Dressing Room Diaries: On the Run

Dressing Room Diaries: On the Run

Happy Sundays ladies. My week has been insanely busy. I lost an entire day driving two hours each way to get my hair cut and see the accountant. Another two days were lost dealing with real estate fiascos. We took a much-enjoyed break from house hunting this weekend but I was so burned out I forgot all about my grandson’s baseball game. That tells me my life balance is off and I need to recalibrate things. Family first, everything else second.

I did manage to squeeze in a lightning-fast trip to Ann Taylor and tried on a few things for a mini dressing room diaries. DRD is when I go into stores and try on clothes so you can see what’s new and how it looks on a woman over 25 and larger than a size 2.

I started with bootcut jeans and a green split neck pullover. This fabric is a mid-weight which lays nicely. It’s available in three colors in both regualr and petite. It has princess seaming front and back which is slimming. It’s available in both regular and petite. I’m wearing a regular in medium and would do better with the petite. The jeans are a slim boot cut which elongates the look of your leg without being too full. Many of you are holding firmly to your skinny jeans so this is a nice alternative. They’re available in the curvy or modern cut in regular, petite and tall. I’m standing on my tippy toes in the regular. I like this rise so would buy in regular and hem the legs. If you’re short-waisted you may not need to do that.green ponte top and white jeans on over 50 blogger in Ann Taylor dressing room

Here’s the same top with white jeans. The change in color and length of jeans makes my legs look shorter.

This Ponte Knit Moto jacket is a classic navy and white stripe. It’s available in regular and petite. The petite would be better for sleeves on me but the torso would then be too short. I love a great asymmetrical zipper because it’s very slimming. Because my shoulders are broad, I would only wear this partially unzipped. These white jeans are very high waisted with 3 buttons above the zipper. They’re totally opaque with lots of stretch and runs true to size. I grabbed the wrong size so these are pretty baggy through the thighs. I’m wearing an 8 but needed a 6. I have this mixed jersey tank in all four colors and love it. It’s a straight cut that hangs away from your torso and never clings.

The same white jeans as above, still too large for me 🙂 The lighting in this photo doesn’t show that this is a dark denim jacket. It’s made from Ann Taylor’s performance stretch denim so is very comfy. It buttons up the front and has a shapely peplum which makes every figure look slimmer! I would wear it partially unsnapped because crew necklines are not flattering with my broad shoulders. It runs true to size and is available in regular and petite lengths. I’m wearing a regular in a medium. The waist shaping fits my long torso at the right length so I would wear this length and roll the sleeves.

I love the proportions of the green top and pants! You look slim and your shoulders do not look broad. I know you said a petite would be better but I respectfully disagree. Love this on you! I also like the white jeans on you and the striped jacket and denim jackets look good. To my eye, the striped top looks short. I really enjoy these posts.

Thanks Lynn. It is pretty short which is why I would never consider it in a petite;)

I alter a lot even at 5’5”. Sleeves 2” for my short arms, pants a little bit, hems, some up, some down . I am a pear shape, with a small upper body, the oversized clothes don’t flatter as much.

Alterations can make or break an outfit on most women. I’m fortunate to be able to do some of them myself.

Too lazyand too cheap to alter unless it’s for a wedding. Love the styles you chose but like the classic jacket with zip the most. As I have a large waist and hips I would need it much longer. You are so lucky to have such a cute figure. Sometime dedicate a columnn to your exercise regimen. A lot of us need advice about what works!

At this point, I am only walking on the treadmill and using a few hand weights at home. That’s not nearly enough for my age bracket so I plan to add pilates on the reformer and go back to a few yoga classes.

I’m glad you enjoy Laurie. Self-criticism helps no one so I try not to do it.

So many cute things – and they all look great on you! Would love the striped jacket – but I ask myself, could I really use yet another blue and white striped top?? Probably not. And that peplum denim jacket – now that’s a unique addition I could definitely see in my closet! Can I quickly grab it before we leave for our Amalfi Coast tour this week??!??
