Classic Striped Tee and White Jeans
Happy Wednesday, ladies. Is there anything more classic for spring than a navy and white? Toss in some stripes, pearls, and a linen cardigan and you have a recipe for modern, comfortable style. Today’s ootd is a classic striped tee and white jeans with the kick of some metallic sneakers.
A pair of white jeans is one of my go-to summer wardrobe staples, but not just any white jeans. I’m pretty persnickety about fit and how opaque they are so I was thrilled to discover this pair by Madewell. Brands have good and bad collections, but the denim by Madewell has been stellar this year.
These vintage high-rise jeans have a very funny description. It says these are “the mom jeans (if your mom was a 90’s supermodel). Where do they come up with these things? Madewell describes this as their “brand-new white Heritage Stretch denim that has an old-school look with a touch of give for a perfectly broken-in feel”. Theyāre slightly heavier denim so totally opaque and because of the lower spandex, they donāt stretch out as much as other jeans.
They’re fitted through the hip and thigh with a slightly tapered leg and raw hems. It isn’t a skinny or straight leg, but somewhere in the middle. Any and everything goes with denim this year so if you need a special shape, it’s out there. I am wearing a 27 regular but could also wear the petite which is here.
MORE WHITE JEANS
Vineyard Vines is a new brand to me, and I’m thrilled to find them. This Supima cotton/modal blend striped Tee is substantial and super soft. The website says it has “unique sizing”. I couldn’t see anything unusual about their size chart so IĀ ordered a small and eureka, it fits perfectly.
Itās machine wash, tumble dry which I want in a simple tee shirt. I’ll lay flat or hang to dry many things, but not a tee-shirt. I couldnāt resist this navy and white stripe, plus it comes in oatmeal Heather and white. It’s sized from XXS-XL. The medium would also work for me if I wanted a slouchier fit.
I love a lightweight cardigan for spring and summer. This one by Nic+Zoe is an airy semi-sheer linen blend with an open front which makes it versatile enough to wear over anything in your wardrobe. It’s available in 4 colors, sizes regular and petite, XS-XXL. I’m wearing a regular in small which fits me well. Their shorter version with 3/4 sleeves is one of my favorite summer sweaters which is available in 10 yummy colors…two of which just popped into my cart.
Pearls and sneakers? Why not? Pearls look classy to me whether they’re real or faux, expensive or budget-priced. These fun pearl hoops are from J. Crew last year, similar here, here, and here. I’ve been reaching for my pearl jewelry more than ever these days because they add a touch of elegance to anything I wear. My necklace is from a small boutique many years ago and the bracelet was a souvenir I bought on a trip to Bornholm, Denmark before the world turned upside down. I find scarves and little pieces of jewelry some of the best souvenirs because I’m reminded of the trip every time I wear them.
My platform sneakers are super comfy and have a soft metallic sheen which adds a touch more glamour to a casual look. Metallic shoes, sandals, and sneakers are a versatile option in place of other neutrals. Budget-friendly options here,Ā here, and here.
Are you a fan of white jeans?
Thanks for reading ladies and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

You were right. The shirt dress looked great with a belt
Hi Love your out fit today! BTW, you are looking thinner.than in past posts! You look amazing! What have you done differently to lose weight or inches?
Thanks. I did change the way I was eating and knocked out all snacking. I shared what I did here.
Yes, this is pure summer but just not on the coast. Itās hot here but I realize itās still chilly other places. But you donāt need the cardigan for this to be a great look. I have champagne colored, snakeskin sandals that I plan to wear out this summer. I look items that can serve as neutrals like leopard, chambray , camouflage, and metallic shoes. I think snakeskin falls under that neutral item too.
I agree, it absolutely falls into that category in my book.
Do like your choice in the T as feel the neckline is practical in depth plus IMHO its sleeve length offers the possibility of tweaking, giving the illusion of either a cap style (by rolling up) or that of a sleeveless tank (by under-cuffing). Also because of its length/cut; feel one could do the application of an elastic (working from the inside) and create a gathered ruche adding to an otherwise plain front.
As to your jeans, they do look amazing on you and you can purchase jewelry for me anytime … āŗ. Regarding your metallic sneakers, very chic! -Brenda-
P.S.: My youngest Grand Daughter (a tween) was recently lamenting she wished she had a pair of the latter. So using a plain pair she seldom wore, we did some experimentation giving them a light coat of a fleck metallic spray paint which made both her and her mother happy campers as resulted in a win-win situation of having a unique pair sneakers for her plus since our stores are still closed here, it eliminated having to shop on line for now.
What a clever idea! I bet she was delighted. You always have the most creative ideas, Brenda.
Jennifer, what a ideal summer outfit! Your posts have drawn me to some looks I’m delighted to embrace. That lightweight white cardigan is a “must buy” for me, so I clicked your link immediately. You can imagine my disappointment when I learned just now that Nordstrom has only two left in white but XS an L are not my size. If you find a similar item, perhaps you could feature it. Thank you for your spot-on suggestions, perfectly detailed info, convenient links, sunny outlook and kind heart.
Oh no! I found it here for you and it’s on sale! I’ll change the link in my post. Thank you for letting me know š xx
Jennifer, that’s so kind of you to find the item elsewhere…and even on sale! I just ordered it and will send you thoughts of gratitude each time I wear it (which will be often!).
Love this outfit with pearls and the metallic sneakers.
Love it all. ā¤ļø
My Arizona lifestyle means white jeans. I prefer a crisp look vs horizontal wrinkles. Haven’t succeeded in minimizing those wrinkles, so it may be my fabric blend with spandex. Perhaps I need to realize jeans are jeans…and accept the wrinkling as though I were wearing linen.
It does depend on the fabric content but to be honest, the cheaper fabrics are the ones with the least wrinkles but can be very hot to wear in searing heat.
So love this look; thank you Jennifer for all the “leg work” the pearl earrings are fab and Nic and Zoe cardigans are my favorite in the summer. Curious to hear what colors you bought! I bought a pink one last year and it is so pretty. Happy hump day!
Have you tried Talbotās White Chinos? They are terrific.
I have and they are!
Nothing is more classic; you’re right. I love this outfit and it’s so versatile. I have all these pieces you show, but other labels. Stripes say summer to me and of course white does too. I love to mix up red, white and navy all summer long.
Love this complete outfit. I wear white jeans and a white cardigan all summer! Really like the striped tee.
I need a new navy and white striped t-shirt, but the sleeves are pretty short on this one it looks like. My upper arms are too wrinkled now and I prefer a sleeve with a little longer cut now days. I like the look of the outfit tho.
Iāll keep an eye out for some for you.
You look great in this outfit. I’m very long waisted and find it so hard to find jeans with a high enough rise. How did the rise and waist fit on you? And did you find the jeans had enough stretch for comfort.
They have a very high rise so hit right at my waist, I have a long torso. They donāt stretch as much as my other jeans. Some jeans have so much stretch they feel like leggings. Not these. They feel like jeans.
I really like the entire outfit!
I just added 2 new striped T-shirtās to my summer wardrobe. Now, the white jeans are a bit more difficult to find. For me, itās all about the fabric and fit. I prefer a white jean that is not snug but skims the body. I love the high rise fit and a cotton rich fabric.
Your accessory selection is just perfect! Those little details complete your fresh, modern style.
For me, this ootd is another signature look that you style so very well!
Thank you Jan!!
I liked this look very much. I have a pair of Ann Taylor jeans which I’m happy with. I bought white jeans to celebrate being post-menopausal (and therefore, one less worry about wearing white jeans)! White jeans are very versatile, and I can wear them every season except summer (too hot for jeans here in central Texas in summer).
Great point about white jeans:) I still remember those days when white was off the table.
Your ootd is a staple for me including the white linen cardigan. I have a pair of white jeans from White House Black Market I like. They were the first pair of white jeans I found flattering. I love my metallic sneakers and wear them frequently. Iāve been on a quest for some fun pearl jewelry and like the earrings youāre wearing. Your outfit could be dressed up with a scarf or a pair of wedge sandals or espadrilles so itās really versatile.
what is ootd?
It means outfit of the day
I am afraid I would be very āshyā to wear that much white at once, I absolutely love the look of some white jeans, but sadly given my body type, (heavy on bottom) I havenāt been able to find jeans light coloured pants that isnāt too āsheerā or accentuates all the parts I want to minimize.
I find being able to see through white pants or the cardigan you are wearing to defeat my purpose.
You look good in light colours Jen. Thanks for your work.
