed to salt and pepper, the camel does not look good with my overall coloring. So look forward to your posts everyday, you are indeed a beautiful woman?

I have always admired a good camel coat on others but when I try them on, it just looks awful with my skin and hair. My mother had a beautiful one and accessorized it with large broaches and scarves and looked great, but not on me every time I tried it on. The hat makes the look and would make people turn and ask themselves who is that, is she famous? The scarf, I find it so frustrating when the pattern is beautiful, and then is gone when it is tied up, at least you know how gorgeous it is, a little secret to make you smile.

Black and Camel have always been my go to colors. I remember stocking my work wardrobe with those colors so I had many mix and match outfits. I choose other colors but when I needed a classic and professional look I work black and camel.

Love the look and it’s easy to shop my closet to create this one. A camel coat was given to me years ago by a friend it no longer fit. Time to pull it out. Love your posts on creating looks with items in my closet — as well as suggestions about where to get the pieces I may be missing. Silver hoop earrings would be a good addition – those will have to go on a wish list!

I used to have a camel coat. I bought it at a vintage clothing store in Ashland, OR. I loved it, but I don’t remember what happened to it. They’re timeless
