Sunday in The Country and What I Wore

Fall weekends are some of my favorites. Our leaves may not be putting on the color show they do in New England, but pumpkin farms and farmers markets do a pretty good job of it here in California. We did some exploring in the country last weekend which I’m sharing today, along with my goofy thought processes.

Our first stop was a beautiful little nursery and gift shop filled with the most amusing things. I could spend hours in shops like this, much to the agony of Mr. AWSL. Sniffing hand salve at country shop

Their handmade rose salve smelled amazing and should have come home with me. Sadly, when the gal mentioned that they were out of the lavender salve I decided I had to have that one so I didn’t buy any, much to the delight of Mr. AWSL. In hindsight, which is always 20/20, I really want the rose one so I have to will go back.

I love these velvet pumpkins, but they’re so expensive! The crafter in me is thinking, “I could easily make these and dot them all over the mantle”. Before I get carried away, I remember that I aspire to be in permanent declutter mode, and these would just be one more thing to store after the season is over.pumkin planted with succulents

I spotted these clever pumpkins and my wheels started turning.”I can make this at home. It’s just a carved out pumpkin, filled with dirt and planted with succulents”. The truth is, I have a black thumb, and the only way this would work would be if I used silk plants.Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life at county fair

There are some funny things in the country that just demand a photo:)

Next up was the farmers market which was loaded with color and pumpkins.

I skipped the pumpkins this time and zeroed in on organic olives, smoked salmon, corn on the cob and homemade salsa. We both left carrying huge plastic bags.

Victoria Emerson’s bracelets and watch were the perfect touch of prettiness I needed for this outfit. She loves to inspire women to celebrate the joy in every day, and share their sparkle with the world.

Her newest collections are filed with fresh colors and pretty crystals. I’m obviously loving the rose gold which seems to go with everything this fall. Victoria Emerson is having a Boo (Ya) , it’s a flash sale right now.

Are you a fan of Sunday drives in the country?

Thanks for reading and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

A big thank you to Victoria Emerson for sponsoring this post and you, my lovely readers, for supporting the brands who work with A Well Styled Life.

  1. Autumn is my very favorite time of year, and it looks as though you have beautiful country markets to visit. I, too, would like to see how you got your hair up with those little clippies. Mine is about the same length and very fine, but I don’t think it would stay. You look beautiful, healthy, and happy!

    1. I will do a short video to show you. Be prepared, I put a ton of product in my hair to give it volume and grip.

  2. Envying ‘your’ Fall weather, Jennifer ! In comparison to yours, though our trees are brilliant in Fall foliage we are having lots of rain with temps in the mid and lower 50’s. Changing the subject as do have a question for you about the ‘wrap bracelets’. Are they fixed in sizing or can you wrap them around your wrist multiple times to accommodate the required fit? (Hope that makes sense and thank you.) Enjoyed your country tour. -Brenda-

    1. It does make sense. The end has several loops to put the button through so you can wrap it to fit. Mine go around 5 times, but just barely because I have thick wrists.

  3. Hi Jennifer, yes we love to go on Sunday drives to the foothills during this time of year…beautiful! I may have missed a post or two, but I’m curious if you are letting your hair go gray?

    1. Nope, I don’t have enough silver to let it go yet. I’m still adding high and low lights to add visual texture and bulk.

Let us see the back of your hair. I’d love to see how you put it up! My hair is very similar and I love to see how you style ir. Thanks

    1. We did not get a photo but I will next time. I have very thin, wispy hair so it’s a bit of a process.

      1. Suzanne Huffman says:

Oh my hair is just the same!… Fine thin and straight. I would love to see it. Thanks so much

      2. Yes, I’d love to see it also (and maybe a tutorial someday??). I have the same type of hair. In fact, just ordered a laser cap in hopes of a little help!!

  5. Jennifer, you have hooked me on victoria emerson wraps. I’ve made 2 orders and hoping to make more to complete my holiday shopping. Thanks!

    1. I’m so glad you like the! Her boho bracelets are my favorite because they are so easy to put on and take off.

  6. I love doing this in the Texas Hill Country this time of year! Great idea to make the pumpkin with the succulents…I think I could do that too! Cute post!

  7. Love your outfit! Can you tell me about your shoes?

    1. These are several years old from Munro. I LOVE them and will be sad when they wear out. These are very similar.

  8. Betty (SC) says:

OOoo! What an adorable cow in a hat! Love it! Jennifer, I love your pink twill jacket with the black top & jeans! I just saw my pink twill moto jacket in my closet! (still going through the autumn clothes – temps still bumping 80!). Those succulents in the pumpkin are inspired! I’ll have to go visit Victoria Emerson now! Enjoy your fall!

    1. I started carving one to plant today, but something went wrong so this may not be my kind of DIY:)

  9. Yes to weekend drives to the country, and we do stop at every farm or nursery to see what they have! It’s a lot if fun! And like you I usually leave with edibles (food and pastry )!
