Dressing Room Diary Try-On Session at Loft

Earlier in the week, I let you know about a dupe I found for my Isabel Marant belts, so I popped into Loft to see it in person. I ended up buying the chocolate-colored one because I want to add more of that color to my wardrobe this fall. I bought the M/L but it seems sort of skimpy so I’ve ordered the XL/XXL to see if it’s a be letter length to wrap.

If you’re new to dressing room diaries, welcome. This is when I go into a store and try on new merchandise so you can see how it looks on a woman over 25. For reference, I am 5’4″ and weigh around 136 lbs. I have an inverted triangle shape with broad shoulders and straight hips with very few curves. I have a long torso and arms so usually buy one size larger on top than the bottom.

As always, you can click the red highlighted text for more information and to shop directly.

These high-rise slim flare jeans in this pale wash don’t seem to be on the website yet…grrrr. I hate when that happens. They’re this style of jeans in a lighter wash.

Cropped cardigans continue to be popular this fall. I love this little gray one in the chunky, soft cotton knit. It comes in regular and petite, XXS-XXL, I’m wearing a small in regular. This would be adorable over a long white shirt or other long tops because it gives waist definition without nipping in. The V-neck tee is tunic length and pretty classic. I like that it’s totally opaque and has short, not cap sleeves, which I’ve seen too much of for my arms this year. It comes in 4 colors, I’m wearing Dawn Eclipse in a regular small.

I love this classic white shirt. This one is tunic length and longer in the back than the front so it really is better to wear over a pair of leggings or slim pants. I didnā€™t find a pair to try it this time around so I tucked it into the jeans. I’m wearing a small in regular and it’s quite roomy. We were chatting about wraps yesterday and Loft has a great selection of shorter ones. This wrap comes in XS-S, M-L, XL-XXL. I’m wearing the XS-S and it has plenty of room.

I just swapped the cropped cardigan for a V-neck pocket cardigan in Pressed Petal. It comes in 4 other colors in regular and petite, sizes XXS-XXL. I am wearing a small in regular. It’s a bit oversized so runs a bit large. If you want a slimmer look, go down one size.

Here’s that tunic shirt untucked so you can see the length. Perfect for slim pants or leggings. Same plaid wrap as above, this time in black and with, size XS-S, this time with straight black jeans. These haven’t hit the website yet either but I can tell you they’re called the 90’s Straight. They’re a high-rise, straight-leg with a finished bottom. I hope they load them on the site soon.

WEARING – BORDER STRIPE WRAP – TEE – PATCH POCKET WIDE LEG CROP JEANS

This Border stripe wrap comes in this camel and cream or black and white. It’s sized XS-S, M-L, XL-XXL. I’m wearing an XS-S and it’s very roomy so I think you can size down with these. It has a seam under the arm to create a loose sleeve so it stays put better than ones with no stitching. That also means you can’t toss one side over your shoulder, so there is that to consider. Two reviews mention a smell when they took theirs out of the bag…these had no odor so it could be a packaging issue.

These wide-leg cotton crop jeans are so fun, I love them. They come in regular and curvy-sized 24- 34. I’m wearing the curvy which are a bit too loose on my hips because I am straight. They’re fitted at the waist and hips then ease into a wide leg with an inseam of 28″ which is ankle length on me. They also come in dark dark rinse denim here.

I couldnā€™t resist another gray and white leopard sweater, this time itā€™s a pullover with a half zipper. I can’t explain why the website calls this pink champagne because it’s gray and ivory with no other shading. It’s super cozy and I love the great collar for popping. Iā€™m wearing a small in regular.

On the left are some pull-on stretch pants that have spandex so they will retain their shape.

They also come in a beautiful sienna red which I plan to go back to try on. They’re a thin knit so the leopard sweater I have with them is really too bulky. They’re available in regular, petite, and tall sizes XXS-XXL. I’m wearing a small in regular.

Knitwear and knitwear sets are very popular this fall and it’s a great step up from athleisure for those who are ready to wear less sporty clothes. I can see these with a knit top, (perhaps matching) a nice belt to tie it together, some simple jewelry, and slip-on sneakers.

Can you envision knitwear sets for your at-home wear this fall?

Thanks for reading ladies and remember to wear what makes you feel condfident.

  1. I ordered the Isabel Marant belt but it was too small so I sent it back. I ordered the loft ones in xl and they fit perfect. For the price difference they work just fine for me.

    1. Awesome! I got the Loft one in chocolate brown and love it

  2. Loved everything!! I really like your hair too! Looks great!!

  3. Iā€™m thrilled that wider legs are returning. Iā€™m 5ā€™3ā€ and petite, and the wider leg balances my hips. However, the thing I see amiss with how they are being styled ( and doesnā€™t work for me) is the wrong proportionsā€¦ wide legs need extra length, and height in shoes to create a balanced proportion, especially for women who are not tall. . . The nice thing about slim leg pants is that flat shoes look right with them, regardless of height.
But itā€™s different with wide legsā€¦and. cutting the wide legged styles short to wear with flat shoes just looks to me like what we used to cringingly refer to as
    ā€œ floodsā€.

    1. I prefer mine with a bit longer to cover my shoes and just ordered some jeans that do.

  4. I loved all your outfits today, but especially the border stripe wrap, tank and cinnamon tone pants. I find ruanas to be especially fun to wear in the fall and winter. Guess it’s time to put away the summer clothes!

    1. Today is our first coolish day so Iā€™m ready

  5. I love sweater sets Jennifer and Iā€™m so happy to see retailers stocking more of them. They suit my more minimalist style. By the way, the Nordstrom hydro cotton terry robe you featured a few posts ago arrived and I love it! Thank you again Jennifer.

    1. Iā€™m glad you love that robe as much as I do:)

  6. Not a fan of wide flares but found TWO pairs stashed away in a fall clothing container. I’m going to have one cut to 25″ inch inseam – cropped on me — and be on-trend. What a hoot! I can’t deal with tucking in long/tunic tops; I feel like the Michelin tire guy. Love the wraps: up East we can wear them inside as weather cools. TKS!

    1. Great way to try a trend! Free

  7. Cute outfits! Your hair cut is so cute at that length . It erases years from you.

  8. Susan Haggerty says:

I LOVE that belt!! EXACTLY what Iā€™ve been looking for!! Going to my local store today!! So happy you posted it!!

  9. Love all the looks on you today. I would really like to try a wrap, they look so fun. I don’t know if I’ll ever be a fan of wide leg pants. Seems like I’ve been there done that. Thanks for giving us such great ideas!

  10. Like the sweaters and wraps.
Like the knit wear but not the wide leg.
I just canā€™t get into that look.
    I will keep trying!šŸ˜¬

    1. No worries if wide legs arenā€™t for you, just pass on the wide legs. Thereā€™s lots of other options for you this year.

  11. I love that pressed petal color on you, and find that it really suits my coloring, too. This is a much better choice for me than rust and other fall colors. I like them, but they do not like me in return. So glad to see choices that work for a variety of complexions this fall.

    1. The choices do seem heavily skewed toward warm tones to Iā€™m actively hunting out other options for us.

  12. You absolutely rocked the outfits today!! Love the plaid wrap so so pretty,,, the white tunic under the cropped sweater looks fabulous untucked as I would wear it, I love that look.,Have a great weekend Jennifer šŸ™‚šŸ™‚

    1. I love that short over long look too. Happy Thursday

  13. Paulette Levy says:

Love all the ponchos and sweaters and those great cinnamon cropped jeans too! The lighter wash jean shades just dont move me for some reason!
Iā€™m stuck on shoes to wear with shorter crops slight flare jeans? Sandals fine, but once it gets cooler ( if it ever does) I wonder about booties?
Love some of our local Lofts new fall offerings, though usually (other years past) donā€™t find anything there. I just got an armload of jeans and white shirt there. Happy Thursday Jennifer!

    1. I think booties will be great with them. Happy Thursday, Paulette

  14. Maribeth Conklin says:

I just don’t seem to be a fan of ank!e length pants or joggers. Seems wrong to me. Lol I like the wrap and the sweaters.

  15. I really like the knitwear sets. I bought a sweater & ankle length pant set last month in a heather grey, and then just the other day found an oversized V neck sweater that matches. I plan to wear that when running errands today.
And wraps are perfect this time of year.

    1. Those sound great!! Iā€™m all for knits this year.

  16. I really like the Siena red pants and the ribbed sweater. Thought I’d mention that I ordered the spices colored quilted coat from Talbots that you modeled for us and absolutely love it! Thanks for your efforts on our behalf. I’m not going out to many stores these Covid days, so your reviews really help.

  17. Sorry but not keen on any of those outfits. Will be giving Loft a miss this season.

  18. I love the latest knitwear sets! I just bought one in a heathered gray yesterday. I would have bought others if budget allowed. Versatile, cozy and a more polished casual look.

    1. I think theyā€™re going to be great for the winter.
