Dressing Room Diaries Try-On Session at Chico’s

Happy Tuesday, ladies. If youā€™re new here, welcome. Dressing room diaries are when I go into a store and try on new merchandise so you can see how it looks on a woman over 25. For reference, I am 5ā€™4ā€³ and weigh around 136 lbs. I have an inverted triangle body shape with broad shoulders and straight hips. I have a long torso, long arms, and very few curves. I often wear one size larger on top than the bottom. Let’s get to the try-on session at Chico’s.

Chico’s sizing can seem confusing but it’s actually quite simple and allows the larger woman to shop without needing a special plus-size department. Most brands only go up to a size 12 or 14 and if you’re any larger, you are out of luck unless they happen to make plus sizes. Chico’s sizes are 00 (0/2– XS), 0 ((4/6 S), 1 (8/10-M), 2 (12-14)-L, 3 (16/18-XL) 4 (20/22-XXL. Vanity sizing? Probably but rather than see it as a negative, realize that they are treating women equally, no matter their size.

As always, you can click the red text for more info and to shop the item. Thank you so much for shopping through my links and supporting my business.

try on session at chico's with sparkly sweater and embroidered jeans
WEARING –Ā  SPARKLE SWEATERĀ  –Ā  EMBROIDERED ANKLE JEANSĀ  –Ā  METALLIC SLIP-ON SNEAKERS

I started at the first table in the store which had several sparkly sweaters and embellished jeans. This sweater has a bateau neckline which would help widen the look of narrow shoulders (not my issue). It comes in 4 great neutrals. I am wearing black in a 1. The jeans are embroidered with silver and goldtone leaves. They’re the girlfriend style which sits just below the waist, but so much that they don’t hold your tummy in. I am wearing a .5. I prefer when their jeans are broken up into one size only because I can count on the fit to be more accurate. These also come in tall.

WEARING –Ā  FAUX FUR VESTĀ  –Ā  BLOUSEĀ  – GIRLFRIEND SO SLIMMING JEANSĀ  –Ā  SLIP-ON SNEAKERS

I love the fit of these jeans and they now come in 6 gorgeous colors. This is the double espresso, a rich chocolate brown which I haven’t seen around much lately. It’s a great neutral so I am adding some to my wardrobe while I can. I am wearing a .5 in these too.

The blouse is a pop-over style with slightly full sleeves. It’s a sandwashed satin finish and very soft. I’m wearing the pale dogwood in 1 and find it runs a bit small across the chest. The faux fur vest is so cute! It’s a classic fit with an open front and band collar. I’m wearing a 1. I can see wearing this over lots of things year after year, which makes it a classic.

WEARING –Ā  PLAID TUNIC SHIRTĀ  –Ā  ELONGATED FAUX SUEDE JACKETĀ  –Ā  PULL-ON JEGGING

These pull-on jeggings came home with me. They don’t look appreciably different than the girlfriend jeans above, but I often prefer the ease of pull-on jeans. They come in regular, petite, and tall inseams. I am wearing a regular .5.

This faux suede jacket is unbelievably soft and luxe in the rich espresso shade. I am wearing a regular 0 so I went down one size. It’s also available in petite which I considered, but I like this length to go over tunic tops and sweaters this winter. This plaid tunic shirt is a perfect example of why a longer jacket is helpful. You could tuck the shirt in but with pull-on jeggings, it looks better untucked so it needs a longer topper like the jacket.

WEARING –Ā  ELONGATED FAUX SUEDE MOTO JACKET

This elongated moto jacket comes in this tan color and a pale gray. They have a slightly weathered, distressed finish and 10% spandex so they’re super stretchy and comfy. I am wearing a 0 and would go up one size if I planned to wear it zipped over anything like a sweater. It appears pinker on the website than I rememeber.

WOMAN WEARING GREEN JEANS
WEARING –Ā  WATERCOLOR SWEATERĀ  Ā –Ā  SO SLIMMING GIRLFRIEND JEANS

Same girlfriend jeans as I wore in espresso above, this time in jasper. I’m wearing them with a watercolor bateau neck sweater. They call the color navy, but it’s a mixture of aqua, pale blues, teal, and soft white.Ā  I’m wearing a 1. They also make a very nice long sleeve tee in this print here which they call treasured teal.

WEARING –Ā  TEEĀ  –Ā  COTTON-CASHMERE PANTSĀ  –Ā  COTTON-CASHMERE HOODEDĀ  RUANA

Chico’s brought back their cotton-cashmere collection this year in gorgeous colors. This ruana looks best untied but it does have a hood with a drawstring if you were so inclined. I struggle with the length of their ruana’s and think this one overwhelms me. The pants come in 6 colors, in regular and petite. I am wearing a 0 in regular. The long sleeve touch of cool layering tee on the left comes in 5 colors and is a great basic.

WEARING –Ā  NO IRON STRETCH FITTED SHIRTĀ  –Ā  PULL-ONĀ  JEANS

These are the same pull-on ankle jeggings as above, this time in cranberry spice. I’m wearing them with a nicely shaped, no-iron shirt. It’s got a really pretty floral in shades of raspberry, rose, cranberry on a soft pink background. Chico’s no-iron fabrics are some of my favorites because they really do come out of the dryer looking crisp. I am wearing a 1 and it runs true to size.

I love how these slip-on sneakers go with everything because they match my hair color:)

Are you a fan of pull-on jeans or jeggings?

Thanks for reading ladies and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

  4. Love that Chicos is doing browns this year! Seems like all my pants are either black, navy, or denim blue. You look great in all of them, and it looks like the length is perfect for you too! I do like the pull-on styles although I don’t always find that they fit or stay up as well, especially with jeans. I’ll have to try Chicos.
    Thanks for the fashion show!

I seem to have quite a few pieces of Child’s brand in my closet, most separate and both jeggings and pull-on pants. Sizing is a gamble, but since most things come in a myriad of sizes you have choices. The twinkle blue sweater reminds me of one I have, so will pull it out, check the name, and plan to wear it this season.

  6. All of the tops were very pretty, my favorite was the no iron shirt in the pink colors. It looks fabulous on you, and the blues also compliment your coloring. You look so great in nearly everything you wear. I too love the idea and comfort of pull on jeans! Iā€™m really set for winter wear at this point with a few wonderful cashmere pieces I snagged on sale at JCrew and Talbots. I did my share of shopping in November(for me) and December gift giving Yikes!

    1. I donā€™t know who came up with the concept of pull-on jeans but itā€™s a brilliant idea.

      1. Great idea for those of us who donā€™t belt anyway. If your sweater is out no one can tell. Iā€™ve even started weeding out some jeans with zips to make room for more pull ons. You do look wonderful in color. I have a nephew with coloring like yours. He just glows in certain e shades of blue and red.
