Dressing Room Diaries – Fall Textures at Loft

It feels like a very long time since I’ve seen what Loft has to offer, so I popped in for a try-on session last week. Most Loft garments come in regular and petite, and some pants are offered in straight or curvy fit. I’m getting this out to you quickly because today is the last day to save up to 40% off full-priced merchandise with the code WANT at checkout.

If youā€™re new here, welcome. A dressing room diary is when I go into a local store for a try-on session so you can see whatā€™s new and how it looks on a woman over 25. For reference, I am 5ā€™4ā€³ and weigh around 134 lbs. I have broad shoulders with straight hips, a long torso, and long arms. I often buy one size larger on top. Youā€™ll see me try on clothes in colors and shapes that may or may not flatter me because I want you to see whatā€™s in the stores and get some styling ideas. I tell you what sizes I am wearing to help you understand how things run.

I know plaid will be everywhere soon because it’s a fall/winter favorite, and flannel makes it even cozier. Loft had several pieces on the floor, so I started with this plaid everyday shirt. It’s 100% cotton twill with a relaxed fit. The line of magenta in the windowpane is a nice change from neutrals. I chose the small in regular so the arms would be long enough to wear buttoned (I have long arms); otherwise, it runs true to size (TTS).

This Magenta colored smooth knit cowl is a blend with spandex that comes in seven colors. My matchy-matchy eye couldn’t resist coordinating it with the plaid shirt. Its tunic length would be great over leggings or narrow pants as well as these girlfriend jeans. I’m loving the easy feel and extra leg-width of girlfriend jeans this fall. Some boyfriend shapes are too slouchy for my taste, so a girlfriend style is usually a great option. They have a finished hem, so you could unroll them to adjust the length. These are aĀ  nice dark wash with no distressing.

The color of this ribbed sweater called my name from across the store. It has a soft, pretty vibe with slightly puffed sleeves that lay flat on the shoulder and graceful fullness. This style strikes a nice balance between feminine and classic with its slim fit, flat rib knit, and scoop neckline. It comes in 4 colors, including neutrals.

These corduroy pants have a thinner weight and added spandex, so they’re not stiff and uncomfortable. They are described as skinny, but I find the leg to be closer to straight and also come in tall and curvy fit for ladies with wider hips. They’re available in nine colors, both warm and cool. I’m wearing deep space blue (navy) with the bottom folded under 1″.

This sweater has the white cotton shirt sleeves already attached. The cableknit “vest” portion is super soft in deep space blue and mock neck. The sleeves have a tiny ruffle at the cuff. Based on the sleeve length, I would probably get petite so that I could leave the ruffle showing.

Now, these jeans really are skinny! In fact, they feel like leggings on me. They might have been a bit more forgiving in one size up. When I switch from regular to petite at Loft I always go up one size…but I didn’t see these on the floor in 29 regulars. You could certainly tuck these into knee boots šŸ™‚ I’m wearing them with this polka dot corduroy shirt in deep space blue (navy). It’s a very soft twill that’s both preppy and classic at the same time. I found this small, snug across the chest, so I suggest you size it up.

VELVET POLKA DOT SHIRT regular small / JEANS petite 29 / CABLED TURTLENECK KNIT PONCHO XS/S

This polka-dot shirt is called velvet dot, and the base fabric is soft flannel. For a cozy shirt like this, I prefer mine on the loose side, so personally, I would size up, but I do think it runs TTS. This Cableknit Poncho is comfy and fun. I love the ease of ponchos when it’s not cold enough for a coat. This one comes in emerald or this charcoal XS/S, M/L, or XL/XXL. Because it has no armholes I would be careful of sizing up too much.

HOUNDSTOOTH MODERN BLAZER regular 6 / GIRLFRIEND JEANS petite 28 / FRENCH BULLDOG TEE medium

These are the girlfriend jeans from above, unfolded. The Houndstooth blazer is a great modern classic. The silhouette is long with single button closure.Ā  The center back is 28″ in this regular and 26 1/2 in petite. I obviously love it over jeans, but it would also be great over a longer skirt with boots or dress slacks for work. I added this fun bulldog tee that has tiny touches of pink. I’m not usually attracted to graphic tees this artwork reminds me of the drawings in Kate Spade’s books which I couldn’t resist. It runs small, so I suggest you size up at least one size.

These faux suede leggings come in four colors, I’m wearing army fatigue. They have pull-on styling and a front seam that is slimming. They run a bit large, which prevents them from looking spray painted on your legs šŸ™‚ They also come in petite and tall with inseams of regular, 27 1/2″, petite 25 1/2″, and tall 31 1/2″. The tee is the same ‘army fatigue’ color which creates a column of color under this plaid blazer. Because this is a boyfriend style and 29″ long, the extra length makes it easier to wear over leggings and narrow pants.

Applause for this series from a new subscriber! I found you through Pam Luttrell’s blog and appreciate that you both do the tedious work of trying things on so we have enough info to order knowledgeably. Just wondering what part of the country you’re in? I’m in Texas, like Pam and it’s nice to find bloggers whose choices work in our two season climate. (Hot and Not-So-Hot!)

    1. Welcome! I am in northern California, which only gets two seasons as well. Hot and average to cool.

I love graphic tees! We just adopted the sweetest little French Bulldog from a shelter yesterday so, I have to have that tee!

  3. I had to buy the graphic tee. I love the frenchies. Thanks for doing the DRD.

    1. I was so tempted šŸ™‚

  4. Outfits looked great. I use to be a big Loft fan, not much anymore. There clothing didnā€™t seem to hold up or last. Sweaters pilled terrible, t-shirts also pilled no matter what I did. Iā€™ve found other brands of leggings that fit better. Iā€™m 5ā€™2ā€ about 115. Enjoy your posts.

  5. Like those faux suede pants/leggings on you! I’m a sucker for leather and suede pants…

  6. Love these looks, I just purchased the ribbed puff sleeve sweater and the dotted corduroy shirt…I love the velvet dot everyday shirt, but grey isn’t my best color. Now it’s to the closet, I’m trying the one in, one out theory…doesn’t always work….

    1. It is a great theory, but I agree, it doesn’t always work šŸ™‚

  7. Loved all these outfits. I’m not really a graphic tee kind of girl but do love plaid. I’m so glad it seems in more this year. Thanks for DRD.

  8. What size are you wearing in the Plaid Boyfriend Blazer in todayā€™s DRD from Loft? Love it but uncertain about the size since most reviews say it runs large.

    1. Iā€™m wearing an 8. It does run long but I wouldnā€™t say large for me.

  9. I’m a plaid shirt girl. I find them my go to in the winter. For some reason, sweaters sit in my closet. I wear a lot if fleece in the northeast.

Love the combinations of outfits. Thank you for doing the shopping.

    1. We do all have our go-to pieces. I love fleece but Iā€™m a sweater gal at heart.

  10. I did enjoy DRD as always.
Today feature of the Loft was great.
Loved every outfit. Thanks for your hard work.
