Dressing Room Diaries – Loft

Last Saturday’s would you wear it had some pretty strong opinions about the mannequins. One reader called them frumpy which made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. She is totally entitled to her opinion but I don’t want anyone’s feelings hurt here and that particular word has very negative connotations so I deleted it.

While I was snapping that mannequin, I did a DRD, and here’s what I tried on.

If youā€™re new here, welcome. A dressing room diary is when I go into a store and try on new merchandise so you can see how it looks on a woman over 25. For reference, I am 5ā€™4ā€³ and weigh around 138 lbs with broad shoulders and straight hips. I have a long torso and arms so I often buy one size larger on top. I try on clothes in colors and shapes that may or may flatter me so you can see what’s in the stores and get some styling ideas.

WEARING –Ā  STRIPED HARBOR TEEĀ  – MID-RISEĀ SKINNY JEANSĀ  –Ā  SHEEC SOCKS. –Ā  EYEGLASS FRAMES

This tee comes in 3 colors, with a boat neck and 3/4 sleeves. The fabric is 100% slub-textured cotton available in regular and petite. I’m wearing a small in regular. These mid-rise skinny jeans are available in regular, petite, and tall, 24-34. I’m wearing a 29 which is one size too large on me so they don’t look as slim through the leg as they should.

WEARING –Ā  STRIPED BOYFRIEND SHIRTĀ  –Ā  RELAXED V-NECK CARDIGANĀ  –Ā  MID-RISE SKINNY JEANS

I’m wearing a small in regular in this striped shirt, but ended up buying the medium because it’s 100% cotton and I assume it will shrink. It’s selling out fast in most of the colors. It comes in regular and petite, XXS-XXL.

The chunky cardigan comes in 4 colors, XS-XXL. I’m wearing an XS which is a bit small on me so it runs TTS. It’s a machine washable cotton blend that should probably be a bit slouchier so I would go up a size for that look.

WEARING –Ā  MIXED STITCH SWEATERĀ  –Ā  JEANS are not on the website

The mixed stitch sweater is in electric yellow, in case you didn’t notice šŸ™‚ It has a lot of green in the color which makes it more neutral than warm. It also comes in 3 other colors, regular and petite, XS-XXL. I’m wearing a small in regular. It’s a midweight cotton blend and very soft.

These jeans were obviously in the store, but I can’t locate them on the website for you. I hate when that happens.

WEARING – STRIPED HARBOR TEEĀ  Ā –Ā  HIGH WAIST SCULPTING JEGGING

Same striped tee as above, this time in kelly green. The high-waist sculpting jegging is surprisingly comfortable because it has 4% Lycra. It comes in a straight or curvy version in regular, petite, and tall, sizes 24-32. I’m wearing a regular in 28 which is the length I prefer.

WEARING –Ā  EVERYDAY WHITE SHIRTĀ  –Ā  BLUE PULLOVERĀ  –Ā  SKINNY PANTS IN TEXTURE

I adore this blue sweater but can’t find it anywhere on the website, so let me know if you find it.
Yay, a reader found this blue sweater here! Thank you. Itā€™s such a pretty shade.
I’m wearing it over the everyday white shirt in a large petite. It also comes in regular length sizes XXS-XXL. The skinny pants are nice grey tweed-type fabric with plenty of stretch but the fiber count is not listed. They come in regular or curvy, in petite, regular, or tall lengths. I’m wearing a regular length in size 8.

WEARING –Ā  MIXED MEDIA BLOUSEĀ  –Ā  STRETCH TWILL SKINNY PANTS

This blouse is woven in the front and knit in the back so it’s as comfy as a tee shirt. I’m not a pattern lover nor am I fond of ruffles, but I almost bought this because it’s very pretty. It’s sized XS-XL, I am wearing a small. The stretch twill skinny pants come in 5 colors, in regular and petite. I am wearing a 6 petite. This will be a great length pant when the weather warms up.

WEARING –Ā  COTTON STRIPED BOYFRIEND SHIRT –Ā  STRETCH TWILL PANTS

Same stretch twill pants as above, this time in brushed rose which appears a warm shade to me. This pair is a 6 regular so you can see the difference in the length.

WEARING –Ā  BOYFRIEND SHIRT –Ā  HIGH WAIST SCULPT JEGGINGS
WEARING –Ā  RELAXED V-NECK CARDIGANĀ  –Ā  EVERYDAY CREWNECK TEEĀ  Ā –Ā  MID-RISE SKINNY JEANS

Here’s the same cardigan you saw above, this time in Pink Burst. I adore pink with black, the brighter the pink, the more pop it has. I’m wearing an XS here too. I’m wearing it over a column of black which includes a simple cotton tee and skinny jeans.

MORE FROM LOFT

As you see, dressing room diaries are not without their challenges. I often come home with lots of pictures and can’t locate the item to share with you. My Sheec socks are super comfy. I have several different styles and recommend them highly.

Thanks for reading and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

Hi Jennifer! Love the pink & black combo. The pink you are wearing looks like a darker bright pink than what shows on line at Loft. Can you say if it is darker than lighter? Being a blond and coloring fading with age the darker pink would be my go to.

    Love your Blog!!
    Joanne

    1. I donā€™t remember it feeling like a dark pink.

  2. Love that mint striped shirt on you! Gorgeous color!

  3. The buttons: are they truly animal print or are they just tortoise shell? I am not an animal print person, never have been. In my youth (shortly after the dinosaurs died) animal print carried a certain connotation, flashy stuff worn by certain women “earning a living.” I never could get beyond that. There are some “rules of dressing” our mothers insert in our heads that are just about impossible to dislodge. Of course, I don’t begrudge anyone their love of the prints, but I’m too old to change, I think.

    1. Many of us do have those ā€œrulesā€ in our memory, Kay. Youā€™re not alone.

  4. I know exactly how you feel about being drawn to the beautiful colors in the print blouse. I hate when that happens to me. I love the color but not particularly the style. I get it home and just canā€™t seem to make it work. Iā€™m usually sorry I bought it and wish I could just turn the blouse into a scarf so I could enjoy wearing the lovely print.

You look amazing in that striped harbor tee!! It fits you perfectly!

Regarding comments … several weeks ago I was on another blog and commented on an outfit that I liked and one that I wear. Another reader commented that such an outfit looked “ridiculous” and the blogger agreed. I was terribly offended and will no longer follow that blog. You may not like something but there is no reason to be rude! Thank you, Jennifer, for making this a kind place!!

    1. Iā€™m so sorry, Beth.
We all occasionally say things that could be misunderstood. But rudeness is not necessary.

  6. Deborah Evers says:

Do the Sheec socks stay up well on your heels?

    1. They do. I really like them.

  7. Most of the colors seemed really vibrant on my screen and I tend to get washed out by those jewel tones, but I loved the striped tee and ordered it in the navy. I think it will be a welcome addition to my navy and white themed outfits. I was tempted to get that floral blouse. I have a lot of the mixed media tops from Loft, but itā€™s supposed to be 80Ā° this week! Yikes!

(Still commuting from Bay Area to SCLH – renovating going soooo slow. Who knew it would take three months to tile a shower!) I guess we better check the air conditioner next trip up there.

  8. Iā€™ve had my eye on the harbor tee in pink. What did you think?
On another note re: Sweaters and tops – Iā€™ve noticed many have dropped shoulders or raglan sleeves. Iā€™m not a fan of either style. Have you noticed these sleeve styles as well?

    1. Those dropped shoulders have been very popular lately. Theyā€™re a less expensive way to construct a top. Not the most flattering on me.
      Now raglan sleeves, I love

  9. The mixed media shirt is something I like. I have purchased them in the past from the Loft.

  10. Saturday’s mannequins resulted in contentious comments?! The outfits looked very “normal” to me, like most of us dress daily. That said, it’s a pet peeve of mine when women are too fawning and agreeable. I appreciate someone with a different opinion, stated plainly, and would have a laugh over our differences, no offense taken. My two cents.

    1. I agree, a difference of opinion make conversations interesting. That one word is hurtful for some women so I deleted it. I hope to have constructive conversations not ones that label clothes

  11. All the outfits look great on you! I recently indulged, looking forward to spring, by ordering that striped sweater from Talbots that you featured last week. I have realized that I am lacking cardigans that could go over a cute shirt. That pink one is calling my name. Thank you for the inspiration!

  12. The blue sweater is on the website as ā€œV neck sweater,ā€ and the color youā€™re wearing is called true cornflower. Itā€™s my kind of sweater so I was determined to find it!šŸ˜‚

    1. Thanks Debbie. I love cornflower too!

  13. I want everything in yellow and that pink cardigan. I just loving the yellow. Itā€™s just looks so warm. The greens are pretty too but if I wander too far astray from my wardrobe colors I get in trouble. I try to keep to just three signature colors. Yellow, pink and blue. Now that I say that out loud it sounds like a nursery.LOL but mine are mid range not pastel.

    1. Lol, I love it. Pastels look good on me but I have to be very careful with them.

  14. Not one outfit I did not love.
That blue sweater is a must for you. Looks wonderful on you.
Have to say all the outfits looked real good.

    1. Itā€™s one of my favorite shades of blue. I love it.

  15. LOVE that yellow T neck on you. So sunny and bright. Have a wonderful day.

  16. Carol Eberhardt says:

I didnā€™t comment before on the mannequin, the pink striped shirt and the pink cardigan, but I love both, Iā€™d buy both and Iā€™m not a pink girl.. but with black, sharpā€™

    1. Carol Eberhardt says:

      But Iā€™d change the buttons!

    2. I love the combo too

  17. Absolutely love everything you tried on! Can’t think of anything I would change. Really liked the pink and black look on you.

  18. Love love everything you modeled in this post! The colors all were wonderful on you. Not so sure about the yellow/greenish sweater though, pretty sweater but maybe in another color.
You always showcase such pretty outfits and I personally thank you for inspiration. Have a great rest of your week Jennifer

  19. Thanks, I’ve been looking at jeans at AT. Maybe you can explain “mid-rise” to me? Loved the black mid-rise skinny jeans but the rise for Petites was more than 10 inches and just 1/2 inch shorter than Regular, which makes no sense. The jeans sit at natural waist: to me this is not mid-rise. In my search from there, I found another “mid-rise” that was considerably shorter, which I probably will purchase. Love the striped shirts on you!

    1. There is no rhyme or reason to what they label mid-ride which is why I always check measurements.

  20. Nice array of styles and colors in this post. All the striped pieces look so nice on you. Everything looks nice!

  21. Great looks, thanks for sharing. It’s amazing how the horizontal stripes emphasize your shoulders and how the vertical stripes minimize them. It’s a good lesson in how patterns and cuts can influence your silhouette.

  22. Beverly Jo Anderson says:

I love the green striped shirt and those jeans|jeggings look on you!!

  23. That striped boyfriend shirt speaks to me! I have been looking for a beach coverup, and I am thinking that this might just do the trick. Thank you!

  24. Particularly like the v-neck pullover due to its horizontal ribbing and colour as well as the boyfriend long sleeved shirts. The latter which I am leaning towards this year for my Spring and Summer wardrobe as can also be worn as an overlay over a tank/camisole (in lieu of sunscreen and/or for a cool environment) as last year we only had about two weeks of Spring then went right into Summer. With that said; due to the climate I live in I try to purchase clothing that performs as seasonal double duty , otherwise I’d run out of closet space …. ā˜ŗ. -Brenda-

  25. I love the relaxed cardigan! I had one that was very similar and it was so comfy to wear, until I saw a photo of myself in the sweater. I couldnā€™t have done more to make myself look shorter and wider. Thatā€™s my personal experience. Itā€™s like catching a random glimpse of myself in a store mirror. I guess photos and mirrors donā€™t lie but it can be disheartening. Lol
Now, you look so ready for spring in all these gorgeous colors. I am on a search for new slim jeans and possibly a new fun clutch. I stopped carrying a handbag when COVID hit and really love an easy to carry clutch.

  26. Gail Schwartz says:

I went right to the website and ordered the striped shirt in all three colors. It will brighten up my spring wardrobe. Thanks for showing it! BTW, you look so good in the light blue sweater

    1. Thank you so much, Yvonne!

  27. I hope you find that blue pullover sweaterā€¦. Looks great on you.

      1. Yay! Thank you

  28. The pink cardigan with the column of black popsā€¦but I stand by what I said on Saturday the buttons are off. Originally I was thinking change the buttons to black to make it work, but I seeing it ā€˜IRLā€™ I think Iā€™d find buttons in that shade of pink. For me that would take the outfit to a whole new level

    1. Carol Eberhardt says:

I agree with you re: the buttons. Why animal print? It doesnā€™t make sense to me, with that shade of pink plus the knit pattern. I get turned off an article of clothing when the focus moves from an otherwise really pretty piece to the animal element. I wish the trend would die off, but I guess itā€™s been around so long itā€™s called ā€œclassicā€ by now. I call it overdone. IMO.

      1. Animal print is often overdone but done ladies canā€™t get enough of it. Variety šŸ™‚

      2. I agree. I like cardigans but the current style with big buttons is not for me. I think the buttons compete with jewelery and everything else. I like small pearl buttons or buttons the same color as the sweater so they blend in.
As for animal print, I like it in very small doses — small crossbody or basic flats that’s it.

      3. Great point about the buttons

  29. Paulette Levy says:

Wow- I love nearly every sweater/ tunic and shirt you tried on. The bright green might not be for me, but you look super!
The cardigan look is very nice!
