How to Make A Classic White Linen Blazer Look Modern
Classic style is timeless, with clean lines, in quality fabrics that always look polished. Theyāre versatile workhorses in our wardrobe because we can rely on them to look crisp and effortless. But do theyĀ look stuffy? Not in the least if you combine the pieces creatively. Today I’m styling my classic white linen blazer to look modern with a simple striped tee, some super comfy jeans, a wallet crossbody, and pearls. Yes, pearls again because I’m loving their vibe.
This white linen blazer is a Talbots favorite they bring back year after year because it’s so popular. The blazer is wrist length which makes it flattering on petite and tall women alike. I love how it dresses up over a summer dress, or down over jeans. It even looks great over some crisp Bermuda shorts. It comes in misses, petite, plus, and plus petite. J. Crew makes a beautiful one here in stretch linen.
The single button closure makes this an easy blazer to wear open or closed and to be honest, I seldom close mine.
MORE WHITE LINEN BLAZERS
My classic navy and white stripe tee seem so natural with this linen blazer. It almost feels nautical without the whole anchor motif. I’ve tucked mine in, but it would look equally good half tuck or untucked all the way. A navy tee would look great too and give you the column of color effect which is lengthening and helps you look taller.

Anything seems to go this year with denim, and Iām finding these stovepipe jeans to be my most comfortable. Their leg shape is somewhere between skinny and straight which feels very modern to me. I should have bought two pairs because I’m reaching for these all the time. This outfit would also be great with some chino’s if you’re not a denim gal.
I added a braided leather belt, similar here,Ā here (on sale), and here, that ties colorwise into my wallet crossbody and adds a bit of texture. This crossbody holds much more than I thought it would which I appreciate because I’m loving to have my hands-free these days.
Small watches may be more classic and expected on a woman, but I love the surprise of a larger watch with an up-to-date vibe. This one has clean lines and little excess detailing which keeps it looking casual and contemporary.
Pearls are featuring in my wardrobe more and more these days because they go with every color and add a touch of elegance. I’ve had this strand forever, similar here, here (50% off), and here. It’s as classic as you can get but it felt dated all by itself so I layered it with a contemporary green amethyst pendant and simple earrings.
I added modern platform wedges, a lower option here and here, and classic Ray-Ban sunglasses with mirrored lenses for a cool vibe that just won’t quit. I only wear polarized lenses these days because they cut down on squinting and help protect my aging eyes from sun damage.
Here’s how I make a classic white linen blazer look modern. On another day you could wear it with a ladylike dress, pumps, and pearl studs for a wedding shower or graduation. I’m glad I’ve held on to this blazer and pearls because their versatility makes them priceless in my wardrobe.

Thanks for reading ladies and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.
I wasnāt able to see your live group event today. Is there a link to see it after the fact?
I usually buy a collarless, button up the front, linen jacket so I can wear it over a tank in spring and as a top on its own as the weather gets warmer but I do like the look of a white blazer. The striped tee just adds the perfect touch. Pearls will never go out of style. They do take on a glow from your skin.
Thatās one of the things I love about pearls too
Saw your live this morning. I’m obviously out of it because I don’t have one pair of white jeans. Funnily enough jeans look wierd to me these days. I don’t know why. Maybe because they’re not pajamas. I’m liking pearls also. Maybe because they’ve been so out it’s time to be In.
I think youāre right about the pearls!
Nice outfit! Proof positive that if you have the right fit, clothes look great!
I adore pearls…wear mine often and love the glow they add.
You look great Jennifer.
You Classy Girl! That outfit is grand. Love the pearls. Great addition.
Love this classic casual look! Re your blazer, do like the welted pockets and its cut. Did purchase one from H&M (as live in Canada, like their return policy plus was reasonably priced for its quality/purpose), so do hope to get some wear out of it IF our weather ever warms up. Also admiring the CB Wallet and hope you don’t mind me sharing a tip in event you wish to change out the strap (to add some character or colour to an otherwise plain bag/wallet) ; a L – XL skinny belt will often work if threaded under the bag’s flap and through the clip-rings converting it to at least a shoulder-bag length. -Brenda-
P.S.: Unfortunately not on Instagram but otherwise would have tuned in, as sounds like fun and interesting for sure.
I prefer welt pockets in blazers because they lay smoother if my hands arenāt in them:)
I bought a white blazer to wear with a dress to a high school reunion. I was given a set of Pearl’s recently from a friend. I’m impressed by how these classic looks are back and look great.
Thanks for modeling an amazing look!
Thatās the beauty of classics.
You keep showing us how to take those basic, classic elements and create a modern style that can we can easily recreate!
Yes to denim and pearls! Yes to white wedge sandals and tawny leather accessories! And yes to white linen!
Each detail goes so well together. I am taking note and these blogs are so helpful. It seems that when I can see it, I can do it. Thankyou!
Iām so happy youāre enjoying! Happy Friday, Jan.
I love the look of the casual blazer with jeans. I have a light grey one that must remember to get out more often instead of a cardigan. I am not on instagram and on occasions like this almost wish I was, but it sounds like a fun get together to talk clothes. That is why I am so happy that you put so much effort and work into your blog for thsoe of us who just follow this.
I adore this outfit on you. I’m still kicking myself for donating all my blazers a few years ago, especially a white linen one. When I left the business world, I didn’t think I would wear blazers anywhere, but the last 2 years I’ve been replacing them and do love a blazer to dress up a casual look. Once the weather warms up a bit, I’ll replace my jackets with a blazer for my once a week grocery outing – yes, we are still in our 3rd lockdown.
