Dressing Room Diary- Spring Color at Loft

Happy Wednesday, ladies. The closer we get to spring, the more color we’ll see offered in stores. I stopped into Loft for a DRD yesterday and ran into more stripes than I expected. Stripes always make me happy, so I just went with what I found:) BTW- Loft is currently giving up to 40% off many new styles, but only for the next two days.

If youā€™re new here, welcome. A dressing room diary is when I go into a local store for a try-on session so you can see whatā€™s new and how it looks on a woman over 25. For reference, I am 5ā€™4ā€³ and weigh around 138 lbs. I have broad shoulders with straight hips, a long torso, and long arms. I often buy one size larger on top. Youā€™ll see me try on clothes in colors and shapes that may or may not flatter me because I want you to see whatā€™s in the stores and get some styling ideas. I tell you what sizes I am wearing to help you understand how things run.

DENIM JACKET size M / RIVIERA SLIM PANT size 6 / FLORAL MIXED MEDIA SHELL size S

Loft makes these Riviera Slim pants in new colors every season. It’s a great fitting pant that comes in six colors, in regular, curvy, petite, and tall. The regular has a 10″ rise and 27″ inseam, which works well for my height. This mixed media shell is woven in front and a lightweight knit in the back for ease of movement and comfort. It’s a relaxed shape in such a bright, happy pink. They also make this short sleeve top in the same print. This denim jacket is in a nice deep wash with all the classic details you’d expect in a denim jacket. Its timeless appeal will go with so many things.

TEXTURED RAGLAN PULLOVER size reg M

For those of you who dislike dropped shoulders, you may appreciate this raglan pullover., I know I do. It’s 100% cotton and comes in four fun colors for spring, in regular and petite, XXS-XXL. I love that it perfectly matches the blue of the Riviera pants for a column of color.

RUGBY TOP size regular M / MUNROE SLIM CHINOS size 4

I mentioned over the weekend how cute this rugby top is, and I was not disappointed when I finally got a chance to try it on. It doesn’t get more classic than this for a sporty/ preppy vibe. It comes in three colors, including a cheery pink. It has a slight puff in the shoulders, which femininizes the shape. These great-fitting chinos come in five colors, in regular, curvy, and petite. Their cotton/spandex blend will be cool in warm weather. They have a 10 1/2″ rise with a 27″ inseam in regular and a 24 1/2″ inseam in petite.

STRIPED CARDIGAN size S / BOAT NECK TEE size M / HIGH RISE SKINNY JEANS size reg 28

I wanted to compare these skinny jeans to the Ann Taylor ones I shared here last week. Did you know that Loft is a sister store to Ann Taylor and has many similar looks at a lower price point? These are not petite like the ones I tried on from Ann, so they’re s smidge too long on me, but they fit just as nicely but seem to have a bit more room through the thighs. This striped cardi has many colors to coordinate with any layer you pair it with. This small feels snug on me, so if you want to layer it over anything but a tee, I’d suggest you size up. This regular is 22″ long, and the petite is 21 1/2″ long. The tee underneath is ribbed, so it’s snug fitting. It comes in this bright aqua or red.

BOYFRIEND CARDIGAN size reg M / STRIPED TEE size S / SKINNY JEANS

This striped tee is 100% cotton in deep space blue and ivory. The weight is heavier than a reg tee and lighter than a sweatshirt which feels perfectly cozy for this time of year. I topped it with this shaker stitch cardigan in fresh meadow green. It has a relaxed fit with a dropped shoulder in 100% midweight cotton. It comes in reg and petite, XXS-XXL. It’s roomy, so you don’t need to size up in this.

STRIPED BUTTON SHOULDER SWEATER in reg M / MONROE SLIM size 6

This striped sweater comes in three colors; this is deep space blue. I was happy to find this with set-in, not dropped shoulders. ( I hope this is the beginning of a trend to move away from drop shoulders) Because they’re set-in, I sized up to a medium and like the loose drape. It’s a very soft, lightweight rayon blend. These are the Monroe slim-fit pants in a 6, which are loose on me.

CROCHET TEXTURED STRIPED PULLOVER size M / DAISY BANDANA

Just as I was leaving, I spotted this striped sweater displayed with a bandana scarf tied around the neck of the mannequin. What are your thoughts? Is this a dated look or still a stylish way to add a touch of color to an outfit?

  1. What is your colour type Jennifer, a cool summer or a cool winter?

    1. I am a true summer which means muted and cool but more saturation than a soft summer and cooler than a light summer. I get washed out in soft summer colors. Interesting you mention winter. Iā€™ve been typed as a winter before but itā€™s too intense for my coloring. I need cool as do true winters.

  2. Iā€™ve only recently discovered you – youā€™re the same height and virtually the same weight so seeing you model clothes is brilliant! I had to smile when you modelled the striped top and neckerchief scarf and asked if itā€™s now old fashioned. Iā€™ve only just learnt recently that you can wear different patterns together. I have been sporting a striped jumper with a small floral scarf thinking I was really on trend!, šŸ˜‚

    1. Welcome! You are right in style.

  3. I think a scarf is still a classic look, and it looks really cute with the sweater you’re wearing. I don’t wear them because I find anything tied around my neck to be irritating, but I love the look. Also, I would be ordering the striped 3/4 sleeve tee shirt if they had left off the words on the front! I have been looking for a great looking striped Breton style tee shirt, but this is disappointing. In my opinion, it cheapens the look. Oh well, thanks for all of the inspirational ideas!

  4. Thank you so much for the Loft fashion show…and trying on so many clothes. I was so ready to purchase the stripped cardigan, but was hesitant on the length. After seeing you model the cardigan, I knew it wouldn’t work for me, unfortunately. My body type needs more length. I do love the Loft, and your blogs….

    1. I’m so glad it was helpful… that’s my whole goal.

  5. I am a hard NO and all the styles today. I am extremely overweight so stripes add weight all over for me. Especially the wide ones that have the look of “Where’s Waldo?” books. I wore bright blue pants like those in the 1970s but am not a fan now. I thought you said skinny jeans were out!?!

    1. Skinny jeans are not trending but brands are still selling them, because many ladies love them.

  6. What brand are your eyeglasses?

  7. Loving the beautiful shades of green and blue that are trending this spring!

  8. Love the blue sweater and pantsā€¦.does that blue have purple in it? Either wayā€¦.great color.

Would you consider pix from the back? I have no stores nearby so shop online. Seeing front and back helps me with fit, drape and sizing.

And agreeā€¦your hair looks great. Would you share mousse youā€™re using? And how to apply. I canā€™t seem to use mousseā€¦gel or something more liquid works better. I never know quite how to handle that big puff of foam!

    1. LOL, I think half the mousse ended up running into my ears. It’s the Kevin Murphy. When I get back into practice, I will do a video on how I use it for you.
I’ll try to remember to take photo’s from the back.

I love your eyeglasses . So pretty. If you donā€™t mind, what Brand name and Model number are they? Oh and what size lens, like 51? I would be interested to see if those glasses would work for me if I can get them in my area. It is so hard to find eyeglasses anymore as brick and mortar optical stores are cutting down on stock and itā€™s difficult to use the online pictures when you canā€™t see without your glasses. Thank you for your posts on glasses as they are helpful.

  10. I’m glad green is trending. So many pretty shades turning up in the stores.

  11. Love Ann Taylor and the Loft.
    There clothes are my style.
Love the green and white tops. So Spring like.
All the outfits were beautiful. Thank you for modeling.

    1. I love them both too.

      1. Very nice , iā€™m petite 5 feet. I just find the pants. not long enough they come to my above my ankle. Iā€™m 100 pounds. I canā€™t wear a Mrs. itā€™s too big in the waist but I do shop at the loft and then in Ann .

  12. Good Morning,
Just purchased two cardigans for Loft-the striped one you show and a blue marled “Chanel” look open front. The stripe works ok i purchased a mediun petite doe to sleeve length. The blue cardigan pilled on the first wearing-off to the donate box. I find Loft makes very long sleeves and very tight sleeves. I am 5ft 3in and weight 125 .

  13. Love stripes! Cute outfits on you!

  14. I’ve always loved stripes! I bought that stripe sweater and chinos from Nords that was in a previous post of yours and they fit great. Love the blue and pink. So pretty. Also love the column of blue. I do like drop shoulders since I’m so small on top. Helps to balance me out. Do love the look of the neck scarf on you with a pop of color. Not dated at all. I think I need to take a trip to Loft one of these days soon, since I’m having a knee replaced in about 3 weeks, YIKES!

    1. Good luck with your surgery, Deb.

  15. A great sale on the striped sweater. I always find something on sale I like at the Loft. More cotton in a sweater the better for me.

    1. They always have lots of cotton sweaters which I like for warmer weather.

  16. Really nice looks! I have overdone blue in my wardrobe and think the fresh green will be a nice change. I don’t like tight things around my neck, so I never got into tying on a bandana / scarf even though I own them. I still tie them on handbags though. I shop Loft periodically but will look again based on this DRD.

  17. I havenā€™t been in Loft in awhile, and now I need to go! I love seeing that they offer natural fabrics and classic shapes and patterns.

  18. Catherine says:

Some of these outfits are cute, but the bright blue ā€œcolumn of colorā€? Noooooo! Unless you want to look like a flight attendant.

    1. I find a navy suit can have that effect but not this blue. I like it together.

      1. It depends on oneā€™s skin and hair color and on you it looks great! You can carry it off. Our coloring is similar only my hair has white and silver stripes now. I would love that outfit too. The bandana looks cute on you. Who desires what is in style, you do. The horizontal stripes are risky on me as I am busty and two inches shorter than you. You carry them off well as you have a lovely balanced figure.

      2. Stripes can be tricky. You may find narrower ones with low contrast works better on you.

  19. Love the colors and the fun stripes! Yes, Iā€™d wear them. You look really good in all those bright colors. Glad to know about Loft as Iā€™ve only been slightly familiar with them, will find one nearby. What I like most about your choices is how fresh and modern they look. In other words, a mature women looking fresh and stylish and pretty without being uncomfortable. I do not wear scarves and think those big, bulky wrap around your neck scarves add a lot of bulk, almost a thing to hide behind. The smaller scarf adds some whimsy or fun to your outfit. Thank you for always showing us new ideas and fresh styles.

    1. I love Loft for that reason. Theyā€™re always having sales too!

  20. I love the look a small scarf adds. It is a great way to add a pop of color, and can be easier to wear than a larger scarf, which can dominate an outfit. It is jaunty and cheerful and a bit of French chic.

  21. Such refreshing looks with all the stripes! I learned from you that drop shoulder sweaters are not my friend since I too have broad shoulders. It’s been hard to find tops without them the past couple years, maybe because of covid and the relaxed lounge wear vibe. So glad to see sleeves that are inset again. Thanks for the great try on today.

  22. You really have a great selection today Jennifer. I wish Loft had stayed in Canada – I had shopped there a few times in the few years they were here.
I am loving the jade green for spring but as yet have not seen much in our stores. I am seeing some cobalt blue and magenta and a bit of lavender and pastel pink. Spring merchandise is trickling into our stores now, so maybe in a few weeks I’ll find some green.

    1. There is a lot of green here, so you should be seeing much more soon.

  23. I love the timeless look of a smaller scarf. I wear them with my crew neck cashmere sweaters for a pop of color and a little extra warmth. I donā€™t think they ever go out of style .

    1. I’ve been looking for a jean jacket, and this one looks good and had great reviews. It’s ordered! (along with a couple of other sale items) Thank you!

  24. I’m with you on liking stripes. They make me happy too. Really like the striped cardigan. There is so much you can do with it. So great that they have tops without drop sleeves. Hope we see more of that for spring šŸŒ¼

    1. Me too!!! Theyā€™re more flattering on many of us.

  25. I do shop occasionally at the Loft. Several of their classic, cotton shirts get repeated wear. My donation bags included several scarves. Itā€™s been an accessory that just doesnā€™t have the same appeal that it once had. My winter scarves serve a purpose.
I am always drawn to stripes also but itā€™s not always my best look. I do wear a striped tshirt layered beneath a denim shirt or jacket. Maybe they add a bit of youthful vibe.
Youā€™re looking so ready for spring Jennifer! Love your hair!

    1. Thank you Jan. I switched to mousse lately and it seems to be giving my hair extra oomph. šŸ˜€

  26. Kathleen Cappabianca says:

Pretty, vibrant colors and such a classic look. I like the look of the bandana scarf and donā€™t think it is outdated. Really ties (pun intended!) the outfit together.

    1. Glad to hear you like it!

  27. Love the straight leg pants today. Personally, I am moving away from the skinny jeans although they look fabulous on you! Love the rugby look. Your hair looks great by the way!

    1. Thank you! Iā€™ll take all the good hair days I can get.

  28. Nice items, I see some shopping happening here.

  29. Pat Patterson says:

Excellent choices today! Such happy clothingšŸ˜€šŸ˜€

  30. Jennifer you hit it out of the park as did Loft! WOW!! Love all these spring looks, every single one of them. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Wish I had an unlimited budget, lol.

    1. An unlimited budget would be fun!
