Dressing Room Diary- Winter At Loft

I was looking at what’s been popular with AWSL readers over the last six months and realized that many of you shop at the Loft. It’s been a while since I checked out their offerings, so I headed in for a dressing room diary of the winter collection at Loft. The discounts are massive this time of year, so you may see some items that will work into your wardrobe.

If youā€™re new here, welcome. AĀ dressing room diary is when I go into a local store for a try-on session so you can see whatā€™s new and how it looks on a woman over 25. For reference, I am 5ā€™4ā€³ and weigh around 138 lbs. I have broad shoulders with straight hips, a long torso, and long arms. I often buy one size larger on top. Youā€™ll see me try on clothes in colors and shapes that may or may not flatter me because I want you to see whatā€™s in the stores and get some styling ideas. I tell you what sizes I am wearing to help you understand how things run.

RIBBED OPEN CARDIGAN smallJEWELED COLLAR EVERYDAY SHIRT size mediumSUTTON SKINNY PANTS IN GREEN CHECK size 8

Throughout this post, I am wearing my newest high-cut Sheec no-show socks. They’re warmer than most no-show socks, and you can’t see them in my low-sided boots. I wear these fleece-lined no-show socks in my booties with full sides.

This cardigan comes in four colors. I’m wearing spruce green which coordinates perfectly with these check-print Sutton pants. It’s a slim cardigan without buttons and very soft. The classic white shirt has a few crystal jewels on the points of the collar that I would wear long past the holidays. It’s machine washable and comes in petite. The pants have a high rise and lots of stretch so they fit beautifully. The Sutton Pant comes in tons of colors and prints here.

LEOPARD TOP size mediumĀ – STAR SEQUIN CARDIGAN size largeFAUX LEATHER PANTSDOUBLE-BREASTED COAT regular small

I grabbed these faux leather pants in a 10, which are too sloppy on me because they’re meant to be a slim fit.Ā  They have a self-belt I’d probably replace with something that lays flatter, perhaps in suede or like this calf hair leopard faux print. It’s refreshing to find faux leather in something other than black. I paired them with a leopard print top that would go with so many things. It has a relaxed fit and subtle ruffle detail down the front.

I loved this cardigan with star sequins, and apparently, so did everyone else because this was the only sizer they had left in my store. This double-breasted coat caught my eye the moment I walked in the door. Its classic lines and flap pockets make it timeless enough to be stylish year after year. It also comes in emerald or pink, which makes a stunning statement! It also comes in petite, which might have a better sleeve length for me.

DOUBLE BREASTED BLAZER size 10 petiteV NECK SWEATERFAUX SUEDE LEGGINGS medium petite

You can see the sleeve length on this 10m petite is much better for me. This blazer is another timeless piece. It comes in camel or bright cobalt, which is stunning. It’s got a relaxed fit and would be great over jeans all winter and into the spring. I seldom close blazers, so I’d wear this unbuttoned over sweaters and blouses for a relaxed vibe. The flap pockets are more refined than patch pockets, so you could dress this way up if you wanted. The faux suede leggings are super stretchy and comfy. One of my favorite things about faux suede leggings is the fabric is thick enough to camouflage lumps and bumps. This outfit would look great with a riding boot like this.

DRAWSTRING NECK SWEATER size smallFAUX SUEDE LEGGINGS size medium petiteFLEECE JACKET small

I’d style this outfit with a substantial and casual bootie to add visual weight and add balance to the jacket. The drawstring neck sweater comes in two colors, and I think the stone heather would coordinate better than this silver heather. It’s soft, cozy, and a great length for slim pants. The Fleece Jacket is wonderful! I’m wearing the coconut color, and it also comes in a pale oyster which has a cool cast. The fuzzy fleece is inside and out, making it extra cuddly.

JEWELED BUTTON V-NECK CARDIGANPULL-ON PLAID PANTS

I’m not sure about these plaid pants on my figure. They’re a pull-on style with front pleats that only seem to flatter tall, thin gals and add bulk to everyone else’s tummy area. The plaid is fun, with a shot of metallic thread through it. The V-neck jeweled button cardigan comes in four colors, reg and petite. I’d wear it over a simple tank or blouse. This looks eerily similar to this Talbots Jewel button cardi at less than half the price.

JEWELED SHOULDER BUTTON DRESS regular XS BOOTS OLD-SIMILAR HERE

I’m a big fan of sweater dresses that don’t cling. This straight shift skims your figure without adding visual weight. I’m showing black, and it also comes in emerald. I’m wearing a regular. The petite is 3/4″ shorter. Even with black tights, I prefer this length on me. I think these do run generously, so you could size down. It’s hard to see, but this has raglan sleeves which are very flattering.

FAIR ISLE SHERPA regular small – FAUX SUEDE ANKLE PANTS –SIMILAR

This fair isle sherpa top is cozy and festive for this time of year. It has a mock neck you could turn down like a turtleneck. I prefer it simply scrunched down to keep it more relaxed looking. It’s cozy and warm but not too thick to half-tuck in the front.

More cozy finds at Loft

I like that Loft carries both petite and regular lengths. Are you a fan of Loft? Is petite sizing important for you?

Thanks for reading, and be sure to wear what makes you feel confident.

  1. I loved this fashion show! Some really great outfitsā€¦ones I could easily wear. So hard at this ole retired age now, to not dress too young nor ā€˜old ladyā€™ as my two daughters call some of my fashions, haha! You have given me lots of inspiration this year too, and Iā€™m so thankful I found your blogā£ļø Happy New Yearā€¦

  2. I have a few items from Loft – I only buy petite sizes, so I appreciate that. I think some of their fabrics leave something to be desired and they use acrylic a lot in sweaters, which is a negative for me. All that being said, I love and just ordered the sequin star sweater you featured, which breaks all my “rules” šŸ™‚ because its not petite and I’m not in love with the fiber content. Thank you for sharing it!

    1. I think youā€™ll really like it. I did and itā€™s not even my color!

  3. Maybe you have covered this before but can you post on well fitting jeans that donā€™t bag by the end of the day. I need room in the waist and stomach but then the legs are too big and they are too long. My tailor is getting too expensive. Thanks Jennifer.

    1. I need to know the proper fabric content of jeans.

    2. It sounds like you have a shape like mine. Look for slim cut with no less than 2% spandex.

I donā€™t seem to find many things at Loft. Occasionally I am surprised. I usually shop at Talbotā€™s or J Jill. I have found incredible sales at both of those stores this week. The jeweled cardigan you mentioned at Talbotā€™s is an extra 40% off their sale price with another 20% off. I have had to buy a new wardrobe this season due to an over 40 pound weight loss. Iā€™m thankful for the sales!
Thank you for taking us shopping with you!!

    1. Congratulations! Thatā€™s wonderful.

  5. Love the Loft styles in DRD. Especially like that oyster fleece jacket.
All the outfits were a plus in my book.
    šŸ„³ Happy New Year

  6. Thanks for this DRD! I wish there was a Loft near me, I find their clothes to be more appealing than Talbot’s. I love that first outfit with the sweater & jeweled collar.

    1. That’s the beauty of shopping online! I do most of my shopping online šŸ™‚

  7. Love Loft. I ordered the last top you showed and canā€™t wait for it to arrive. It seems like their shipping takes F O R E V E R!
Sending you wishes for a Happy New Year!

    1. I’m really impatient with shipping too. I think Talbots is even slower šŸ™‚

  8. LOVE LOVE LOVE Loft and your dressing room diaries. I really appreciate them.
I went to Loft yesterday-picked up 3 sweaters, jeans, top, all for about $80. What a find. Love the fire of Loft clothing for me. 5’6″-135, curvy, 66 years old.
I am a redhead-so it is a challenge with colors. I stick with blues, greens, white.
    Love your posts!

  9. I don’t shop regularly at Loft, but I really need petite sizes for my short arms and narrow shoulders. I love the Dressing Room Diaries, Jennifer! You help me see items that I never would have found on my own. And even though ou body shapes aren’t similar, it’s really helpful to see how things look on you. The models just don’t give me a goog idea of how something would look on me, LOL!

  10. I feel our Loft store might be in trouble ( staffing/inventory) as I cannot find anything that appeals to me thus fall and winter. The staff who are working are pleasant but racks and shelves are not displayed with any planning I feel. Not much to look at. . Lighting has changed to a dimmer type and the store just has a dreary feel.
I do like the short Sherpa jacket youā€™re wearing! Really cute.

    1. My store has changed its merchandising style as well and is not as appealing. I prefer shopping online.

I was at Loft yesterday because my 30-yr old daughter wanted to go in. I ended up buying for myself 2 beautiful sweaters with a matching scarf. Everything was on sale. Iā€™m going back! PS – just bought those lined socks for my booties – its cold here in Chicago!

  12. There is a Loft store close by, and they have amazing sales and selections. I have found some really cute blouses, cardigans, pants there. I am petite size.

    Happy New Year!

  13. I really miss our loft store here. Petites are the only size I can really wear. I really like all the outfits on you. Happy New Year šŸŽ‰

  14. Thanks for all the try-ons at Loft. I haven’t been to the mall for a while, but need to head there to check out some of these items. Love when you do these try-ons because some of the items, I’d probably walk right past when I’m in the store. Thanks for bringing a variety of pieces to our attention!

  15. I love that Loft has petites and periodically check out their clothes. I bought two sweaters a year ago. Typically, though, I don’t shop there. Like Talbots they appear to have little interest in sustainatiliby, and much of their stock is polyester. Their clothes, though, are generally well made = the pull-on pliad pants are beautifully matched.

  16. Pat Patterson says:

You look amazing in the black dress, I have never stopped in the loft, must add it to my list of new stores to shop, Thanks for the suggestions.
    Happy New Year!

Loft is a rare stop for me. Youā€™ve brought it to my attention. Iā€™m 5ā€™7ā€ with a long torso and short arms. Petite is very important to me in tops. Sleeve length really canā€™t be adjusted in knits and I find a shorter overall cut is more flattering to my proportions.

    1. Thatā€™s fascinating about your fit issues! Iā€™m so glad you shared it. Thank you

  18. Loft also has a few tall sizes. I bought a similar long dress coat there last year, and while not the warmest, looks and fits great. I love their bright, fun styles.

    1. They do have some fabulous coats! I love my trench from them.

  19. Great choices, Jennifer! Thanks and Happy 2023!

  20. I really started shopping at Loft because of you! Iā€™ve purchased several tops and some Monroe ankle pants last summer. Also got a couple sweaters from there as Christmas gifts. Iā€™m fairly tall, 5ā€™8ā€ and their regular sized pants fit just fine. Great sales too!

    1. I love those Monroe pants too. So polished looking!

  21. So sad, the pink is sold out in the coat, that would have been perfect. The dress is also great. Hope Vanessa got back without any trouble at the Vancouver Airport, such a mess there.

    1. The weather has been awful so many places!!

  22. I shop at Loft because I am a petite. Liked several of the outfits you wore. A blessed New Year for you and your family.

    1. I love to share brands that carry petite and plus sizes.
