Dressing Room Diaries: It Was Dismal

Dressing Room Diaries: It Was Dismal

My daughter and I hit the shops this week, hoping to find some great things at the after Christmas sales. There were discount signs everywhere but our local selection was dismal. We even hit the outlet mall which was packed with shoppers but the selections were picked over.

I live in close proximity to many shopping areas but things got pretty cleaned out over the holidays so I decided to check online.

Chico’s is having their semi-annual sale with up to 70% off. This Faux Fur vest is a gorgeous color and perfect right into spring. This double knit cardigan is a classic to pull out year after year. Sequined leopard pullover from Chico's on A Well Styled LifeIf leopard is your thing, this sequin pullover would be great holiday after holiday.

Ann Taylor’s semi-annual sale is also offering up to 70% off sales styles and 40% off new things until January 1. This Cheetah Snood is really cute. I wasn’t near an Ann Taylor this week but plan to go soon to try on this sweater. I like everything about it, especially the neckline.

I’m a big fan of Eileen Fisher shoes and garments so always thrilled to find it on sale. Nordstrom’s Half-Yearly sale includes some great pieces.Eileen Fisher from Nordstrom on A Well Styled Life This Merino Ribbed Cardigan comes in 5 colors and is on it’s way to me in Charcoal:) Here’s another great cardigan at 40% off. I’ve always found Eileen Fisher shoes very comfortable and I expect these d’Orsay pumps would be the same. I love the sheer hem detail on this Silk Tunic, especially in the Claret color.

This is a terrific time to invest in holiday clothes for next year or find warm weather things for next spring. Really smart people begin their holiday shopping for next year… now. I’m not that organized but one can hope.

Did you find anything great at the holiday sales or are you all shopped out?

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

After hosting Christmas Day, hitting the shops in the dreadful heat was the last thing I felt like doing. As you found, most of the selections were picked over and looked as tired as I felt, except for a navy linen Majestic jacket which was half price.

While I didn’t really find a “sale” so to speak, I did go check out a new shop nearby. Well, really not new, but a location near me. Jill Alexander Designs is now in Los Gatos, and she makes clothing all the way up to 3X. While I don’t need the top of that size range, I often need somethings just a bit more roomy, especially in bottoms. Well, a little while later, I went home with two full outfits and even more, considering all combinations with what’s already in my closet. Jill really gets us curvy girls, be you a small or diva sized! Plus they are fantastic in there – such wonderful interesting ladies, helpful, professional, but I felt I made a couple of friends who get me and what I wear. I’m a happy girl!

That’s so awesome Kathleen! Finding a boutique and designer who fits your shape and esthetic is fantastic! It sounds like a great shop…I’ll have to come down and look.

    Jennifer,
The older I get, the less I feel like hitting the stores after the holidays, and, my experience has also been that everything seems to be thoroughly picked over. If I’m going to indulge myself for the holidays, I’ll shop the pre-holiday sales. I don’t mind paying a little more to find items I really want available in my size and my color. Also, I added a lot of new pieces to my wardrobe in 2017 and didn’t feel the need to discover any more “finds”. I’m giving my bank account a rest! Happy shopping to you, though. You always seem to discover some amazing items. Happy New Year, too.

I hear you, Kathy! Waiting for items to go on sale means risking them being available in our size and color. Happy New Year!
