Comfortable Gold and Silver Dress Shoes for Older Women

As we age into our 50s, 60s, and 70s, finding comfortable shoes becomes harder and harder. This is not made easier by the various feet conditions many of us suffer from like bunions, fallen arches, corns or calluses, hammertoes, and/or plantar fasciitis. Then, add on the problem of trying to find stylish AND comfortable shoes to wear to special events like being a wedding guest, to a bridal shower, etc. It becomes nearly impossible!

But, I know that I’m not the only that struggles with this. Luckily through hours spent reading countless reviews, combing through the internet, I have finally found the most comfortable gold and silver dress shoes for older women. I made sure to pull a variety of options that fit all budgets and style preferences, even for those of you that need orthotic friendly ones. Whether you’re looking for a low heel, comfy flat, or dressy sandal, this guide offers a full list to make shopping for gold and silver evening shoes easier than ever.

1. Best Low Heel in Gold: Clark’s Caroleigh Anya

Clark’s shoes are ones that many older women wear, and this pair will go with just about anything you put on. The 2 inch block heel will provide stable support through the day and night.

2. Best Low Heel in Silver: J. Renee Faleece

If you’re looking for something that has a little more sparkle and pizazz, try this shoe from J. Renee. It has beading and glitter on it and is available in multiple widths from narrow to double wide.

3. Best Pump: LifeStride Women’s Parigi Pump

With almost 10k, 4.5 star reviews on Amazon, the Parigi Pump is one not to be missed. LifeStride is known for making comfortable shoes. Available in every color that you could imagine, this pump with a 2 1/4 inch heel features their SoftSystem comfort elements to make it comfortable to dance the night away in.

4. Best Shoe You Can Wear Again: Rothy’s Diamond Metallic

I have a pair of Rothy’s and can’t say enough about them. They go from size 5 to 13 and the Point style I’m featuring has almost 25k+ reviews. I love that the shoes are sustainable and knit from plastic bottles. Plus, Rothy’s are machine washable!

5. Best Ballet Flat: BeautiFeel Women’s Ballet Flat

Many of you have recommended this brand to me, and I’m happy to find this pair to include. This elegant shoe is very well made and available in sizes 5-11.

6. Best Sandal: LifeStride Womens Yaya

Another LifeStride shoe made the list, and while these do have a wedge, I’m counting them as a sandal! This is the most popular pair I see older ladies wearing these days to special events!

7. Best Wedge: Easy Spirit Women’s Hazel Wedge Sandal

With just enough sparkle, these 1 inch wedge sandals have a sling back, are adjustable, and come in every possible color to match your outfit including gold, silver, beige, black, pink, and navy.

8. Best Budget-Friendly Shoe: DREAM PAIRS Women’s Ingrid Ankle Strap Low Wedge Sandal

I was wowed by these when I read the reviews and plan on ordering a pair to try. Under $50, these shoes will also arrive quickly in time if you are in a pinch.

9. Best Splurge Shoes: Sarah Flint Perfect Block Sandal

Be warned…these are expensive. BUT, I wanted to include them as they have a huge celebrity following behind the brand including Meghan Markle, Amal Clooney, Cindy Crawford, and more. These shoes are designed with arch support, a redesigned toe box, and 6 mm of extra padding that molds to the wearer’s foot.

10. Best New Brand to Try: Birdies

This is a new brand that you may not be familiar with! These pointed toe slides are decked out and have a no-slip rubber sole for indoor and outdoor wear. It won’t even feel like you have normal shoes on thanks to the 7 layers of quilted comfort in every footbed.

What are some of your favorite brands for comfortable dress shoes when you’re attending a wedding or special event? Let me know in the comments so I can include in the post!

  1. Great post! It is nice to have some special occasion shoes in your wardrobe. I have a small collection that serves me well. I just returned from a cruise where I brought my Sarah Jessica Parker sandals — low-heeled black leather with a silver sparkly strap. They are super comfortable and I can walk in them. I have the Sarah Flint sandals in nude, and they are pricey but well worth it as they are comfortable and supportive. I also have the Birdie slides, but do not like these at all as my foot slides around the silky footbed too much and the slide has no support whatever. Vivaia is a great alternative to Rothys and less expensive. I highly recommend the Aria5 flats. I find the Vivaia shoes are very good for bunions and wider feet as they are stretchy (buy your normal size). Be sure to check out their cut add-on bows.

  2. Jennifer, you put so much research into this post. Thank you!
But if one has bunions, every pair has a strap going across itā€¦ouch!
Itā€™s so difficult to find a dressy pair to accommodate this condition.

    1. I agree. Bunions are really challenging.

Thank you for such a wide selection of beautiful shoes. I suffer from feet that swell so anything with a strap across the ankle are not on my list. The J Renee shoes are really pretty.

  4. What wonderful choices. Thanks for doing all the work for us. They all look way more modern then I thought we could find out there.

Oh what a very helpful post! Although I don’t have any dressy events planned in the near future, I really appreciate all the choices here. I have a very wide foot and bunions, so it is always a challenge to find shoes that are both comfortable and stylish. I’m glad to see shoe manufacturers creating lots more options for women like me! I usually spend $$$ but to me there is nothing worse than uncomfortable shoes.

    1. There are several brands now designed specifically for women with bunions and a wider forefoot, Google ā€˜shoes for bunionsā€™ and you will find them. A couple are in the UK, but some offer included free returns.

  6. Thank you so much for this post! I have wide feet and have a terrible time finding shoes that I like. I will definitely try some of these!

  7. Thanks so very much for the shoe selections. I have a wide foot, and there were several that come in wide. I have two weddings coming up next year. I have to wear comfortable shoes to these events.

  8. I’m going to weigh in about fit. I’ve tried most of these brands and they all fit differently, at least at the low end of the size range. A lot has to do with where they are manufactured, I’ve found. Shoes made in Asia bit larger and wider overall, whereas shoes made in Europe and Brazil fit truer to the Brannock device measurement in a shoe store. I wear a 5.5/35.5M (this leaves me out of many shoe lines, even Vionic which prides itself on fit, similar to many who wear a 10.5). Of these shoes, I do best in Beautifeel and Rothy’s, which offer true 5.5/35.5. In Clarks, I size down to 5–and they fit wide (they didn’t use to but they do now). Birdies are big, too, and deep. I can almost make them fit using insoles (won’t work for these mules) but they’re also wide in the heel. JRenee varies by style–again, I think this depends on where they are produced, so I’ll often look for where a shoe is made, but “imported” isn’t too helpful. I’ll order often order both the 5 and 5.5 (if there is one)–Zappos makes this easy, as does Nordstroms. By the way, that’s a great price on the Beautifeels, as they are usually quite expensive.

    1. Glad to know someone in this big beautiful world has similar problems finding comfortable, supportive shoes that fit!

  9. Thanks for the post as it is so helpful! I searched the Internet last year for a pair of comfortable shoes to wear with my mother-of-the-groom dress. The wedding was outdoors and I had to go down a wet and rocky forested path. I wore the YaYa Sandal and they were so comfortable. They were perfect for the reception and dancing after the ceremony.

Thanks so much for the selection of gold & silver shoes. As usual, you are right on time with our questions about our hunts for the season. I have worn J Renee for years. They always have special events shoes in beautiful styles.

  11. Jennifer, I often benefit from your advice, but never more so than today! I thought about writing to ask for your advice on dress shoes-and yet you were on it!
Shopping for dress shoes is right up there with shopping for bathing suits for me. My flat, wide, bunion loving feet dreaded shopping for a black tie event this season. You came to the rescue! I purchased the black Life Stride pumps with a few shoe clips to see if they could be dressed up a bit.
I have good luck with Sole Bliss, but they are out of my size in most of the dress shoes. Noticed that inventory is low again this year, so if you need shoes for a holiday event, donā€™t wait.
    Thanks again.

    1. Everything seems to be selling out very fast this season. When I have a dressy event I usually start by thinking of my feet first! Painful feet are horrible.

  12. What a great roundup. I’d like a pair of each, please!

  13. I love Rothyā€™s shoes. I have way too many to count. They do not have arch support and the sizing is crazy. But I find them very comfortable. The washable factor along with the many colors, styles and patterns is what keeps me buying them!

    1. Iā€™m curious to try the Rothyā€™s driving Mocs. Iā€™ve read great reviews about them.

  14. You are so right! Finding a pair of dressy shoes is harder than finding an outfit for a special event, for me. Especially when you have bunions, arthritis, and need arch support. Love those Renee’s and I’m very curious how the Rothy’s fit. I really need a flat or very small heel when buying shoes. I have had some luck with Beautifeel but they have been casual. Thanks for all the suggestions. Just may have to try those Rothy’s!

    1. My Beautifeels are incredibly comfy!

  15. Of course I like the Sarah Flint pair best. Good thing I donā€™t have any dressy events on the horizon! Thanks for the round up!

    1. Iā€™m so curious about those.

    Hello Jennifer,
Such beautiful shoes….what a treat to see! I love the Birdies especially! I wore a silver pair of Franco Sarto Belle shoes for my son’s wedding in September with a beautiful rich peacock dress to make a statement, and now I am really enjoying wearing metallic. Go girl, something new!
    Happy week šŸ™‚

    1. Metallics are so fun to wear. Your outfit sounds gorgeous
