Elevated Fall Wardrobe Basics For Less

It’s quickly becoming my favorite time of year…cashmere season. My fall and winter uniform for the last few years usually involves a cashmere sweater, jeans, and some booties or sneakers. As I transition my wardrobe over, I’m noticing some of my cashmere did not survive the summer storage as well as others.

This post is sponsored by Nordstrom Rack and Shopstyle Collective. I’ve bought some amazing treasures at Nordstrom Rack lately, so I’m always excited to work with them. They have many brick-and-mortar stores, but I always have my best success online where the selection is largest. Here’s what I found this time.

CASHMERE CREWNECK in small / HIGH RISE BOOTCUT JEANS size 29Ā  / CASHMERE SCARF / SIMILAR SHIRT / JOHN HARDY HOOPS / SIMILAR BOOTIES

These yummy 360 cashmere crewnecks for 59% off. This is a timeless classic I can wear for many years to come, available in eleven colors, sized XS-L. It’s a mid-lightweight knit that easily layers over or under things without adding bulk.

Navy with burgundy is quickly becoming a favorite color combo this fall, so I added this pure cashmere scarf. They’re both cool, mid to deep-intensity colors, and together, they create a low contrast.

I’ve always loved the slimming look of bootcut jeans, so I’m glad to find them plentiful this season. These Hudson Bootcut jeans have a nice high rise and about a 30″ inseam, which is perfect for me with a low bootie. Bootcut is a universally flattering shape that helps balance wider hips or shoulders.

CASHMERE CREWNECK / KUT FROM THE KLOTH JEANS sold out, SIMILAR HEREĀ  / HOOP EARRINGS /Ā  DR SCHOLL’S BOOTIE / CASHMERE SCARF

Here’s the same cashmere sweater, this time in Mallard. How could I pass on this color? I’m wearing it with a pair of Kut From The Kloth straight-leg jeans that sold out in a flash. That’s the thing about the Nordstrom Rack… if you see something you like, you need to jump on it because things go quickly! Here’s a similar pair with a slimmer leg.

I’ve been a fan of John Hardy’s jewelry for many years and was happy to find these sterling silver hoops. John is a Canadian artist and designer who was inspired by the jewelry-making traditions in Bali. He creates artisan, handmade pieces with a unique look and rich history. His things can be pricey, so finding them at 50% off is always a treat.

360 CASHMERE CREWNECK / SIMILAR JEANS / FLAT BOOTIES

Here’s the same cashmere sweater in Sheepskin, which I would describe as a cool beige. I’m wearing a medium here, which is very roomy, so I think they run generously. If you love cashmere as much as I do, Nordstrom Rack has a large selection you can shop here.

A reader asked which booties are best to wear with ankle-length jeans. My favorite is a short shootie. What’s a shootie, you ask? It’s a very short boot that ends at or below your ankle. Many have a split shaft which I like because they make my feet look smaller by breaking up the length with a flash of ankle.

Nordstrom Rack offers free standard shipping on orders over $89 or you can get your order shipped to a Nordstrom Rack or Nordstrom location for free. They also have easy returns to any Nordstrom Rack or Nordstrom location! It’s always a good idea to keep an eye on their daily flash events here, which have extra special discounts.

Do you wear shooties?

Thanks for reading, and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

  1. How do these sweaters compare to the cashmere sweaters from onequince? Iā€™m pretty sure youā€™ve also shown us a few of those.
Thanks Jennifer! Just want to add that I love how your hair looks!

    1. Thank you, I finally got a haircut šŸ™‚ I don’t know how these will wear yet, but they do feel softer than my Quince.

Just placed an order for a rust cashmere crew neck pulloverā€¦ $149 CAD is reasonable for good cashmere, and this colour will be a good addition to my fall wardrobe, going well with my longer sweater coats and scarves for this ā€˜warm autumnā€™ woman.šŸ Money from my lucrative consignment sales is becoming very useful ! Like you, Jennifer, I look forward to the cooler days.

    1. Thatā€™s a great price for cashmere šŸ™‚

  3. I found I can wear cashmere and not itch , by wearing a shirt underneath. I can wear the lightweight ones here in Texas in the winter. Perfect sweater when I visit daughter in UK.

    1. Great tip about the tee shirt. It would work like a slip!

  4. Cashmere is my favorite ! I even bought an oversized sweater several years ago to sleep in on cold nights.
Iā€™m glad you offer info on finding personal contrast levels. I found similar info a few years ago and it was a real game changer for getting things
ā€œ rightā€ in my wardrobe and outfits.
The rolled cuff, short pants featured are not appealing to me. I think they would make my legs look shorterā€¦ not what I want! Those longer jeans are perfect.

  5. Oh those earring are right up my ally and do love the Mallard color on you Jennifer. Also shall add, your pose in the No. 5 pic certainly translates and reveals that you have a beautiful side profile that matches your lovely simle. -Brenda-

    1. You are so kind, Brenda. Thank you

  6. I envy you. I know cashmere is not supposed to be as bad as wool for kicking up the allergy, but it does it to me. Itch, itch, itch.

    1. That is a shame. I used to have an allergy to cashmere and wool, but it’s gone away.

  7. I love the cashmere sweaters. And the shooties! Thanks for the information.

  8. Todayā€™s outfit is very ā€œyouā€. Itā€™s also what i like to wear. I have shooties that i purchased from Scholls at half price in late spring. They have small perforations so i wore them in the summer instead of sandals, which i cannot wear. I now wear socks with them for warmth and that seems to look ok.

  9. I agree with Susan. I love shooties but winter in New England is too cold for ankle jeans and no socks. Iā€™m having a difficult time finding longer length jeans, however. Iā€™d appreciate any suggestions you may have.

    1. Bootcut are best or a wide enough straight leg that covers your socks.

  10. The gorgeous cashmere sweaters and scarves certainly elevate a favorite pair of jeans! I am seeing a lot of burgundy and navy this fall and feel itā€™s a classic combo.
I am trying to make responsible choices in any purchases that I may make this fall. Maybe I only need to add several items to update my wardrobe. Mindfulness is on the front burner for me today. Possibly, one of these cashmere sweaters would be all that I would need to fill out my current options.

    1. A color you donā€™t already own might be the best choice for you.

  11. I love the mallard (what others call peacock) sweater- great color for you! That’s a decent price for a good cashmere sweater. Nordstrom Rack is one of my favorites, both the actual store and the online site. Thanks for the rec for shooties, I always have a hard time knowing what to wear on my feet in cool/cold weather as I’m really a sandal girl. Thanks for the informative post.

    1. I live in a fairly mild climate so shooties have been favorites for years. I love shopping Nordstrom Rack online. I havenā€™t been as lucky in person.

  12. Jennifer, you had me at ā€œCashmereā€ and also navy and burgundy, which has always been my go to color combo for my palate. Thank you for sharing the sheepskin color as a cool beige can be hard to find. I havenā€™t worn shooties, but will give them a try, as I need to move to a more supportive shoe. Your posts are always educational but this one had my name on it! ā€¦..next stopā€¦Nordstrom Rack!

    1. I agree, cool beige is harder to find. This is a great one.

  13. Love the shooties! But what do you do when it gets cold? Itā€™s 30 here this morning and while I love to look youthful and edgy sometimes, itā€™s cold with ankle jeans and no socksā€¦

    1. If itā€™s that cold, Iā€™d probably switch to a bootcut style and wear socks. Cold ankles are no fun.

  14. Burgundy cashmere with jeans and shooties are always a basic outfit for me. You look great and comfortable in today’s outfits. Love the colors.

  15. Cashmere, jeans and booties a favourite look for me! Cool, rich colours always!

  16. Navy with burgundy is my new favorite and what I wore this past week! You look extra sensational in todays pieces – the styling.
Also wearing black jeans with burgundy and feeling good with the burgundy close to my face right now!
Iā€™m going to look for a more flattering blush/bronzer today, however.

    1. Iā€™m loving these colors too šŸ™‚
