Elongated Moto Jacket and Floral Jeans

Spring has arrived in my neck of the woods and although the trees are all blooming, we still have lots of time before it really warms up. I have spring on the brain so decided to style some florals. Say what? Yup. I’m not a huge fan of florals on me, #understatment, so I decided to give it a shot with denim. For today’s look, I’m pairing an elongated moto jacket with a pair of floral jeans.

Most moto-type jackets are waist-length. I don’t mind when my tops show below a jacket, but many women find them hard to style so this longer version gives you more options. It’s a soft twill in a cool-toned sage color that seems to be everywhere this spring. It’s a pastel that’s not too sweet so it’s right up my alley. It also comes in pale, azalea pink in sizes regular and petite, 0-20.

The twill has a nice amount of stretch so I was able to size down to a 00 in regular, which I never wear, so it runs a bit large. You can see from this picture that my long arms need the regular over the petite. The asymmetrical zipper is one of those things I would seldom if ever zip up, but you could if you wanted and take advantage of the slimming effect that asymmetrical seams give.

I styled it with these floral girlfriend jeans which have more of a straight than skinny leg. The stretchy fabric is super comfy and also has a so slimming front panel to help smooth the tummy area. The floral pattern is painted on the right thigh and the bottom of the left leg so if your thighs are an area you’d rather not accentuate, beware this will draw more attention to them.

I’m wearing a regular 6 (0.5). I did try on the petite’s which were a full 4″ shorter and felt too short for my taste. Maybe when it’s warmer, but right now it just feels better to have my ankles covered. They have an unfinished hem so you could easily shorten them with a quick snip of the scissors or hem them if you’re more comfortable with that look. They’re also available in tall sizes 2-20.

I wear these ballet flats more often than not these days because they seem to coordinate with everything I’m wearing. Let’s hear it for buying shoes in your favorite color:). They are described as French-girl chic, I call them a classic. They’re available in 12 colors, sizes 3 – 14, narrow, medium, and wide! They have a comfy insole and a working drawstring that you can snug up or loosen to get the perfect fit.

*I thrilled last week when Margaux reached out to offer my readers 10% off their first purchase with the code AWSL10!

This 100% knit linen top has a polo collar which is a nice, stepped-up alternative to a plain tee. The 3/4 sleeves and breathable fabric will be very appreciated when the scorching weather rolls around…and we know it will! It comes in 8 colors, sizes 2-20, petite and regular. I thought I’d like this shirt in peony but the paler colors are not completely opaque so I passed and chose this olive. As it turns out, I like the way it coordinates with the sage jacket. I’m wearing a 4-6 regular and could have also worn the petite so it runs true to size.

I kept my jewelry simple with a pair of green amethyst studs and a single stone necklace. Sometimes less is more with an outfit and this is one of those times for me.

Do you wear tops that are longer than your jacket?

  1. Love your shoes. I ordered the same color and got the discount. Been admiring these for a long time! We’ll see how they fit.

    1. I hope you love them. They’re soft to begin with then mold like slippers to your feet after you wear them for a while.

You wear this outfit very well but given how well you have aged I think you could pull off a more tailored (slim fitting shirt and double breasted blazer) look. I especially like the jeans and shoes.

  3. I really like your hair cut. I like the motto jacket, I’m not sure about the painted jeans. I enjoy all your posts you give me ideas on using things in my own closet.

  4. Love your hair cut and styling.
I like the floral jeans, will look into getting a pair.
Not so sure about the jacket, will also need to try one on soon. Sure do like the total look on you. Thanks for putting out the options. The best to you

  5. Love everything you are styling here. Everything 💕. While I love the ballet flat look, I can’t find a pair I can walk in. The heel keeps slipping up and down, and or the middle flares out. Usually not enough support too. Sadly, I have 4 pair sitting in my closet that I never wear.

  6. I love the longer length jacket. I like moto jackets but the shorter lengths never seem to look quite right on me. Hard to find longer length ones. will try this one. Thanks for this post!

  7. Love your outfit. I purchased the same jeans, but I hemmed mine. I didn’t notice they were not hemmed when I purchased online. They felt too unfinished for me. Love the moto jacket. I paired mine with a sweater that I just finished knitting in tones of burgundy. Your hair is delightful.

    1. I’m so envious of your knitting. My hands just don’t want to cooperate these days. Hopefully, they will soon. Burgundy would be great with the painted tones

    2. I knit my own pullovers and tees as well!

      1. Awesome! I used to knit non-stop until my hands gave out

  8. I feel that you have an unique, authentic style and this featured outfit fits nicely in that category. I really like the color and longer length of the jacket. I did try a pair of crop pants with similar floral detail a couple years ago. I wore them several times and then passed over them when choosing my pants for the day. If I were to purchase any jeans with an unfinished hem, I would probably need to cuff them.
I can certainly see why you reach for those flats over and over! They really complete so many of your outfits.
Lastly, your hair totally compliments you in every way! Love that new cut and style!
We had heavy snow again last night so spring is struggling to show her colors here!

You are just SO cute! I also am in the spring frame of mind! I really love your look today. It is in touch with the “now” cold spring weather. Love the longer Moro jacket; I have a shorter soft white one. The floral jeans look smashing with that outfit as the other colors are subdued.

    1. Today is so cold I am bundled back in a cashmere sweater…but it is lilac-colored:)

  10. Cute cute outfit… love the casual look. I have a pair of Jeans, blue pinstripe with small navy blue flowers embroidered on the bottom with frayed hems. I have gotten so many compliments on them. Have a great week Jennifer

    1. Thanks, Dianne. Wishing you a fabulous week too.

  11. Love your hair! I have exactly same thin wispy hair and really enjoyed your blog about your hybrid hairstyle! I have tried over and over to explain to hairdressers we are not meant for a cookie cutter haircut! Looks much thicker and I am calling my person today!

Love the jacket, how would that look with dark denim? I am not a fan of wearing work or light denim. I do however love the flowers!!! Super cute. Love your blog!

    1. Thanks so much. Stylists have to customize our hair to fit each individual, I agree! I think it would work with dark denim if you wore dark shoes to anchor it and a deep colored top

  12. What’s not to love? I am impressed with the courage to go color. LOL I’m adding some floral this year too. I have striped pants but no floral. These jeans remind me of a pair I painted in the seventies. I had a white pair that I painted strawberries on in the same places. Wore them with my red dotted Swiss top. Now that was the good old days! You look smashing!

    1. You have brought back memories of the jeans I sewed appliques onto in the ’70s 🙂

  13. Sigh. Why can’t there be standard sizing in clothes?! (Especially WITHIN a brand) Right now, we can mostly shop online only, so this is quite a guessing game.

Love the moto jacket, and the colour is really fresh for spring. Not a fan of the floral jeans, though. I’m with you on florals. I find them hard to pull off, and am more comfortable in stripes or dots.

I do wear shirts longer than jackets or sweaters, but balance is really important. You can’t looking like the garment is wearing you!

  14. Karen Lee White says:

Great new haircut, so much peppier and younger looking.

    1. It feels peppier, thanks!

  15. Has anyone tried the Margaux Ballet Flats that has a NARROW foot? Wondering if you walk out of the shoe (that way it works if there is no narrow width)? I like the idea that the tie is a working part of the shoe but that may not solve the “walk out of the shoe” problem

    1. They are available in narrow, and one reader told me she got a very good fit with the narrow

  16. The jacket is adorable and the soft color is perfect for spring. Your haircut is perfect can you tell me if there are layers or all one length, I would like to try but need to explain to hairdresser. Thank you.

    1. I have layers on top. I’ve been examining to see how she cut them and they appear very blunt, about 4″ long, all around the top

  17. Love your whole outfit. I have a longer version of the jacket and I wish it was shorter like this one. You look wonderful!

  18. Jennifer, I must go try that elongated moto jacket to see if it looks good on me. It is super cute! I can’t tell you how many moto jackets I have tried to buy, only to be disappointed in the boxy, chest enhancing (which I do not need) look. This looser, longer version just may be the ticket! Love the colors too. Thank you!

  19. Rhoda Clark says:

Love the look! I am at the stage in my life where I have too much! So I am paring down where I can. I am trying the longer top with a shorter jacket, but my early training is in sharp contrast to that style, but I am trying. lol

  20. Love your new haircut; youthful!
