Dressing Room Diaries- Organic Fabrics and Soft Knits

Happy Sunday ladies and welcome to dressing room diaries. This is where I visit local stores and try on what’s new so you get to see how they look on a woman over 25 and larger than a size 2. I don’t do this to shop for myself so please don’t feel the need to say how things look on me. I’m doing this for you to show options and give you styling ideas.

I love causal dresses for ease during the summer, but too few have sleeves so I gravitated to this one.

The black and ecru color is neutral enough to go with most things and the hemp and cotton fabric will be very cool in hot weather. It runs true to size. I’m am wearing a small but would prefer a medium because my shoulders are broad and I’d want it looser in the summer. Nordstrom is price matching and has reduced this dress by 25%.

This very soft gray sweater is made from silk and organic cotton. I’m wearing a medium but because of the boxy cut, I would size down to a small. It’s also price matched and 25% off. I’d also wear this with white jeans throughout the summer. The graphite colored pants on the left are an ankle pant with a slight flare. They look quite cropped on the model but are a good length for my 5’4″ frame. These run true to size, I am wearing an XS but remember, I have no hips or backside. They’re in my all-time favorite crepe knit fabric which travels like a dream and weights nothing. The bone-colored pants are the same crepe fabric with a straight leg. I have three pairs of these pants in black, one pair in white and wear them. All. The. Time.

I really like this chambray cropped linen jacket …but not how I styled it here. It would look much better over jeans and a longer tank or topping a sundress. It runs true to size and is currently being price matched. I’m wearing an XS and need the shoulder room of a small. The matching linen pants do nothing for my short legs but if yours are long, they could be a great summer staple. They have a wide elastic waistband for comfort and would be very comfy in hot weather. This organic tank is available in black or white and runs true to size. It’s a great layering piece if organic fabrics are important to you.

Tencel mesh sweater… small on left … xl on right

This soft mesh sweater is a great layering piece which covers the arms without adding weight. I am wearing a small on the left and XL on right. I think the small is too snug and the XL is way too large so I would choose a medium. I like some drape in a sweater like this without looking sloppy. The color is the palest sky shade.

My smile may say it all here, I love this outfit. The mesh cardigan is cropped and a classic shape. It’s subtly textured mesh gives the snowy white color extra interest. I’m wearing a medium which fits perfectly because as above, I prefer light sweaters like this to be loose. This is the same cotton tank as above, half tucked into the pants, loosely. The white pants have a wider style leg and are made from organic cotton. They have a nice high rise and run true to size. I am wearing an 8, which my post-vacation body needs these days. I know many are not fans of wider legs but I like the balance it gives to my broad shoulders.

These white jeans (plus here)are slim and cropped which make them a great length for women with long legs and women with short legs like me. They’re available in regular and petite. I’m wearing the regular 6 which is why they come almost to my ankle. They have a nice high rise and are a cotton spandex fabric. White jeans can be tough to find, these ones are thick enough to be totally opaque. I topped them with this crinkle cotton dress worn open as a duster. I tried it on in a butter yellow color but the website only seems to show white so I would call the store and ask. I’m wearing a s/p which is large enough to wear closed so it runs true to size.

This organic cotton sweater has 3/4 sleeves and a swing cropped shape. The color matched tee is organic cotton. The sweater runs true to size, I am wearing a s/p. The Tee runs true to size but I need the petite version. I think I would prefer this sweater with darker jeans to balance it’s heavier knit.

Since my visit, Nordstrom has price matched even more of their Eileen Fisher pieces so it’s a good time to shop their new spring clothes.

Do you care if your garments are made from organic fabrics?

Thanks for reading and have a great day.

Very wearable and sane clothes. ? I love wide legged pants.

Hurray for wide leg pants! I’m just under 5’ and have been wearing regular lenth (hemmed a lot)wide legs in the summer for years! (Some were officially beach pants, but so long as they’re opaque, who cares what they’re called.) Now that the waistlines have move back to the waist ,I will wear petites again. The white short sweater (oh my, the price) over the white wide legs was perfect! I’ll be recreating that look at a waaay lower price point! I too have no hips/butt so I’m so much more balanced wearing wider on the bottom.

Love all these outfits. Perfect for summer. Now I just have to shake my piggy bank. I think the dress worn as a cardigan is my first choice. I especially like the off-white-ness of the sweater dress for my Casper ghostly complexion. The blue tee looks lovely on you. Hubby is watching golf, so I have a few hours to consider all the clothes.
    Have a great day.

So good to see EF pieces on a normal person. The models always look SO thin I can never guess how her clothes will fit me. It’s usually TTS, but that still doesn’t help me visualize them on me. I love the cornflower blue colors. Wide legged pants are a possibility for me, but the cropped length wide leg – not so much. They look cute at the length you show them, though.

Would you visit other stores periodically, for instance; Loft, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, J. Crew, etc., to show how their latest fashions look on a woman over 40:)

    • April 14, 2019 / 10:20 am

I visit a different store every week. I have covered all of these before and will do it again. Stay tuned:)

I would like to see other stores too. Nordstrom is crazy expensive.

I do cover other stores but Nordstrom is favorited by many because it offers free shipping both ways plus carries all price points.

Enjoyed this post! Thank you. I love Eileen Fisher and it’s great to see you trying on some of the pieces. I was considering the white crinkle cotton shirt dress yesterday! My thinking was to wear it open as a duster, like you did. It looks like it might be quite sheer. Did the sheerness bother you? Thanks.

Welcome Karen, I’m so glad you found me. It really is a pretty color and I’m disappointed I could not link to that color.

I am so in love with the wide leg pants at the full length they appeared to be on you. Unfortunately, a 27” inseam would make them cropped on me, which is a no go. ☹️ I do have a strong preference for natural fabrics, especially on my top half. It’s really difficult to find hot weather clothing with sleeves!

Love all those great outfits. I am probably too short for the wide leg pants but they look great on you. Hope you took some things home with you!

Good session! What did you purchase and what are the black shoes/mules you are wearing? I like them a lot.

Wow! I love all of these pieces…especially the first two frames shown here. Jen, showing that you are so slim and the clothes fall nicely and look great on you! My preference are the straight leg pants rather than the fuller leg, but naturally, realize the full leg look is very trendy now. The short sleeve dress is adorable and I like it as it’s not floral. Hurray. You look great!

This grouping of clothes shown today really do speak to me! Love them all…..
