Dressing Room Diary Try-on Session in Ann Taylor

Happy Friday ladies. I haven’t done a try-on session at Ann Taylor for many months so, with the new fall stuff in, it seems like the perfect time! The colors and textures are simply yummy this season.

If you’re new here welcome. A DRD is when I go into a store and try on the new merchandise so you can see how it looks on a woman over 25. For reference, I am 5’4″ tall and weigh around 136 pounds. I have an inverted triangle body shape with wide shoulders and straight hips. I have a long torso, long arms and I often wear one size larger on the top than the bottom.

WEARING – MODERN PONCHOIVORY BLOUSEBOOTCUT JEANSCHEETAH PRINT SHOES

These are my jeans, love them, and ivory blouse worn with the Ann Taylor Modern Poncho which comes in 3 colors, one size fits all. The pale gray and black are super useful colors but this Olive is elegant and fun for fall.

WEARING – DROP SHOULDER SWEATERFAUX SUEDE PANTSPLAID COAT

There’s a lot of faux suede this year and I am loving it all! These trousers have a high rise and straight leg with a hidden side zipper for a smooth front. Curvy version here. I’m wearing a 6 regular and they are very long so I am standing on my tippy toes:) They’re available in regular and petite sizes 00-18. The color is a cool-toned porcelain/taupe.

I paired them with this V-neck, drop shoulder sweater in the same color as the pants (I love a good column of color). It’s sized from XXS-XXL and runs large. I am wearing a medium but could have gone down to a small.

I tried this coat on with several outfits and it went with everything:) It’s available in regular, petite, and tall sizes XXS-XXL. I’m wearing a small because that’s all they had in the store, but I would be curious to try the petite medium. It’s gorgeous and the plaid colors mean it will go with a lot of things.

WEARING – V-NECK TUNIC SWEATERBI-STRETCH AUDREY PANT

This V-neck tunic comes in 4 colors sizes XXS-L. It’s on sale so selling out fast. I am wearing small and it’s large so you could size down in this one because it’s quite wide. The pants are Ann Taylor’s popular Audrey fit in a marled gray fabric that’s bi-stretch that feels amazing. They’re available in regular and petite, sizes 00-14. I’m wearing a 6 regular but I need the petite so I would go to the 8 petite. When you switch to petite in AT, I always suggest you go up one size.

WEARING – V-NECK TUNIC SWEATERBOOTCUT JEANS

This V-neck tunic sweater is the most gorgeous shade of teal, I could not resist. I’m wearing it over these high-rise bootcut jeans. which are virtually sold out in their straight cut but fully stocked in the curvy fit. They’re sized 00-18 and are quite long so again, I’m standing on my toes. They run true to size with a nice high rise.

WEARING – SEAMED FAUX SUEDE SHIFT DRESS

This buttery faux suede shift dress is so fun. I see it worn with tights and flat booties for casual days. I’m wearing a petite 8 on the left and a 6 regular on the right. It has a back zipper, boatneck and hangs straight from the shoulder. They describe the color as walnut shell which looks like taupe to me. It’s also available in tall, which might be a great option for many women who prefer a longer length.

WEARING – REVERSIBLE PONCHOSCOOP NECK 3/4 SLEEVE TOPFAUX SUEDE MIDI SKIRT

This fun reversible poncho is 100% cotton. I love the soft contrasting colors and versatility of a piece like this. I am wearing it over their scoop neck 3/4 sleeve top that fits beautifully. It comes in regular and petite in 3 colors XXS-XXL. I am wearing a regular in a medium. The faux suede midi skirt is available in regular, petite, and tall in sizes 00-18. I’m wearing an 8 petite. It runs very TTS.

WEARING – ANIMAL PRINT BOYFRIEND CARDIGANV-NECK SWEATER – BOOTCUT JEANS SOLD OUT

This cardigan has a nice V-neckline which I always love because they look great over a collared shirt and scarves nestle nicely in the V. It comes in regular, and petite sizes XXS-XXL. I am wearing the regular in small so I think it runs TTS. They have a similar cashmere version here which immediately hit my wish list:)

  1. You look great in everything. I especially like the jeans. I have never tried on a poncho but they always look so comfy on you, now I want to try one.

  2. The shift is very flattering to your overall look. The jeans are really nice too.
The tops are too oversized for me….a little bit (loose) is good for small-framed women. AT has some nice clothes this season.
    Thanks!

You look gorgeous in the faux suede pants with matching sweater, as well as the faux suede dress (petite fits you perfectly). What great color on you!

There are so many lovely things today — that plaid coat and animal print cardigan really caught my eye.

Ann Taylor really stepped it up this season!!!

    1. They have! I found nothing in past seasons so I’m thrilled to see this one.

  4. How do you feel about the proportions with the olive poncho? As a short person, I tend to feel overwhelmed by all the fabric and my legs look short. Would matching the pant color to the poncho help?

    1. Matching the pants would help a lot with the proportion. But they don’t have to even match. Pants in the same depth of color and intensity would accomplish the same thing. If the poncho was a heavyweight fabric, texture, or pattern, it would be less wearable for a shorter woman.

Are you doing style chat today?

    1. Not today. Susan and I are both traveling

  6. Ann Taylor has done a beautiful job of matching the plaid on this coat. Too often, less expensive brands fail to do this. I saw one recently where one sleeve was properly matched, but the other was not. It pays to spend more when buying plaid. This is perfect.

    1. Pattern matching is such an important indication of quality. This coat is really nice

  7. I love the blue plaid coat. I get by with my jackets here because we donā€™t get cold but Iā€™ve always yearned for a long coat like that. I do like th unicorn. It looks like a great basic piece to own. I would love to see a winter accessories post on caps, hats, gloves, mufflers, earmuffs, etc. Anything trending there?

    1. Unicorn? Really spellcheck? The word was tunic.

      1. lol! I do way worse with spellcheck
        Have a great day

  8. Thanks for sharing your try on session. Some really nice options. I especially like those boot cut jeans, they look nice and long! I wish there were some reviews to read about fit.
I love it when you give a suggestion about appropriate footwear. Iā€™m always at a loss for what to wear down there.

    1. Theyā€™re fitted through hips and thighs. Itā€™s a small flare. Just enough to cover your bootie or shoe

Loved the boatneck faux suede dress. So cute with boots. And, the blue plaid coat is wonderful! Sometimes I find that AT is difficult for me bc I have more of a curvy figure and petite.
