Dressing Room Diary- J.Jill Early Summer

Happy Tuesday, ladies. I’ve been struggling to find clothing collections to share with you that aren’t full of baby-doll dresses and puffy sleeves. I realize it may be a popular look for some of you, but it looks so ghastly on me, I couldn’t do them justice. I was thrilled to find the new J. Jill’s early summer collection that’s apparently, flying off their shelves. The store was packed!

Stores are still having delivery issues and many have cut back on stock so if you see things you like, you shouldn’t spend too much time thinking it over.

If you’re new here, welcome. DRD is when I go into a store and try on new merchandise so you can see how it looks on a woman over 25. For reference, I am 5’4″ and weigh around 136 lbs, I have wide shoulders and straight narrow hips. I’m an inverted triangle with a long torso and arms so I often wear a larger size on top, than the bottom. The shoes you see are what I wore into the store so they seldom coordinate with the outfits I try on.

Let’ start with a side-by-side to show a size comparison.

WEARING – LINEN PLEAT BACK DRESS – -PETITE SMALL ON LEFT – MISSES SMALL ON RIGHT

This linen shirt dress comes in misses, petite, women’s, and tall in XS-XL. I’m wearing a petite small on the left and a misses small on the right. It’s a snugger fit than I expected and I prefer the regular length on my legs so you should consider sizing up. It’s nice, medium-weight linen and is totally opaque. I intended to belt it, but it looks better hanging straight.

J.Jill has been altering the photos on their website to look warmer than they really are. The result is that the colors you see online aren’t always accurate. Someone needs to tell them this is not helpful for shoppers!

Anywho- this 100% cotton blouse is a clear white and pretty, delft blue floral. It also comes in two other patterns in misses, petite, women’s, and tall. I’m wearing a misses small which feels a bit large because it’s a relaxed fit. It has a shirttail hemline so I would probably size it down to the petite if I was planning to tuck it or tie it like this.

These linen sailor pants come in three solid colors and two stripes in misses, petite, woman, and tall, XS-XL. I’m wearing a small in regular which is almost ankle length on me and a bit large so they run true to size for J.Jill linen.

These are the same linen pants in the white and blue quartz stripe. This Pima cotton double V tunic with elbow-length sleeves is super soft. It comes in one print and three solids, XS-XL in misses, petite, womens, and tall. I’m wearing a small misses which feels too long for me so I’d probably opt for the petite, and I recommend you size down. You could wear it with full-leg pants like these, but I would likely choose a slimmer leg, myself.

This linen maxi dress is a great piece for the summer. It comes in gray or this plaid. I love gray, but honesty, it’s prettier in the plaid. I’m wearing the XS petite which is way too snug across the chest. Because it’s 100% linen, it has no stretch and so I would suggest you do not size down. It would be OK on the looser side, and probably cooler in hot weather.

The linen topper is woven with 3/4 sleeves and tabs to hold them rolled up. It’s an open front without buttons so just flows and would be great over most things. I’m wearing a small misses but would likely go down to an XS or even an XS petite because it runs large. The braided belt is one of those things you’d reach for again and again in a neutral, cognac color. I’m loving this shade in accessories more and more with white as an alternative to black or navy.

This sleeveless linen top has beautiful knot buttons. It comes in 3 colors in misses, petite, and women’s. I’m wearing a small misses and it feels too long so I’d opt for the petite if I was going to wear it over wider-legged pants. It’s fitted with darts and has side slits for ease of movement.

This A-line tunic is a linen and rayon blend that’s very soft, airy, and not totally opaque so have your nude bra at the ready! I’m wearing a small in regular, and if I was going to wear it with this type of leggings, I would not go down to the petite. The back has pin tuck detailing to help give it some shaping. The Pima cotton crop leggings come in 6 colors, misses, petite, and women’s. The colored ones have 8% spandex and the white ones have 4% spandex so these will never bag out. I sized up to  petite medium because they run snug.

This floral maxi dress is a light cameo pink with navy, in a flattering A-line. It’s sleeveless with cut-in shoulders and you’d need a racerback bra so your straps wouldn’t show. It has self-covered buttons, pockets, and high side slits. I’m wearing the small in misses.

*This is a personal preference, but I prefer my maxi’s on the longer side because they help me look taller.

I popped this open linen cardigan in navy over the dress for some arm coverage. It comes in 6 colors, misses, petite, women’s, and tall. I’m wearing a misses XS but think the petite small might be a better proportion and hit closer to my actual waist. These are such great little sweaters to wear over everything in the summer.

The linen top has a woven linen front with knit linen back and sleeves so it’s super comfy and stretches. It comes in 4 colors in misses, petite, and women’s. I’m wearing a petite small which fits well and it runs true to size.

I had to laugh when I saw these pictures because my hair certainly got trashed during this try-on session.

I think every woman in the dressing room was trying on this knit maxi dress. It’s a cotton blend with 5% spandex and super comfortable. The waist and princess seams give it a pretty and flattering feminine shape. It comes in two solid colors and one print in misses, petite, women’s, and tall. I’m wearing a misses, small which puts the waist seam, just slightly above my natural waistline so I would not wear the petite.

Has it started to warm up in your neck of the woods? We hit 91 yesterday and it’s only May!

Thanks for reading and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

All these outfits look lovely on you Jennifer. I’m struggling with the wide leg crippled pants…love the look but not sure I can pull it off. I’ll keep mulling; wear what makes us happy and confident 👍🏻

I am a very small petite 5 feet and90 pounds I wear a double 00 and XXS. The only place I can find clothes that fit me are Banana Republic and The Loft. I have tried on both J Jill and Talbots clothes and find their sizing to be different than other petite stores. There clothes is huge on me. It’s too bad really because while I am not a huge fan of linen I do love all the bright beautiful colors in Talbots clothes!
