Classic Spring Trench Coat
I finally donated my old black trench coat last year. I’d spent, what seemed like a fortune at the time, and wore the heck out of it for 20+ years, so I got my money’s worth.Ā I have a pale pink Talbots trench I love, but its color limits what I can wear it with so this year, I bought this classic spring trench coat.
When I spotted this one from Loft, it seemed like just what I’ve been hunting for. Rather than make a statement like the colored ones, this trench feels like a clean slice of white bread that will go with everything.
The name says swing, but I find it a straight and relaxed fit. It’s got a long back vent for ease of movement and button tabs on the sleeves…otherwise, it’s simple, sleek, and classic.
All the doodads have been left off this classic spring trench coat which makes it more versatile. The single-breasted style is generically slimming and the almondine color is a neutral beige.
Even the belt is void of the buckles that many camel trench coats come with. This unfussy coat will be a workhorse in my wardrobe for years to come. It comes in regular and petite, sizes XXS-XXL. I am wearing a small petite here and find the sleeves a bit short so I ordered the regular small, and am happier with the fit.
I treasure this umbrella which was a gift from my husband back in the 80s. Now they call it vintage. There are lots of them available used on eBay. One of my favorite parts of this umbrella is the amazing wooden handle which I often hang my handbag on when I’m trying to carry lots of things.
Under the trench, I’m wearing my favorite stretch, washable crepe Eileen Fisher pants which I snap up every time a new color goes on sale. They wash like a dream and are perfect for travel because they’re as comfy as leggings but look more polished.

I have a beige trench coat from Jones New York. These are classic pieces that never go out of style. Living in Los Angeles I don’t wear it a lot, but it’s a mainstay of my wardrobe.

Barbour which found on the Nordstrom website – I always wanted one of their rain coats. It was the only single-breasted trench I found that I thought looked good on me. I know I will use it for decades. Such a classic look!
I have ordered the Talbotās one in Raspberry, but I am more of a neutral person who wants to try more color. Now Iām undecided. rats
Liking the classic styling of this Trench as not overdone and presume you will get a lot of mileage out of it with its neutral color as well. The umbrella is also a keeper particularly with its sentimental value.

Footnote: Where I am Mother Nature seems totally confused weather wise, as one moment light flurries then rain showers follow …. lol! Also depending upon where you are, there is evidence of what I call ‘snirt’; a mix of snow and dirt unlike the luscious greens of landscape in your photo.

Several years ago I bought a simple trench coat like this in a black material with a slight sheen (provides interest and great feel to the touch, but not garish). It has black buttons and same-material belt, and a little extra material on the bottom half for some nice swing. It was Nordstrom’s house brand and on sale…very affordable! I wear it often for warmth as well as wet weather and get compliments as if it were brand new. So glad I bought it when I saw it there š no need for a new one, although I’m tempted by the “fun” colors and patterns
Living in the Seattle area with lots of grey days, I always go for color. And I do have the Talents coat in the raspberry! But I also have a reversible black one that is a very subtle leopard on one side. Yours is great, too.

Iāve been eyeing that Loft trench but am not sure how it would work with my pale āwinterā coloring and white/ gray hair. I think it might wash me out. It looks great on you, though! Iāve been on the hunt for a gray, single-breasted trench in petite sizing, which is apparently a unicorn! I currently own a navy LL Bean raincoat with a zip closure, zip-out lining, and removable hood. It has gotten many years of wear! I also have a dark red, belted Ralph Lauren trench that doesnāt fit me wellātoo fitted at the waist and too short waisted. In addition, I have short raincoats from both Landās End and LL Bean. I live in Western PA, where we get a lot of cold spring rain (and even snow this week!)
I, too, live in a windy area that turns umbrellas inside out. I have a bright red rain jacket, with lining and hood, from Boden, which I love because it’s so cheerful on a blah, rainy day, and it can be really cool by the water. I also have a Talbots plaid trench with traditional styling and belt. It can be dressed up or made more casual. Having said that, I love the Loft trench and have been eying it on and off for a while. It’s a great style — just hard to justify when I have others. Love, love, love your umbrella! My husband has a ‘vintage’ black one with wooden handle, but yours is fabulous.

My raincoat is from Eddie Bauer. It is dark blue with a hood and a zip out lining. I am very happy with it. EB coats are very well made and some day, when itās āvintageā, I will still be keeping it.
I bought the Rainfoil Trench coat from Eddy Bauer. Itās the perfect length, great in the rain, and very comfortable. Eddy Bauer has wonderful sales and their clothes are always top quality.
Nice trench coat. Love the color, but once a stain gets on a light colored coat or jacket it is very hard to get the stain out. I prefer the darker colors for this reason, just a thought.
We don’t get much rain here, but I do have a black London Fog with a zip out liner for warmth. I like to use my trench for cool weather mostly. I carry a fold up umbrella for ease and convenience.
Landsend has raincoats with hoods for those who are looking for that. I did buy one from there last year.

I love trench coats as they are classic and upgrade any outfit. I have a classic beige, black and red. Always looking for fun colors. I ordered a Zebra print one from Nordstrom many years ago but at the time it was outside of my comfort zone and I returned it. Now I wish I had kept it!
I had a classic London Fog trench coat back in the 80’s that I wore forever. It had a warm zip out lining for winter. I regret so much that I didn’t have it hemmed when shorter ones came into style. I ended up donating it. I really like the Loft one.
Love that coat-itās very similar to my vintage Burberry, with zip out plaid lining and matching plaid silk scarf. Iāll never get rid of it, it has no flaps, is not double breasted, just very simple swing styling. True classics never wear out. I had it slightly shortened years ago and never regretted it, now itās more the length of yours.
And love that umbrella too!

Love a classic trench and I do win one- vintage letās say from BR over 10 years ago. Iām now looking for a wonderful water resistant jacket with hood as I do not carry umbrellas either. Our windy rain is too fierce here. Umbrellas have short lives in our area.
Trench coats are a great topic right now, as I am in the market for one. I have an LL Bean raincoat that is at least 15 years old and still works very well but is starting to look a little worn. However, I cannot find a new trench that I like because I must have a hood. Holding an umbrella is not an option for me. It is quite windy in my little area of NE Ohio and umbrellas don’t last. Plus, I’m usually carrying my purse and computer bag and maybe my lunch bag, so having both hands available is ideal. I find it almost idiotic that hoods are not included these days. I’m not in Paris where people just stroll around with their umbrellas. I’m going in and out of offices and cars and other buildings. Maybe I’m too practical and not worried about style at all on this topic! I’ve searched with no luck. Would appreciate if you would pass along any you may find!

For me, this is a great value from Loft that offers classic style but quite affordable also. I could style this single breasted trench without the belt. Simply leave unbuttoned and roll the sleeves a bit. Itās a lined coat and will swing and drape beautifully. It doesnāt need to be tucked away waiting for a rain cloud! Lol

I love trench coats and have 3 – all different colours and weights. My favourite one is purple, but as it’s the lightest weight, I get the least use of it.
Your umbrella reminds me of one I had from the 80’s from Canadian designer Marilyn Brooks. It was red fabric with a painted wooden handle – I think it was flowers painted on the handle. I used it for many, many years but lost it about 10 years ago in a move. It was so unique – I wish I still had it.
