Dressing Room Diaries – Casual Blouses

Happy Tuesday, ladies. I hope you had a nice weekend. I took the time off from all social media to decompress but I did hit the mall which was a zoo yesterday. To be honest, I’d forgotten it was a holiday, or I would have avoided it.

If you’re new here, welcome.  A dressing room diary is when I go into a store and try on new merchandise so you can see how it looks on a woman over 25. For reference, I’m 5’4″ weigh 136 lbs. I have an inverted triangle silhouette with broad shoulders, straight hips, and very few curves. I have a long torso and arms so usually wearing one size larger on top than the bottom.

The outfit below is from last week, which I forgot to share…hence the different shoes and earrings.

This lightweight top comes in 5 different colors and patterns, in petite and regular sizes 00 – 14W. I’m wearing a medium but it runs large so I suggest you size down. The shirttail hemline is a nice length, but I always like to tie them up in front to make my legs look longer. The side slits allow you to tuck or tie the front and leave the back out to cover your backside. These are the Catherine Boyfriend jeans by Kut From The Kloth. They’re a slimmer fit than many boyfriend jeans..in fact, they just seem like straight jeans to me with plenty of stretch. They come in sizes 00 – 14W. These have a 9 1/2″ rise, which they’re calling mid rise.

The print on this blouse looks like artistic brushstrokes. The colors remind me of a Monet painting. The drawstring at the neckline is adjustable so you can snug and tie or leave open as I have. It has 3/4 length sleeves with elastic at the bottom so you can slide them up or down your forearm. It’s available in regular and petite, XS -16 W. It runs true to size.

These are Nic+Zoe’s best-selling polished pull-on pants. They’re super comfy and flattering. They are a rayon blend with 4% spandex so they’ll maintain their shape no matter how long you sit in them. I love the high rise and fit of these pants. They come in petite and regular 0-14W. I’m wearing the 4 petite but would choose the 6 because they’re white, which shows everything so they run true to size.

This hammered satin blouse has a keyhole neckline with gently gathered sleeves. It comes in 5 colors, XS-XL. This is Cool Melon in XS which is too snug so it runs TTS. The long sleeves have elastic cuffs you could slide up or down.

These jeans have a very slight flare, high rise, and lots of stretch.  They’re designed with Wit and Wisdom’s famous Ab-solution styling to help slim, shape, and lift in all the right places. They’re available in sizes 00-16 with a nice high rise and run true to size

This draped top comes in five colors sizes XXS-XXL and runs large. I think you would need to tack the front closed or wear a cami underneath to prevent gaping. These stretch cotton pants come in four colors sizes 00-18. They have a 26 1/2″ inseam which would be slightly cropped on anyone taller than me. I’m wearing a 6 and they’re very comfy.

This is the classic style Vince Camuto rumpled satin blouse. It comes in 11 gorgeous colors sizes XXS to 16 W. It runs large. I’m wearing the color Passion Fruit but I came home and ordered the cool melon. They’re all so pretty, it’s hard to choose! I also own it in ivory because it’s a great little blouse to have on hand and travels like a dream.

This shift dress is made from a mix of Refibra™ lyocell and Tencel® lyocell as well as organic cotton. Honestly, it just feels like cool cotton knit, It comes in three colors sizes XXS-16W. It’s oversized by design so order down for a more fitted look. I’m wearing a small and could have gone down a size. This little cardigan has a boxy shape which gives you upper arm coverage without real sleeves. It’s made from nice drapey organic cotton in sizes XXS-XL. I am wearing an XXS so it runs large.

Thanks for reading ladies and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

The rumpled satin top and the green sweater are great. I have almost the same skin tone (cool fair to medium) as you seem to have on my laptop. The too pale colors wash me out and the green cardigan is a great example of the green that looks good near the face. I need rich colors to avoid the pale face look. Make-up I use has to be alittle more than usual to pull off pastels and black tones neat my face. You pointed that out in a previous post when you showed your black and white looks which I love.
I have renewed faith in the color consulter business. You look lovely in rich colors

I am wondering what size you are wearing in the Vince rumpled satin sleeveless blouse. Ivory sounds like a great basic!

Absolutely love the hammered satin blouse on you. The color was perfect for your skin tone!

I like the hammered silk and the sage pants. I’ve just this summer discovered I love sage. I’m wearing it today with a silky shirt in a salmon color. I have a geranium color I want to try it with. I only wore it with white before. We do get stuck in a rut on what we wear with what.

I wish Nordstrom was in Canada and for what it is worth, I also like the warmer pinks on you. Re your alterations, can relate as unintentionally lost some weight during the winter months so had to adjust some bottoms that were too large in the waistline. (Fortunately some waistbands have seam lines so was able to open them up and thread ‘n secure compatible elastic width, just through the back which works like a charm.) With much appreciation of your DRD as realize it has to be time consuming. -Brenda-

All the blouses are styles I sewed in my younger years.
It feels like a step back in time for me seeing these.
Makes me want to dust off my sewing machine, bring out my fabric stash, and get creative again. But as with all styles that I wore decades ago, they may not be flattering to me now so I will look for the styles in stores and try them before investing time and effort into sewing. Also I’m not sure I have the necessary stamina needed to sew!
Maybe purchasing ready made would be most doable now. Time alters many things.
Thanks for modeling these today. Got me inspired.

Lol, I just brought my machine out of mothballs today to do some alterations and thought fondly of the things I used to create with it.

Love those Vince Camuto tops! They had a beautiful blue one online that would look great on you. I don’t remember ever seeing you in that rich camel color, but I thought it was a beautiful color for you. Oh, I wish we had a Nordstrom’s in our state – maybe someday. Thanks for all your work!

I much prefer these warmer pinks and camel on you. You look healthy and vibrant. To me, the pale pink cardigan you wore in a previous post washed you out, at least on my computer screen.
These try ons are so informative. Thanks for doing this!

Never underestimate the power of a good print. It’s “Monet” for the win today.

The neckline on the peasant top is not my favorite but oh, those colors look so pretty on you. I can see how the sleeveless Vince top would be a great summer top too.
On a completely different subject, I found an inexpensive product that works beautifully on my shoulder length, fine hair. It adds lift and texture without being stiff or sticky. My hair holds without that “sprayed” look. It’s Garnier Fructis De-constructed Texture Tease.

The beautiful Nic and Zoe top is just way out of my price range. Wish it was more affordable,

Good morning, Jennifer! I love the style of the Vince Camuto and NYDJ tops and can see how they would travel very well, but being made of polyester, I’m concerned about breathability and sweating in hot weather. Have you experienced that problem in them?

The ones with sleeves have more of an issue. I usually wear mine on milder days.

Good selection! Question. Is your trigger finger issue from knitting? I also knit a lot, but can’t put out a sweater in four days like some knitters, so I think my fingers are safe, but I am always wondering.

I don’t know. I was an obsessive knitter and often did put out a sweater on a week. I really miss knitting.

I machine knit for many years and was known to knit a sweater in one day! It hurts my back to do it now, but I just got a motor for the machine, which I will clean up and see if I can get it to run. I miss my knitting terribly, too. I find the question often is not CAN I make it, but SHOULD I make it!

Thanks for the great ideas, Jennifer! I’m headed to Nordstrom later this week and you’ve inspired me.
I love the draped top – the fabric seems soft and fluid. I also love the “paintbrush” peasant blouse. Great when paired with white!
