Dressing Room Diaries – Joy

Happy Wednesday ladies. I’ve been doing a little Christmas shopping online and in-person so I popped into the dressing room to try a few things on. I’ve never thought of myself as a graphic tee person and this tee didn’t change my mind. I love the idea, but the execution just isn’t working for me:)  I do love the font which reminds me of “The Joy Of Cooking” but I’m going to need something less “graphic” 🙂

If you’re new here, dressing room diaries are when I go into stores and try on new merchandise so you can see how it looks on a woman who is older than 25 and wears a size large than zero. For reference, I am 5’4″, weigh 145 pounds with a long torso and arms. I have broad shoulders, narrow hips, and very little waist definition. The lighting is dim so the pictures are grainy, but you’ll get an idea of what things are like.

I love the fit of NYDJ and this is one of my favorite styles. It has a nice high rise and this burgundy color is on major sale. I am wearing a 6P, which for this brand, means it runs true to size. They always suggest you size down to allow for the massive amount of stretch their fabric has. I paired it with this lightweight waterfall cardigan from Bobeau. The wine color is heathered so softer color than the jeans but coordinates nicely. I’m wearing a small so I think it runs a bit large.

I’ve been loving bootcut jeans these days so gravitated to this Natalie style by Kut From The Cloth. They have plenty of stretch and a nice shape. I am wearing an 8p which is too large. The website suggests you size down, and I would agree. I would need to wear these with a 1″ heel to make the length correct. This Henley top comes in tons of colors and is very soft. I am wearing a small and would not go up to my regular medium so I think it runs large.

I love the cowl neck on this top. It’s warm without strangling the neck:) It’s a waffle texture fabric and really cozy. As with most Sanctuary tops, I went down to a small which fits well. So for this brand, it’s true to size, but if you’re not familiar with the brand, I would size down.

This cozy tunic is sold out in most colors, and I know why. The price is outstanding and it’s perfect for wearing with leggings. I am wearing a small, which fits well so it runs a bit large and I suggest you size down. It’s available in lots of colors, depending on the size you need.

This faux suede jacket is such a versatile piece. It comes in 4 colors and has a tie through the back of the waist so you can cinch it in. The long sleeves have roll-tab cuffs so you can make it very casual. I am wearing a medium which is a good fit for me so it runs true to size. This is a super soft and sumptuous feeling…as is most faux suede.

I’m gravitating to more casual items these days because it just makes the most sense for my life. If you’d like to see dressier items, please let me know.

Thanks for reading ladies and have remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

I appreciate the more casual items you’ve been styling. It’s a better fit for my Covid lifestyle and I suspect that’s a fashion movement we might be seeing for some time. And…I totally agree with you on the graphic tee; I think they look great on others, I want to like them, but they’re just not me

Do like the tops you featured, however due to our climate avoid anything too long to give me more option in choice of outerwear garments. i.e.: A cropped jacket. As to graphic tops; never wear them myself however on occasion have created my own clip art and have had them screen printed (by professionals) to give as a gift. i.e.: For the grandchildren who look forward to them, as their intention may be for a p.j. top that I personalize to their liking/interests; matching up bottoms to colour co-ordinate.

So enjoy your DRD and totally appreciate seeing you model the garments.

The graphics I like are the ugly Christmas sweaters. I have fun with them. I ask my neice to buy me one for Christmas and she said she couldn’t find one so she just picked a cute one. It is bright red with a huge fleece cat with ribbon around neck with bells. Sequin eyes, etc. LOL Yes, I wear it every year.
I love the cranberry jeans with the vest. I have trouble matching Browns but if the texture is different it seems to work.

Graphic Tees! I am double blessed up top so I tend away from graphic s with words across my chest. What about the stretching if it fits the shoulders and waist it is just a bit tight at the chest, not noticeable in a solid but put a word there and oops! I get quite enough attention there already! I am in a very tight lockdown so I really enjoy seeing you in the change room. I pretend we are out together and I critique every outfit. We are different body shapes but it is great to see clothes on a real body. Thanks.

You looked amazing in those cranberry jeans! It’s nice to see colors other than denim blue and black. I love seeing more casual clothes since that’s all that I wear. We can always dress them up with accessories. Thanks for modeling for us!

I always go down at least one size in NYDJ. They have a lot of stretch which makes them comfy but will stretch out during wear.
Casual is all I’m wearing these days. By casual, I don’t mean sweatpants or leggings but jeans & chinos. I don’t want to fall into the frumpy category, even if I don’t have anywhere to go.

Love the cardigan! I would wear it everywhere! Bootcuts jeans, yes. Henley shirt, yes. I love the style but I think I would like a looser fit around the boobs! 🌺♥️

Jennifer, as always, your DRD photos are interesting and fun! Thank you. Yes, to more casual clothes because it looks like we are not going anywhere anytime soon. One thing I have been doing while home (with quick trips to post office or library) is wear some of my better casual outfits every day instead of saving them for when I can really get out there. That has had a positive effect on my mood. By the way, I love cascade cardigans! That Burgundy one is lovely on you. Hope you bought it.

I feel like a walking billboard in a graphic tee! Every once in awhile Talbots will come out with one that I can relate to but I don’t purchase it. There’s something about a mature woman wearing dancing bears or a statement across her chest that looks silly to me! You look great in the leopard sweater!

I love the straight leg NYDJ in petite. Great price. I am trying to fine jeans in khaki and have had no luck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I’m so pleased you wear jeans too and style them so well. That gives me lots of options.

Love, love, love the burgundy outfit. It would be perfect for Christmas this year. You’re right about the graphic tee, with the extra pounds no one wants to wear a joy of cooking billboard. 😊

Thanks for sharing yet another DRD episode. I tend to gravitate to boat- neck and my ever loving vee necks in sweaters or tunics. You seem to look so good in everything you try on. I’ll be on the hunt soon– I need some color in my wardrobe! But first–Just getting some meal planning out if the way! I’ll be facing some serious wrapping soon too. Yikes.

I still need to buy wrapping paper!! I prefer to wrap as I go but that’s not happening this year.

I thoroughly enjoy your DRD blogs! It’s just fun to see what you choose to feature and I can imagine if it would work for me.
The cowl neck, spotted top caught my eye. Just wish it were longer and had a less voluminous sleeve. I also took a second look at the v-neck, tunic top. It would be so versatile. I would personally prefer a less deep cut v-neck.
Even though I am not adding any “special occasion” pieces to my closet, it’s still enjoyable to look at what’s new and available these days. If we can just hang in there, 2021 can be a year packed with many overdue celebrations!
Thankyou for keeping the positive vibes going Jennifer!

Thank you Jennifer for “getting out there” and showing us what is available. I agree with you over graphic tee’s as I don’t like people reading my chest, but I did find a good one at J Crew on the Cyber sale on monday for $12.00! It is a landscape picture of Switzerland ski slopes, like a postcard.
Thought it was cheery and fun! Be well, have a good week!

That sounds more up my alley. Cheery and a pretty picture
