Dressing Room Diary- New Knits From Chico’s
This time of year, brands have all their cold-weather clothes marked down and not many new things on the racks. I did have a bit of success at my two local Chico’s, so I have some new knits from Chico’s for you today.
If youāre new here, welcome. AĀ dressing room diaryĀ is when I go into a local store for a try-on session so you can see whatās new and how it looks on a woman over 25. For reference, I am 5ā4ā³ and weigh around 139 lbs. I have broad shoulders with straight hips, a long torso, and long arms. I often buy one size larger on top. Youāll see me try on clothes in colors and shapes that may or may not flatter me because I want you to see whatās in the stores and get some styling ideas. I tell you what sizes I am wearing to help you understand how things run.
Chicoās sizing can seem confusing, but itās actually quite simple. Most brands only go up to a size 12 or 14, and if youāre any larger, you are out of luckā¦unless they happen to make plus sizes, which are fewer and far between these days. Chicoās sizes are 000(0/XS),Ā (0/2ā XS), 0 (4/6Ā S), 1 (8/10-M), 2Ā (12-14)-L,Ā 3 (16/18-XL) 4 (20/22-XXL. Chicoās also carries many garments in petite and some in tall. Iāll tell you what Iām wearing in Chicoās sizes so you can understand how things run.
These pants are part of that sale. I couldn’t resist trying them on because they have slim legs that are more straight than calf clinging. They’re charcoal gray in a pull-on style which I find really versatile. I’m wearing the regular length and have the hem folded under 1″. They’re 50% off :). I paired them with this 3/4 sleeve paisley top in soft watercolor aqua blues and ivory. This top will be great going forward into spring and summer in a cotton/modal blend.
I love the crisp pleats on the sleeves of this striped poplin top. It’s in a classic navy and white striped cotton blend with 3% spandex for a comfortable stretch. It has a slight shirttail hemline (cut up at the side) to help elongate your legs. I paired it with the customer favorite, Brigitte basic pant in navy. These also come in 4 other colors and in tall!
This ultra-soft, lightweight knit sweater comes in 4 colors. It has a slight bateau neckline which is flattering on ladies who are wider on the bottom. I paired it with these pull-on jeggings in a sea salt shade that coordinates with the top for a column of color. They are marked way down. I topped this look with a faux leather moto jacket in coffee cream. Chico’s faux leathers are unbelievably soft and supple. There are snaps to keep the collar and lapels down. Or you can wear it all open.
This snap-neck poncho is in Chico’s featured new shade, striking teal. It’s a cotton blend that’s kissed with cashmere and spandex, making it soft, lightweight, and a great layering piece.
This floral intarsa sweater is black with the outline of flowers in white, puntuated with bright teal. It’s a tunic length that will go well over jeans, slim pants or leggings. I’m wearing it over straight-leg ankle jeans in the moonglow indigo wash which is 1/2 price and fully stocked in all sizes.
This tweed cardigan jacket is 2 sizes too small for me, but I was anxious to try it on because it’s a great shape and color. It would be easy to dress up of down. I’m wearing it over a smocked sleeve tee in a faux denim color. It’s a very soft Lyocell blend with a flattering V-neck and full sleeves that have a feminine vibe. Full sleeves are fun so long as they don’t get land your food. These won’t because of their smocked cuff.
I was anxious to try this jacket on in my size, so the next day, I went to my other Chicos. Turn’s out, it’s called a denim coatagin, but it is tweed, it is sweaterish and it is as great as I expected. I’m showing it buttoned but I would probably wear it open. I’m wearing it over the deep wash ankle jeans in venus indigo. These are also on sale and fit terrifically.
Are you a fan of seasonal dressing? Chico’s has you covered with lots of Valentine’s Day options. This sweater is a french rose color with black and red hearts. It’s a shorter, petite friendly 25 1/2″ long so doesn’t overpower shorter gals. I paired it with these pull-on jeggings that have the outline of one heart painted on the left leg and a tiny heart on the right cuff. The rolled cuff is tacked up to an inseam of 27″ and also comes in tall.
There were lots of new knit blazers in the store, but only one of these left. It’s a deep indigo blue with fringed edges along the front collar and sleeves. I know the photo is dark so you’ll see it better on the website. It’s double breasred with color-coordinated buttons, in a stretchy cotton blend that has Chanel vibes. It is unlined which keeps it light, and allows it to stretch. I’m wearing a size 1 but could go down to a 0 because of the stretch. It’s super cute and a great piece to dress up or down.
This sweater comes in 10 colors; I’m wearing blue horizon. This lightweight sweater is a great layering piece. It’s funny but the website says it has a back zipper, which I did not see. It’s just a pullover. The knit moto jacket is on the short side, so it will pair nicely with wider bottoms or skirts. It has princess seaming which adds some nice shaping and the stretch keeps it comfy.

I love the denim coatigan. Last jacket I purchased from there was in a petite.
It fits me perfectly. My concern is sleeve length. How would say it ran in size.
It looked great on you?
The coatagin sleeve was ok on me, but I do have long arms.
I am a day late getting to see this post, but had to say I loved every outfit and piece of clothing you modeled. You look beautiful in them all! My favorite items were the jackets, especially the motor jacket. I love Chicos!

You lock so smart in jeans! The sweater jackets are a very good look for you as well. Unfortunately, I live in rural Colorado and donāt have clothing shops available. I shop online and try to use sizing guides. I am 5ā2ā and currently am 143 pounds. Winter seems to do this to me. Normal weight is 140. Now. I am up at least 8 pounds but here is where I am. I love sweater jackets! I have a sweater fleece jacket from LL Bean and a sweater coat with hood from them this year. Perfect for warmer days here. I wear 12 usually but having waistline problems. My hour glass figure has turned into an apple! Pull on knits in leggings and straight legs are my only comfortable pants. I wear Sport Knit pants from Lands End as well. I love your style and try to stay in the navy, column look with a scarf for a dressier look.

I do like Chicos and have discovered that while I wear a size 12 most of the time, Chicos. Size 1 fits me the best in tops. I do love that poncho, the color is Devine !
Chicoās sizing is unique and fabulous!!
Iām not one to dress for the holiday. I donāt wear sweaters with Christmas themes or Valentine hearts Or Halloween scaryā¦ As a nod to Christmas, I wear a little sparkle on a sweater. I think itās a waste of money to buy an article of clothing for a day or event. Plus, itās not my style to wear cutesy.

I do like sweater jackets and these seem to fit you perfectly. Iām a bit shorter than you (5 ft 3ā) so wonder if theyād be too long to the lower hip however?

I am not sure that I checked all the denim trousers Jennifer modeled but you might want to do so. None that I checked came in Petite.

Love the sweater jackets and the booties! I would buy the boots in a heartbeat if they were still available and without a heel. The navy sweater/jacket has that Veronica Beard vibe at a fraction of the price.

THe denim coatigan is so cute! I might have to look into that one. I bought a wool moto jacket from Chico’s a couple of years ago and I love it. I am sure the jersey one would be just as versatile. You have some great pics from Chico’s in this blog!

Thank you for the inside scoop! I love the Chanel-ish jacket look and am surprised to see it at Chicoās. I think of it as a more tailored look than Chicoās usually carries.
I love tweedy Chanel type jackets too. The knit versions are so soft and stretchy.
