Dressing Room Diary New Collection at Loft

Happy Tuesday, ladies. My local retailers look like they are all having fire sales with rounders of summer stuff on massive sale, and fall stuff on small racks up front. I stopped into Loft to see what was new and found a few things to share. If youā€™re new here, welcome.

A dressing room diary is when I go into a local store for a try-on session so you can see whatā€™s new and how it looks on a woman over 25. For reference, I am 5ā€™4ā€³ and weigh around 134 lbs. I have broad shoulders with straight hips, a long torso, and long arms. I often buy one size larger on top. Youā€™ll see me try on clothes in colors and shapes that may or may not flatter me because I want you to see whatā€™s in the stores and get some styling ideas. I tell you what sizes I am wearing to help you understand how things run.

Just so you know, these fall clothes will look goofy with my sandals because it was 102 degrees the day I went to Loft šŸ™‚ The underlined items are links you can shop at no extra cost to you.

ZIP NECK SWEATER / RACER BACK TANK / SLIM CHINOS / LONG OPEN CARDIGAN / SANDALS

These slim chinos are a Loft customer favorite. They come in nine colors, straight and curvy, sizes regular, petite, and tall, 0-18. They’re a cotton/spandex blend with a tapered leg and a 10 1/4 inch rise. I’m wearing a regular 6.

The Lou & Grey zip neck sweater comes in black, white, or this green. It’s 100% cotton and comes in sizes XXS-XXL. I’m wearing a S. The racer tank underneath comes in 5 colors, XXS-XXL. I’m wearing a small. The long cardigan comes in four colors in petite and regular, XXS-XXL. I’m wearing a regular S.

KNIT HERRINGBONE BLAZER / RIBBED NECK MOCK SHELLĀ  / SUTTON PANTS

This blazer does not appear to have hit the website yet, but it’s the same as this one, in gorgeous soft gray. I’m guessing your local store will have it. The mock neck shell is a cotton blend that comes in two neutrals and is a great layering piece for when it’s fall but not cold. It comes in sizes XXS-XXL. I’m wearing a medium that is too long in the armholes, so it runs TTS.

The slim pants are in a gray tweed/type knit that comes in straight and curvy, regular and petite, sizes 0-18. I am wearing a curvy 6, which is loose through the hips, so it runs true to size (TTS).

EVERYDAY WHITE SHIRT / ANIMAL PRINT BIAS SKIRT IN EVENING OLIVEĀ

If this skirt weren’t in a warm color, it would have come home with me. I’ve been on the lookout for an animal print slip skirt that fits well, and this does.Ā  Zippers seldom lay flat on this type of skirt, so I like that this is a pull-on style. It comes in regular and petite sizes XXS-XXL. I’m wearing a regular medium but would prefer the petite. I always suggest you size up for bias cuts so they don’t pull across your body.

The cotton blend white shirt is a great classic that comes in regular and petite, XSS-XXLK. I am wearing a petite medium, and the sleeves are too short on my long arms, so it runs TTS. Of course, I almost always roll my sleeves up because it helps me look taller šŸ™‚

LONG OPEN CARDIGAN / RACERBACK TANK /Ā  HIGH-RISE WIDE LEG CROP JEANS IN EVENING OLIVE

There’s no denying that wider pants are everywhere this fall. These jeans have a nice high rise and cropped length. They come in regular and petite in this olive or a warm dune color. The regular rise is 12 3/4″ rise, and the inseam is 26 1/2″, which is ankle length on me. The petite inseam is 24″ with a 12″ rise. I’m wearing a regular 28. The racerback tank comes in 5 colors, XXS-XXL. I’m wearing a M, which is a bit long in the armholes, so it runs TTS.

BOYFRIEND CARDIGAN / STRIPED EVERYDAY SHIRT / SUPER SOFT GIRLFRIEND JEANS

Here’s a boyfriend cardigan worn with girlfriend jeans. I thought that was weird, but I guess I’m easily entertained šŸ™‚ The jeans really are super soft! They come in straight and curvy, regular and petite. My sizes were sold out, so these are curvy, size 29, which is too large and full through the hips, so they run TTS. I also need the petite in these, so it’s an all-around size failure on me.

The striped shirt is 100% cotton in whisper white and navy. It comes in petite and regular sizes XXS-XXL. I’m wearing a regular small, which fits TTS. The cardigan is a great fall piece but wearable earlier because it’s 100% cotton. It comes in 4 colors, regular and petite, sizes XXS-XXL. I’m wearing a regular small. I would prefer a medium because boyfriend cardigans are supposed to be slightly oversized, so I think this runs a bit small.

HERRINGBONE KNIT BLAZER / RIBBED NECK MOCK SHELLĀ  / HIGH-RISE WIDE LEG CROP JEANS IN ECRU / LONG OPEN CARDIGAN

Same wide leg jeans, long cardigan, and mock neck shell as above. On the left, I’m wearing a herringbone knit blazer with tons of fun details. The under collar is an accent color, and it has matching elbow patches, which you can see on the gray one above. It comes in regular and petite, 00-18. It’s got a relaxed shape and classic styling you can wear for years to come. I am wearing a regular 6, which fits perfectly, so it runs TTS. I prefer the wide-leg jeans with the shorter blazer…what do you think?

LONG OPEN CARDIGAN / MOCK NECK SHELL / PIN TUCKED TAPER PANTS

Same long cardi and shell, this time with new-to-me stretch pants that are super comfy. They have a slim tapered shape and pull-on styling with a stitched front seam. They come in seven colors in regular, petite, and tall in sizes XXS-XXL. The inseams are petite 24 1/2″, regular 27″, and tall 30″. I am wearing a regular small. The color I’m wearing is aubergine.

Thanks for the DRD’s…..saves us a trip sometimes.

Re the ANIMAL PRINT BIAS SKIRT IN EVENING OLIVE……what is the difference between a skirt that ends at the widest part of your lower leg and capri pants that end at the widest part of your lower leg? They seem equally unflattering to me.

    1. They are. This one is too long on me, so I would wear the petite or even roll the waistband over. Midi is tough unless it ends where your calf begins to narrow. Stopping at the widest part is just unflattering.

  2. I’m another one a bit surprised to see the wide legs everywhere, and I need some help styling them. My body isn’t well suited to them–I am short-waisted, and fluffy around the middle to boot so dislike tucking things in as a rule. What to do? In your photos above, adding the blazer or long cardigan adds some verticality which helps. In my case, the horizontal line of the shirt would be higher, though. Maybe all monochrome? I’ve been wracking my brain trying to recall how we wore this before–and what I recall is sleeveless vests (similar to the Talbots one of a few days ago).

    1. A column of color (monochrome) is a great idea and is always slimming. Wider legs generally look best with shorter tops but you can see how the thin longer outer layer works.

  3. The sandals! I want them! Did I miss a post on those beauties? Thanks for any info you care to share.

  4. Would the skirt, even though it is warm, not work since it is on your bottom half?

    1. I could certainly wear it, but I’d have trouble with accessories, etc.

That was one of my favourite dressing room diaries. I think I really like loft the best. My local one has closed I must see if thereā€™s another one in Vancouver. The long sweaters look gorgeous all the colours look fabulous on you even the turtle neck! In this heat! Thank you

  6. Thanks, Jennifer. You showed a lot of different looks. I’m happy to see some grays (prefer darker shades), and I love the eggplant and plum shade. I hope to see more of them. Did you notice any jade greens at all or bright yellows? I was on the Ann Taylor site yesterday, and there were some nice pieces as well as some prints. BTW: the blazer over the long cardi any day.

    1. There was not a lot of new merchandise on the floor, but if Ann Taylor has it, I suspect Loft will too because they are sister stores.

  7. Love the soft look of the long cardigan paired with the wide leg pant. Elegant. Thank you.

  8. Wow, a really great tryon session. Love all the colors this year. The green really looks nice on you. I’ve decided I need a blazer and some wide pants. Thanks for braving the heat

    1. You can ease into wide pants because brands all make different widths. I love mine

      1. The long cardigan looks much better with slim pants.

  9. I have a question. The long cardigan is a favorite of mine, but I’m not sure what length to purchase – reg or petite. Which length looks the best? – above the knee, at the knee, or below the knee?

    Thanks!
    jmp

    1. Below or at your knee gives you closer to a 1/3-2/3 ratio which is most pleasing to the eye. Gauge it by your height.

  10. Great DRD today. I love the olive and deep aubergine colours for fall. I’m not a fan of bias cut skirts – they always feel like they’re twisting. Does anyone else have that problem? Thanks for sharing, Jennifer.

    1. I think thatā€™s why I was happy going up a size in this one. It didnā€™t ā€œhugā€ as tightly.

Thanks! Dressing Room Diaries is my favorite!
Would you consider doing a Diary for Banana Republic? My local BR has closed, but I an intrigued by their current offerings and wonder if you think things are worth the price? I am ready to pay if the quality is there.

    1. Iā€™ll visit them and check it out. I love BR!

  12. I love the gray blazer. I think we will see a lot of gray this coming season and I welcome it. You look great in this blazer that could go with so many things in our closet. Thanks again for sharing!

    1. I love gray so Iā€™m happy to see it! It blends with my hair šŸ™‚

  13. I really like the new blog format Jennifer. It’s clean, sophisticated and easy to navigate. Well done.

    1. Iā€™m so glad you like it!

Lovely rich greens! Thank you for the post and showing us what is available, especially in the heat. I did like the skirt. Happy week šŸ™‚

    1. The mall is nice and cool šŸ™‚

  15. I love the grey blazer, too. Thanks for the tip.
Iā€™m a little surprised to see the wide legged pants hanging around. Would have bet on a one year wonder last fall.

    1. Nope. They appear to be a long term trend not a short term fad.
