The holidays are in full swing everywhere. With Thanksgiving in the rearview mirror, my focus has turned to Christmas and all the fun that entails. Dressing for holiday occasions can be a simple as an updated blouse and pants or all-out glam.
I chose a ruffled ivory blouse, black skirt, tights, and shoes and topped it all with a classic black coat.
I’m 5’4″, which is the tail end of most brands’ petite styling. I would never consider buying a Long Coat unless it was scaled for a petite woman because the sleeves and body would be too long, the armholes would be too deep and I would swim in it.
I accessorized with my vintage brooch, velvet scarf and my Grandmother’s faux Emerald and Diamond jewelry. I love the chance to wear the things she passed down to me and the holidays are a perfect time for them.
You are rocking this coat effortlessly. I love it!
Thanks! It’s easy to do in this coat.
Lovely coat and a great look, but I would like to have seen what you wore underneath as I’m sure you’d take the coat off for brunch! Perhaps that can be a post for another day though. I’ve been invited to be the guest speaker at a ladies Christmas luncheon on Dec. 11, so in addition to planning what I’ll say, I’m trying to decide what to wear!
Congratulations on your speaking invitation, Elaine! I will share in another post.
Jen, I love this long coat on you! Elegant and classic! You know I am a fan of brooches, live yours. You look lovely! Perfect coat for the upcoming cold days.
Jess xx
You have a fabulous collection of brooches! I love how they add pizazz.
I am 5 foot 1 and have an ample bust so I have to be very very careful with dressy outer wear…for my everyday walk I look like The Michelin man in my puffer jackets and coats but walking along the breezy seafront it is all about comfort!
I wore a vintage brooch this week to my bridge game…
Using accessories means I do not need to invest in a lot of holiday clothing..
I would wear a puffer coat for your beautiful walks too! You live in such a beautiful spot. I agree, accessories are the best way to stretch our wardrobe:)
Beautiful look, Jennifer! I love the jewelry.
Thanks, Susan!
That’s a great coat, Jennifer! I love the scarf & brooch you added – you are ready for the holiday season!
Thanks, Andrea. It really is a very versatile coat. Accessories can have a huge impact on classic basics!
This is gorgeous, Jennifer. Amazing coat and the way you styled it is stunning…perfect for a special event! I love this coat.
You would love this coat, Pam. The Misses length would be perfect on you!
I’m 5’2″ and found a wonderful wool 3/4 length coat at Nordstrom a few years ago. I’m also plus size, and plus petite garments are a rare find. The coat was a regular plus size. and kept getting one star reviews online because the sleeves were too short. (They were bracelet length, but advertised as long. I was able to buy it on end of season clearance and wear it without alterations.
That’s a real find for you! Bravo. Petite in plus size is a large part of our demographic. More brands need to realize that and fill the need. I can frequently wear cropped pants that are full length on me. One benefit of being petite 🙂
You look so beautiful and classy. Thanks for posting this. I am looking for ideas for our company Christmas party but I’m 66 years old and 5’3″. Sometimes it’s hard to find things that doesn’t look like I am trying to be a lot younger.
That is a problem some petite ladies have, Dianne. Look for soft neutrals in unfussy shapes. The better the quality the classier the item will look.
Love your shoes! They look comfortable and versatile for skirt or pants. Which brand are these? Thanks!
Hi Cheryl! They are these Munro booties, I bought several months ago at Nordstrom. They do have an open toe but work for CA winters so long as it’s not raining:) Super comfy. This closed toe version is on my wish list for when it does start raining.
