Coffee Date Outfit for Women over 50

Coffee Date Outfit for Women over 50

I’ve got long distance girlfriends I wish I could meet for coffee. We talk on the phone, email, and text but it’s never as fun as meeting at a local coffee shop for laughs, catching up and people watching. What many people wear to the coffee shop is fun to see.

Welcome to this week’s Hit Your Style Sweet Spot, my weekly collaboration with Pamela Lutrell from Over 50 Feeling 40!

Style Sweet Spot

Your Style Sweet Spot is when you know your appearance is sending the message you intend and feel confident you look your best. Last week Pam and I shared affordable fashion and this week we’re meeting a girlfriend for coffee.

I’m in black and white again. A simple, chic, breezy casual look.

I picked up this long sleeveless vest at White House Black Market last week. It was marked way down. It doesn’t offer warmth but is that magical 3rd piece that slims my look and helps my outfit feel pulled together.

I chose my white NYDJ jeans and sheer Cynthia Ashby layering top from Artful Home. I wear a simple black tank under it for coverage. I love that it’s 3/4 sleeves help me look taller and show off my bracelets!

I found these wedges last week when I was shopping with my daughter. Yes, we shop a lot when she comes to visit. She’s the only woman I shop with! We always have a blast.

I love their neutral color for a change from my usual black, and they’re comfy for days when I’m not standing or running around.

A fun purse to sit on the table, cute shoes and simple jewelry. Not dressed up, but attention to detail that makes me feel polished. Here’s how I hit my Style Sweet Spot when I meet a girlfriend for coffee.

Now let’s go over and see how Pam hits her Style Sweet Spot.

The Mr. and I have packed our little camper and are leaving for Canada tomorrow. I’m excited to see my daughter and visit my brothers.

Did I miss where you got the fabulous round purse? Love it!

No, you didn’t miss the handbag details, Kelli. I bought it 25 years ago. It’s from Kate Spade and a keeper 🙂

Great outfit, my friend. Naturally, the first thing I thought of while reading this was how much fun it would be to have coffee together. I think you and I fall into that category of phone chats and e-mails, and even a collaboration on a blog series I still get positive feedback on, but we’ve never had the pleasure of a real face-to-face tête à tête.

Wouldn’t that be lovely? Perhaps, some day. How about aiming that camper in the direction of the east coast???

    Cheers, my friend,

That is a great outfit Jennifer but only lacking that fab fedora you upstaged the Grand Canyon in.

Thanks, GSL! I’ve just got an amazing new fedora that’ll be showing up here soon!

I love the duster. It seems counterintuitive for we short girls to wear a long accent piece but it really works as you show!

It does seem counterintuitive but I love dusters 🙂

Love the outfit – but I’m not over 50 but over 70 … however, I’d wear this, it’s timeless and could be worn by a woman of any age. Love the wedge sandals, but I’m afraid I can no longer wear anything as high as that. I have to smile at magazines and blogs who recommend things for the “over 50s” as if that is old, har, har! Just wait until you’re over 70 and still want to look stylish but not like mutton dressed as lamb. I love the striped duster – I had my first duster in the late 1950s! It was was a loose swing coat in scarlet sailcloth, I just loved it, and I was only a teenager … but in the 1950s there weren’t ‘teenage’ fashions, one just stopped shopping in the children’s dept of a store and gravitated to the women’s dept! This is why young girls from, say, 15 or 16 onwards, in the 1950s tended to dress like their mothers!

Love your blog. You always look great!! You were talking about your hair the other day, but in this post it looks pretty thick. Have you found a new product?

    • Jennifer

Thanks Sue! Same products I wrote about before. The magic, I believe, is the Rogaine. I’m blessed that it’s working and I have 1″ hairs all over my head. Which adds tons of body.

Love this look, I’m always casual so a look like this is still polished but casual enough for running around. I think I need those shoes!!

They’re really great shoes, Rosemond. A perfect color for you too!

Do you feel the mesh top runs true to size or would you size up? You look great! Enjoy your trip to Canada.

I love your blog! I was wondering if you could include your daughter in your photos when you go shopping. I would like to see what she picks for her work outfits. It would be interesting to see both generations picking what works for them. I’m 60, so it’s not as if I want to wear what she’s wearing. I just think it would be interesting to see if she picks clothes that are similar to yours. Anyway, love your blog! Hope you keep it up!

Thanks for your kind words, Carolyn. I’ll ask my daughter. I did have some pictures of her from this last Dressing Room Diaries but didn’t think to include them.

The wedges and pocketbook are fabulous! Where did you find them? People watching at the coffee shop is great fun. You look lovely and pulled together per usual!

The wedges are from Nordstrom, Creal, and there’s a link to them at the bottom of the post. I bought the handbag 25 years ago, so it’s not available.
