Embracing Black for Travel

Embracing Black for Travel

Happy Monday ladies. As you read this I will be on my flight to Japan or heading to the airport, depending on where you live. I intended to show you how I packed for this trip but life intervened. My grandson got very sick, my son got sick and my traveling partner (daughter) is sick.

I had so many things to get accomplished before I left that photographing my bag was the last thing I could do. Photos wouldn’t have helped either because five minutes before I left for the airport, I decided it was too heavy so took everything out and repacked the whole bag.

What I did notice is that most of my wardrobe is black. I packed a few colorful scarves and wraps, but all major pieces are black. That made packing and editing my outfits a snap. I did resemble a mortician while traveling yesterday so I slicked on some new red lipstick and rolled with that whole vibe;)

I’m not covered in lint, the mirror was covered with smush.

I hope to post much of what I am wearing on this trip, so just know that it all came out of a vintage, 18″ roller bag, plus a small handheld.

My whole family is slamming vitamin C, Zinc and Echinacea. I am armed with sanitizing wipes and using them on everything! I gave a pack of wipes to my daughter, but honestly, everyone needs protection from her cold. The irony is I had my flu shot in preparation for this trip!

Is it Murphy’s Law that you plan a trip and everyone gets sick? This feels like a nasty conspiracy but I am determined to have an amazing time and will bring you all along.

Get your flu shot ladies and while you’re at it, grab some sanitizing wipes.

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Just returned from traveling and a friend gave me the tip to take Airborne before and after to boost the immune system. So I took a couple. Chewables twice a day. Seems to have helped, as we had two very long flights and traveled on a bus with people who were sick and so far I am still okay after a week home. A good tip I think!
    Enjoy your trip Jennifer!

I missed getting Airborne before we left and of course, we can’t find it here. Next time I will remember.

I freeze over night on the planes going overseas. Must wear Columbia polar fleece jackets with zipped pockets to stash glasses, lip balm, hand cream etc. I agree totally with black as a basic, but it also has to be washable. I wear patterned tops for overnight flights, all the better to hide stains etc, because you can’t easily change for hours. A spare pair of panties in handbag/carryon, just in case. I once flew commando (thank heavens for my long johns) over the Atlantic.

Commando over the Atlantic! Way to go Anne!

I don’t wear black but I still have some in the closet. I decided to use it for travel and it was a fun experiment on my last trip, a one week road trip to Yellowstone. Black t shirt, hiking pants, fleece jacket all came out of the closet and put back to use. I combined it with my current autumn accent in a plum sweater jacket and plum timberland hiking boots. I’m not converted back to black but it all looked better than I thought and it was a fun return to some old black closet friends. ???? I hope everyone is feeling better soon.

Black and plum is a pretty combo! I am already bored with the black I brought but it is serving me well.

I pack black, as well. Black hides any stains and so is my travelling partner.
I’m so sorry to hear your daughter is not well. I hope she improves quickly, so you have a wonderful trip together. Sending healing thoughts your way.

Thanks Joanna, I am using up the hand sanitizer and she’s drinking tons of fluids.

My your family be well soon! It’s Murphy Law that catches us every time it seems.
I’m a big fan of black, it’s my “favorite” color it seems. I tease and say I’ll switch from black when they come up with a darker color.
Good luck on the the trip, safe travels. Looking forward to your great postings.

So sorry that you are starting off on a less than stellar note, but hope by the time you get there everyone will be on the mend. Black is the perfect travel wardrobe for me. Im glad to see you approve. Enjoy your trip – nothing beats making memories.

I understand how you feel, because my husband & I took a two week trip to Las Vegas for Christmas last year & got the flu. Whe got it first & have it to me. I came down with it on Xmas Eve. Basically, we spent the majority of our 2 week trip sick in our RV. It just happens sometimes even if you are really careful, and we always use sanitizer & get flu shots too! Fingers crossed it’s shortnlived & that you don’t get it too.

    • October 25, 2018 / 1:47 pm

I’m sorry that happened to you! It’s part of life but not a fun part. I’ve been sick while away in our trailer too and it was cramped to say the least. Our own beds are some much more soothing.
